Some Home Truths for Tom Jones and previous Penyffordd Community Cllrs

Below is a comment that requires to come to the top. It needs to be read by cllrs before every council meeting. I take on board the criticisms of myself with which I agree. I am indebted to the commenter for his/her elucidation.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have to say, as a relative newcomer to the village (I moved to Penyffordd in 1997) I was genuinely not aware of the history and accomplishments of Mr Tom Jones.

He has clearly had an influence at many levels

But without wishing to sound sarcastic, it's quite surprising that having had someone with such influence at district, county and national levels, that facilities in Penymynydd and Penyffordd have been allowed to lapse to such a low level.

We have no doctors, few shops and three schools that are pretty much at capacity, and yet further developments are planned, to put yet more strain on the existing facilities with little or no benefit to the existing residents.

If Mr Jones has had such influence over the years how come the village has "lagged" those in the surrounding areas?

Even simple things, like the policing of the restricted section of Penymynydd Rd is sporadic and ill-enforced?

This has been on-going for the last thirty years.....the influence is there but not used to "our" advantage.

I'm not saying that "new" is necessarily good, but based on what I can see with my eyes, surely we can improve on what has gone before?

And just to provide balance, I should mention that I have followed this blog for a while.

Whilst I wouldn't agree with Colin's methods, at least he has the conviction in what he believes in, even if I don't necessarily agree with his method of "delivery".

If the current community council members had the same level of "passion" for their community, then perhaps the facilities within our community would be on-par with those close by.

  1. I have half an idea the lapse in facilities was what drove David Williams to stand as a county cllr in 2008.

    1. My dear Colin Hughes, I feel so sorry for you, and your wife, why do you keep digging when you are in a hole, and the hole is getting deeper all the timeWhy did you have to drag your wife into all of this, by making reference to an alleged midemeanor of years ago. This only causes people to enquire more deeply to ferret out the truth, I think it is most unfair of you, this is incensing many women. What are you looking for? is it sympathy? By all accounts your wife is a nice lady and does not deserve this treatment.

    2. The schools are definitely not at capacity!

We have not a great deal of shops agreed! However we used to have them but they all went out of business due to the lack of it. Whose fault is that? Maybe the fact that we have retail parks so close?
We used to have a fabulous carnival which ran for a week!! Whats happened? Lack of support! I suppose this is all the commmunity Councils fault??
      Whats happened to community spirit?

What was the society you belong to Colin? the one the cc wouldnt give you a grant for?

Why can't the village have a blog that is useful which would bring this lovely place together instead of having one which is attempting to be political and bullying!

      Watch out for the cuckoo!!

    3. Why has this all got so personal? Surely this is no way to behave?

    4. I see nothing wrong in healthy debate. Tom Jones has run the village for years. Ratepayers have a right to debate. Those who voted for David Williams at the last election voted for change.

The commenter makes valid points. Dad's Army have been found out.

  3. It's just as well the schools are not at capacity, as with the additional developments planned, they will soon be!

As the original commenter, my comments were not intended to be political, but a recognitIon that perhaps the village had not used it's most valuable asset wisely enough to its own advantage, something other local communities clearly have.

  5. Think would be fair to say the schools need the numbers! Kids are travelling far and wide to use the schools in our community. I imagine the planners would have taken education into account before making decisions on how many houses to pass etc???
If people dont think we have the facilities then surely the houses won't sell? However they do!! To buy a house in Penyffordd it is more expensive than to do so in some of the surrounding communities? Can you explain this?

Will no longer be commenting on any individual attacks as it is totally unjust and unfair!

  6. To The Man Who Claims To have Vision
Please tell us what your vision for the Penyffordd Community is!

Do You wish to close Chester road to all traffic?
Do You wish to support Grants for the Wine circle(Drinking Club)and expect other residents to pay 100% out of their pockets for you and your friends?
Because I want Cllr C Bithell and Cllr Tom jones there to stop you! You Stupid boy!!!

  7. Does Mr Colin Hughes realise that when the County Council spends money they get approx. 80% from the Welsh Government
When the Community Council spends money every penny comes out of Local People in the Penyffordd Community!
So how is he going to persuade the other 9 Cllrs to expend huge sums? (Oh! You Silly Boy!!!!)
Is it irrisponsible to raise Peoples expectations unrealistically?
