Betty Blanket

I buy and sell books and today came across a book about Caergwrle by John Trematick. John dedicates a whole page to one of Penyffordd's characters. We knew her as Betty Blanket as she would walk around the village draped in a blanket. Betty slept rough. She rubbed coal dust over her face. I once asked Lisa to make her some soup. Betty told her to F off !
I'm not exactly sure of the rules but I am told that as long as Betty did't take food off people the authorities could not legally hold her.

Tony Fish who had the chip shop next door reckoned she had an amazing constitution. Any one who can keep fish and chips down after they had been in the bin outside the chip shop for a couple of weeks had to have a strong stomach he would say. lol.

Didn't know she carried an iron bar around for protection though !

Here's John Trematick's take on the lady ! Click on image to enlarge.

Here today gone tomorrow

I was talking to a neighbour on Monday. He seemed right as rain, happy.
We talked at length about tomatoes. He said he always started them off on St Valentines Day.

Yesterday I am told he collapsed at the Penyffordd Bowling Green

I was told this morning that Eric Davies of Chester Rd has died.

Ordering Stuff off the Net

I'm an inveterate order clicker on Ebay and Amazon. ( so are our customers ) We've ordered a computer box for someone. She's got this mate whose talking about replacing motherboards etc. This is on an 8 year old computer which is very silly.
Hopefully open box, connect Dell computer to mouse, keyboard and net. Off we go with reasonably new technology loaded with a kosher copy of windows 7.

Recently had a silly experience with City Link. The bottom line is we were supposed to wait in for up to 10 hours for item to be delivered. Their nearest base is M56 Warrington. Can we pick it up?Photographic personal evidence required which we haven't currently got.
It was all "no can do"

As opposed to DPD.  Email this morning saying your parcel will be delivered between 9.30 and 10.30 am.

City Link have recently been taken over by a new company. And rightly so !

Monkey Business - They're Watching You

A good article in the Guardian this morning.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2013/jun/21/nsa-surveillance-metadata-content-obama

The comments well worth a view.

If you live in Penyffordd (CH4) you can write to representatives here

http://www.writetothem.com/who?pc=ch40ls

It is suggested in comments you contact MEP's as apparently the EU are up for doing something about this.

I say apparently, we shall see.

Sign of the Times - Golf Clubs

I play golf. There was a time 20 years ago when the likes of Wrexham had an 8 year waiting list to become a member and that was if you could get on it!

Things however have changed.

I'm told Old Padeswood  G C is up for sale.
Northop Golf Club was up for sale in last Friday's Chronicle.

My club has asked members for loans last year.
This year everybody had to pay extra to their normal subscription.

Golf clubs and many other types of clubs in Flintshire are struggling.

Dennis the Menace in The Leader

Local Dennis Parry (a former council leader) the original whistle blower on child abuse in N Wales is still not happy about the current re investigation.

Read  The Leader

Tom not happy at being side lined

At 86 years old Tom its time you packed up.

Penyffordd residents are telling you so. Can you not see this?

Cllr Colin Bithell and other cllrs see sense on the issue.

The nuts and bolts (detail) are in The Leader.

I should point out that Cllr Tom Jones OBE ( aged 86 and half ) was head school governor at Penyffordd Junior School before the amalgamation was announced.

Last time I looked Tom was also a governor at Castell Alun at Hope our school for over 11's

The future of our town centres

I have a lot of time for the former Wickes boss Bill Grimsey. There is talk  at the moment about reviving our towns. Bill tells it as it is.

The Airbus A350 makes its maiden flight

The wings are manufactured at Broughton in the newly constructed facility.

The wings are constructed  mostly out of carbon composites instead of aluminium alloys.

This makes for lighter aircraft and so less fuel is used.

Orders are already in excess of 600. This is good news for Penyffordd employment.
