Speeding

A week last Sunday I went to Northampton. I haven't been down the M6 for some years. The traffic was awful around Birmingham. A sign to me that there are too may people living in this country. The traffic horrendous.

There are now overhead gantry affairs every quarter mile around Birmingham with a speeding camera sign on them.

You ignore the speed limit at these gantries at your peril. On the other side of the gantry are a row of cameras to sense your speed. I was amazed at the number of drivers who were ignoring the speed limit. I thought they must know something I did not know. ie cameras were switch off. Silly me!

It would appear the many drivers I saw breaking speed limits will have been booked. The Treasury must be raking in money by the million.
Speed Awareness Course companies must be doing very well indeed.

An article in the ST were branding them stealth cameras. I thought this a bit silly as the speed camera sign was two foot square and reflective white. They also had a list of the top speeds for various cameras. 135, 140mph, etc.

Doing 50mph through road works with no road work being done was purgatory.

Penyffordd Lad aims for Parliament

Daily Post quote "Alasdair Ibbotson, of Penyffordd, is a politics student at Stirling University and is the youngest candidate on the ballot paper in Flintshire."

Full story here.

I thought the small series on Parliament currently happening on BBC2 interesting.

Wrexham Prison Survey

Glyndwr University are under taking a survey on the effects of the Wrexham Prison now being built.
Would have been nice for the WAG to carry out a survey before the decision to build the prison was made.

It was always a done deal. Democracy bypassed by Cardiff.

All those local Wrexham Borough Council members and local AM's, MP's who sat on their hands knowing this was going through should be voted against come the next elections in my view.

Make your views known.
The survey is anonymous excepting GCHQ having a look of course.
The survey in my opinion fair, you can even make comments to some sections.
It's a short survey.

Work on Penyffordd Medical Centre has started.

Ah! you think where is it?
It's in Hope on the main road on the left opposite the Indian Restaurant.

You may ask why does Penyffordd not have a medical centre?
An interesting question.

Looks like we missed the boat on this one.
To be fair to our elected representatives current and past, Betsi Cadwallader seem to be a law unto themselves.

There's always the Penyffordd Pharmacy..................
Or Wrexham Maelor A&E out of hours..............if you are particularly ill.

I should point out to those new in the village that our surgeries are in Broughton, Buckley and Hope.

Pro active policing in Penyffordd

A letter pops through the door from PC Hazel Goss MBE who is a Crime Prevention Officer at County Hall, Mold.
Hazel tells me there is increased crime involving the theft of motorcycles throughout Flintshire and Wrexham.

My brother's son who lives in London parked his motorbike behind my car on a few occasions last week. We were perhaps being a little lazy and should have made sure the bike was in front of the car and not behind in view from the main road.

It was wheel locked and alarmed, perhaps this isn't enough to stop theft.

Many thanks NWP for the heads up.

Telecommunications 4G

According to a twitterer on Wrexham.com 4G is available in the Penyffordd area by EE.

We only use O2 for mobile as its the only one that works in our house. Having no mobile signal in the house a particular pain.
