Many thanks for the photos and Intell

Gateway to the 21 st Century

Perhaps I should be careful what I say but.....don't want to upset them.

BT contractors have recently connected Penyffordd Junior School with Fibre.
Or should I say dug trenches, run cable through to the Clock Tower and beyond.

One of my informants informs me BT will be connecting households in the Penymynydd Rd area to the fibre network.

There is currently  a little man working (update 3 men) in a box up Penymynydd Rd.

This should mean much faster internet and perhaps lower bills.

One presumes when it is all wired up we will be told.

We are however dealing with a public monopoly utility......................

Nothing happening in Penyffordd

In the Sunday Times Style section which is the lowest of the low they had Jeremy Clarke on the back page. Discussing his prostate cancer.
If you buy an ST you can read him

Here's his articles. Not behind the ST pay wall though.

http://www.spectator.co.uk/author/jeremy-clarke/

The Spectator  (and Telegraph) let you read so much and the stop you and ask for money.
Delete their cookies and you can start again

If you want to help them click on a few adverts on their site.

postscript: Since I'm on the second page on google with regards this page perhaps I should explain myself. The ST Style section I think is facile pretentious rubbish. Do people actually use the language that's printed there?

Or this crap in The Telegraph

Hope you stay well Jeremy. Hope you're still doing The Speccy.

The Liverpool Daily Post - The End

The above paper has closed today.

This is sad but a reflection of current and continuing harsh conditions being experienced by Main Stream Media. ( and every bugger else in the real world )

Penyffordd District continues to make vast profits.

Chester Rd continued flooding

Penymynydd Rd used to have a ditch running down the side next to the Institute. It then runs under the road, down to the stream next to the footpath.

This was then put underground with pipe.

Every time it rains hard the man holes lift spewing many 100's of gallons on to Chester Rd and into neighbouring properties.

Due to pressure from residents Dwr Cymru are on the case. Apparently they are going to put CCTV down the tubes. They do however have their suspicions.

Are Chester Rd residents who suffer the prospect of flooding with every deluge to have sanctuary?

What has Penyffordd gained?

Following on from the person commenting about fracking. It gets me to thinking.

Various individuals have gained greatly from developments within the village. We have Wellhouse, White Lion, Coed y Graig, Turkey Farm Phase 1 and 2 (Wimpey).

These areas have only been allowed to be developed because we live here, that's us residents of Penyffordd district.

What have we gained?

106 agreements to allow for education by ratepayers on the new housing I think are pants.
They will be paying rates for education anyway, they are a con.

So what have we really gained?

Do we have a right to gain anything?

I'll start it off in comments.

Fracking for Flintshire

Flintshire has underneath it vast mineral resources. Coal, limestone, etc.

The UK Gov have already / are going to issue licences to explore for gas and oil that can be extracted by fracking.

link http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/government-to-make-40-per-cent-of-britain-available-for-fracking-9011504.html

UK Gov are currently between a rock and a hard place over energy security due to sitting on their hands for the last 20 years.

Does this offer a way out?

Environmental concerns seem not to be an issue with those in power.

Penyffordd district in the 1800's was a very dirty place indeed with the extraction of oil from coal. There were numerous extraction plants between here and Mold.

The River Alyn would have been black.

Will fracking come to Penyffordd?

Penyffordd Medical News

You may wonder why your doctor is pushing statins. Wonder no further.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2013/dec/17/glaxosmithkline-stop-paying-doctors-promote-drugs

One wonders what will be done in its place.

ps. I know an old lady who thought she was going to die. I suggested she see her doctor over the tablets she was taking. Yes, you guessed it, statins !

Stopped the statins, the awful bodily feelings went away.

It's time for Big Pharma not to able to influence doctors or government or to torture millions of creatures. The torturing of course a mandate by government.

A Leader who leads by example

This week the jokers (MP's) who led us into great debt (2008 and continuing ad infinitum) are demanding an extra £10k a year. We pay them to lead instead they acted like sheep.

Anyone who has any savings has paid greatly for our MP's folly.

Here's a man of substance.

Nigel Jones' family turn on the Xmas Lights

Cllr Colin Bithell, chairman of the Penyffordd Community Council, said it was absolutely perfect to have Mr Jones’ family light up one of the new trees.

“They were Nigel’s idea,” he said. “The family were overjoyed to do it.”

Penyffordd will have three trees with the main one under the village’s Millennium clock.

Cllr Bithell said Mr Jones had suggested a tree would act as a central focal point for people to gather around and sing carols.

He said his friend had also been keen to help the council find ways of saving money.

“The lights were costing £4,000 each year, which was a lot for a small community,” added Cllr Bithell. “We thought it was a wonderful idea.

“We’re going to have three trees with this one in the middle of the village, under the clock – somewhere all the villagers can meet.”

Mr Jones’ daughters, Anna and Claire, son Rhys and grandson Cayo Jones attended the ceremony to switch on the lights.

Lorry crash Penyffordd

LORRY CRASH: A lorry has banged into a Flintshire railway bridge and trains have been stopped for safety reasons. The incident happened on the A5104 in Penyffordd.
More will appear in The Daily Post ( to the right )

The bridge is fairly easy to miss. It's on a straight bit.
The road to Pontblyddyn one of the most dangerous in Flintshire.

The Lowlands

have been having a bad time.

http://www.chesterchronicle.co.uk/news/chester-cheshire-news/boat-sinks-river-dee-during-6378916

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/floods-your-photos-around-north-6379053

The attractions of Penyffordd were that it was a small Welsh village, it was well up above sea level and the mother in law could not get here on the bus!

When I were a lad in Scroft in 62 I had to wear my wellies to walk up the street. This of course was due to global warming.

When they canalised the River Dee they made it so water could not reach Sandycroft. Perhaps some one had left the water defenses up so that the river flowed back up the ditch.

I also walked on the River Dee in 1962. This not through Sainthood but due to the fact that the ice was a foot thick. I'm named after my dad's brother who drowned in Chester Canal in the blackout during the war.

The gateman at Graessers was under instruction to ring dad if I was seen heading towards the river.
The ditch that ran parallel to the road a perfect hidden route.

The threat of corporal punishment could not cancel the lure of the river.
It was also possible due to sandbanks to wade the river to the other side at Sealand.

Been there, got the tee shirt, the folly of youth.

An email from one of my councillors

Good morning!

I really don't want to disturb you about this but I had no one else to turn to. I'm in Ukraine to see my cousin who lives here. she's critically ill and needs family support. She is diagnosed with (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) - a type of Blood Cancer in 2005 and she had been undergoing treatment since. The chemotherapy treatment was going fine until last week when the doctor noticed that the disease has relapsed and the only way she can survive is by undergoing a BMT (Bone Marrow Transplantation). My sister whose marrow matched she has agreed to be the donor and she will be undergoing the transplant soon at the Salvator Mundi International Hospital here in Kharkov, The estimate for the transplant is £6,000 GBP I have already spent approx. £3,500 GBP towards her treatment. Since the amount is huge, I request you to lend out a helping hand and support me with a loan of £2,500 GBP Since I don't know your financial status at the moment, any kind of help whatsoever will be deeply appreciated. Your help and support will give her a chance to live a normal life once again. There is nothing called a small help when the heart giving it is big. Any amount will be accepted with gratitude and paid back after the surgery. Please let me know how much you can loan me so that i can provide you with the details to get the money to me and, I will pay back as soon as I return.

Regards

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name and email edited out. Not sure how these work. This is the second cllr this year that has sent me one of these. The second cllr in question had to change email address.
Not sure if just the email name is borrowed or they take over the email account. Hope I don't find out the hard way...............

Faster Internet for Penymynydd Rd?

The men who dig the road up have been hard at it today. I thought they were going to stop the large amounts of water that lift the BT communication manholes, 1000's of gallons spew out onto the road whose drains cannot deal with the volume.

Nothing to do with that.

Apparently its so Ysgol Penyffordd can have faster internet

I find BT's roll out of faster internet annoying. They still act as a public monopoly.

It's outside the house yet we can't have it.

It's available in various parts of the village.

Best you register an interest if want faster internet

Not sure if this link works for you

JFK Assassination - The view from Penyffordd

This pre Twitter, Facebook and Blogger. Communication was sooooooooo difficult then.

Mrs Parkins, of Egerton Street, Chester, was living in Penyffordd, Flintshire, at the time of the shocking event.

An accident waiting to happen

A young man in a small black car comes hammering up Penymynydd Rd, pushing cars in front of him exaggerated weaving in and around parked cars.

He will either run a child over or cause someone else to.

His profession? Penyffordd primary school teacher.

Someone needs to have a word with the headmaster or governors

This young man is an idiot, he needs stopping now.

Good news on Immigration?

http://www.politics.co.uk/news/2013/11/27/at-the-eleventh-hour-cameron-buckles-on-bulgarian-immigratio

We shall see.

I should point I have no issue with immigrants who come here to work.
They do the work and the long hours that a lot who live here find unacceptable.

It's a little known fact that Polish people keep cleaner houses than UK people.

That Mark Tami is a very nice man

Mr Tami did not support a major airport at Broughton, arguing: “It is in a very built-up area, and we have two perfectly good airports at Manchester and Liverpool. We do not need to expand any service at Broughton; we need to ensure it is easier to get to and from the airports at Manchester and Liverpool.”

Penyffordd? We've been stuffed.

Doomed forever to travelling outside the village to visit a doctor.
Many having to get the bus.
I had to do three visits last time to get a prescription from my Buckley doctors. The practice manager took exception to me making a formal complaint over her head.

Fancy doing three trips to Buckley on a bus to get a prescription?
There back, there back, there back.

If you want expert advice Penyffordd Chemist the only place to go.

May I suggest some of our councillors have sat on their hands for the last 30 years. We've had doctors surgeries, a medical centre but they have been allowed to atrophy.

Perhaps the village would have been better served with a more eclectic councillor committee. It's the residents fault really for rubber stamping the same old tired faces.

Penyffordd residents can now suffer at their own leisure. Architects of their own foolishness.

Dobshill Ambulance Station too far from major population?

There's a form of mathematics that can be used to find the optimum position for a depot within a given irregular area. I used it to base an argument on why the edge of Flintshire should not be the place for a giant dumping ground for North Wales. St George's near Rhyl I found to be the optimum place for North Wales.

If Flintshire is about 30 miles long and the ambulance depot is 3 miles from one edge one might reasonably ascertain that Dobshill is not the optimum place for a centre.

Having watched my mother in law die waiting for an ambulance I have first hand experience.
It was tragic Keystone Cops.

I am usually against tables. The current farce of Police Crime Statistics is good example. All our politician's fault.

If we have data of when emergency call was taken against arrival of ambulance we could all see.
The Ambulance Services blaming volume. I think a poor excuse.

Some crap corporate speak from Welsh Ambulance Services. It should be banned.

Any regular readers will remember I got bit by a ferret last week. Got bit on my thumb in two places that made gripping stuff for 4 days a bit of a job. According to its owner they can "lock on".
Not an inviting prospect at all.

Parking News

Since the changeover for parking violations from North Wales Police to Flintshire County Council in October over 50 individuals have received fines.
To be honest NWP were not interested in parking violations for various reasons. No need to go into that here lol.

Off we go.

Members sharing a light moment beforehand.

Those in attendance included Tony and Decima Hodge, John Martin, Cllrs David Williams, Cindy Hinds and Edwina Davies.

The procession included former armed forces personnel, Penyffordd Scouts, Cubs and Brownies.

The names of those who fell reside on the walls of the Penyffordd Memorial Institute.

I spy with my little eye something beginning with F

In Captivity

This morning I was looking for something in the shed when I heard this rustle. Sometimes I get blackbirds in but this sounded bigger. Low and behold!

What shall I do? Propagator looked handy so I dumped it inside and taped lid on with gaffer tape. There is a way to pick ferrets up, a way I'm not familiar with.... Cue exit to kitchen with blood stained hand. I had gloves on but this creature greatly resents
being picked up went straight through gloves..

Cue 99% isopropyl alcohol spray.....

They need water but NOT cheese , dogfood, catfood or sugery food.
What's left you may ask?

Cue teatime, gratefully returned to owner nearby.
The other escapee was caught earlier also after biting someone......

Fact of the Day - Male ferrets if not neutered or allowed to have
sex will die.

Klaus and his mate Elwyn on the case.
Some good information on footpaths and bridle ways.
On what to do if you use a footpath that gets blocked.

Where I walk there are a few paths that appear on Ordinance Survey but not on the FCC Definitive Footpath Map. What do you do if you are the only one who walks them? If you are the only one who knows about them. Some farmers just block them off.

Flash Flood

Just had a gigantic shower. Never seen anything like it ever.
Lots of water coming down Penymynydd Rd. Roof systems couldn't deal with levels of downpour.

Of course it comes straight down the hill and straight across the road into gardens and houses that are below the level of the road.

In my opinion no provision can be made to prevent this happening here.
The amount of water was astounding.
Lots of people out with cameras.....

Also hit Llangollen, A5, Brymbo, Caergwrle.
Delays are being experienced on roads.
NWP are on the case.

I think cheeky monkeys.

Does this now mean that the post where the road splits between Hawarden Rd and Chester Rd can be used by The Millstone and Penyffordd British Legion to advertise events?

Parking News and Quiz

Flintshire County Council have now taken over responsibility for proper parking. So if you park on yellows and paths you had better watch out. Someone in Hawarden has been sorted. FCC have the usual system where you pay a reduced fine if you pay quickly.

The "someone" in Hawarden however is not happy. His defence of " I've always parked there!" will not stand as a good defence when he contests it at the magistrates court.

Policing at the speed of light

North Wales Police are to have a new North Eastern Headquarters at Llay near the Sharps. That means Penyffordd is 5 minutes down the road.

A Village Common

Penyffordd is lacking community spaces including a central full size football field in my opinion. There is a large field next to the old signal box that is central, a good size, it has a stream running through the middle and has had little use over the years. In fact it is used as an unofficial village common.

With the recent explosion in village housing perhaps a good time to try to purchase this field for the future community. Those who have benefited by being able to sell their grazing fields as accommodation land should perhaps leave a lasting legacy for the village. Without the village here they would not have been able to make large profits from their land......

I should point out to those that do not know that Penyffordd was supposed to benefit from 106 agreements with the housing developers. However Castell Alun school have pinched most of the money and are baulking at allowing all Penyffordd district children access to their school.

Allotment News Part 44

Penyffordd Community Council meeting is this coming Wednesday. Not too many items on the agenda.

One item is Cllr David Williams' attempt to form a second set of allotments in the village.
This has been ongoing for two years. What's gone on you really couldn't make up.
postcript: people changing minds etc.

PACA is a fund raising group who run the original allotment  that was gifted by a fine individual.

After reading the council agenda I was going in the direction of the planned second allotment so I went for a nose.

What is the progress? A field full of hay! Not an allotment in sight.

I'll report back after minutes have been ratified in a months time. Democracy at the speed of light.

Is the Penyffordd Community Council website showing council minutes and agenda yet?
Just had a peek, still nothing happening.
http://penyfforddareacc.com/news-events/meeting-minutes/87-minutes-agendas.html

ps. I have to admit to not paying attention to PCC meetings these last few months so there may be developments I'm not aware of. I'm sure all will be revealed in the fullness of time.

The Energy Debate

It's all getting beyond a joke. I have the ability to lower my energy bill, a lot haven't.

Energy costs affect many services and most products for sale. Our elected government ( small g) seem happy to let the energy cartel extract the urine.

I've sent an email just to my elected MP Mark Tami telling him his boss Ed Miliband has done the right thing raising the stakes on this issue.

I had an email reply within 2 minutes from Mark thanking me for my comment.

Democracy at the speed of light.

As opposed to Penyffordd.................

Saying that Cllr Cindy Hinds is prompt with replies.

Complaining about Community Councils

I tend to think things go up in a stepped manner. Councillors, community council, County Hall, Welsh Assembly Government and finally EU.

I've been in contact with FCC and it seems some things do not step up gradually.

FCC do not do Community Councils.

If you live in Flintshire and perhaps other Welsh Counties and you have a gripe against a community council over vindictivness or whatever you need to contact The Big "O".
Otherwise known as The Ombudsman.

Did I say that !

I've fired some missives off to the local papers today about a proposed wind turbine that cannot be seen from Penyffordd.

Hope Mountain is in the way.

Also had a reporter on the phone.

Best course of action is let the ideas flow, write them down. Condense them into keywords.

I've been lazy today didn't write anything down so all my good stuff got left on the table.

Perhaps just as well.

Chester Rd Traffic Survey

Highway council man trying to put down wires without getting run over. It would be interesting to see before and after traffic calming data.  This of course is frowned upon by Highways.

It's like trying to get data out of the NSA......

Windscreen News

I use my car windscreen as an environmental indicator. It's been clean since the new build kiln.
The question is what do I have on my car windscreen?

1. Cement dust
2. Greenfly sticky stuff
3. Saharan sand.

I reckon its No 1. That's alleged of course without a chemistry analysis.

Energy to rise again - Time for Revolution

http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/sep/20/energy-firms-increase-prices

What this country needs is a revolution.

Energy affects the price of many things.

Lots of people going to have to choose whether to put central heating on or stay cold.
Problem being with a revolution is that we have no one who will side with the people.

Our politicians are all in Big Business pockets.

Flintshire County Council - 20 mph Zones at Schools

The other morning the school buses could not get up Penymynydd Rd due to parked vehicles.
Flintshire County Council will be taking over illegal parking shortly.

The WAG and FCC are to be congratulated over the following developments.

Chaos on the A55 yesterday morning

Perhaps a good reason for looking at live Daily Post news before you go out and whilst you're out. I don't do Facebook and Twitter, I presume however you can get alerts.
Better than being in a one and a half hour queue.

Did a two hour queue Wrexham to Chester once, not pretty.

postscript: I think you can get NWP and Flintshire Leader alerts on Facebook / Twitter too.

Penyffordd schoolboy speaks of relief after horrifying accident

Link http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/126402/penyffordd-schoolboy-speaks-of-relief-after-horrifying-accident.aspx

Main roads and children on bikes don't mix. They are a nightmare for drivers.

Neither do children on bikes on paths. You can get seriously injured outside my house stepping onto the path without looking in both directions. Speeds of 20 mph plus are reached outside my gate

I'm of the opinion that riding a bike safely for your own sake and others is not part of any school training these days

It will be interesting to see whose fault it was. Will NWP publish their findings?

Probably long drawn out over insurance claims.

In the papers today

It's been a funny year. The latest surprise is that I agree with Roberta Owen's letter in The Chronicle about weapons of mass destruction. Roberta usually writes rubbish about windmills.

Here's the Russian President telling it like it is about Syria and how USA need to stop killing people.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2013-09-11/vladimir-putin-addresses-america-nyt-op-ed-calls-caution-syria

Also in The Chronicle we have Mark Tami MP and David Hanson MP posing in pinnies handing out food parcels.

Brass neck are the words that come to mind gentlemen

These two were willing lieutenants for Gordon Brown MP architect of very high borrowing and "light touch" regulation where city people lined their pockets with large amounts of money and left us the tax payer to pick up the enormous ongoing bill.

Gordon Brown should be in The Tower for what he did to this country.

Never mind Mark and David, the sheep are too busy working to pay increasing bills  and too stupid to see what's really happened.

Tories would have done the same.

We're being ripped off over borrowing money, energy bills, petrol.
Buying a house has become a bad joke for many, again due to Gordon Brown MP.

Take no notice of any green shoots of recovery you read about in the papers. There is no confidence, little money available from lending institutions. UK is going through a large change that includes the decimation of high streets. I can't really put that totally down to Gordon, more to do with the Internet.

postscript. Forget Gordon  helped in a large way to f up the private pension system

Wrexham Council to broadcast meetings on the Internet

This is a bold step forward.

Link http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/126357/go-ahead-to-broadcast-wrexham-council-s-meetings-on-the-internet.aspx

This will mean you will able to listen in real time as opposed to 1 month behind with regards Penyffordd Community Council.

What did you say? You could always attend the meetings !

To Malpas to look at the big boy's toys

A good afternoon at the Yesteryear Rally

http://www.malpas-yesteryear-rally.co.uk/pictures.htm

Lots of tractors, motor vehicles, steam engines.
Chainsaws, coal, steam, Romany caravans, wood cutting.

A bit of rain.

Then to Larry's at The Bridge, Pontblyddyn for a spot of tea.

Fancy That

Someone walked into a shop in Penyffordd dressed for work today including their work badge.
Problem being they thought it was Monday..............

Penyffordd & Penymynydd Parent & Toddler Group

Below copied from their site.

The first session of the new school year will be this week on Tuesday. Come and join us, whether you are a regular, an old friend who hasn't been for a while, or a new mum/ parent.

We begin at 9.15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I'm looking forward to seeing how Jay (nearly 10 months) will enjoy the toys this week - he hasn't been for nearly two months and has come on so much - still not walking but everything else... walking around the house with chairs/ his trolley so he will be able to move much more in the hall. He also enjoys big spaces...

Looking forward to seeing lots of other children too - Jay loves watching the older ones playing and we also love seeing younger babies!
