My letter not in The Chronicle

Last Saturday I wrote a letter to the Chronicle copy to Carl Sargeant Local Government Minister about the schlerotic nature of local democracy. I received an email Sunday morning and then asked the Chronicle not to print. It was possibly too near the truth. Mind you there's still a few letter pages to go before the election.........

  1. I and my husband are fairly new residents in the Penyffordd/Penymynydd area, and we are wondering what we have moved into, we came from Merseyside and hoped for better things i.e. less nasty bickering etc. why are you trying to lower the reputation of this community? All our neighbours are talking about your blog, you seem to be alienating so many nice people, we can not understand why you are doing all this!

    1. Thank you for joining in the debate. It's not about nasty bickering. It's about village politics. There are those of us who feel Penyffordd should be better run. There are those who think our village leader Tom Jones is doing a wonderful job. Penyfford is a good place to live.

It needs however to stop being a major short cut. We need better youth and health facilities.

Tom's fell asleep at the wheel. No need to worry though. He's in charge for the next 4 years thanks to his election strategy that stops all new comers dead.

    4. The community council manage the village along with county councillors. There are many who are not happy with Tom Jones and Colin Bithell.

    8. Colin, what a load of rubbish, everyone who knows Cllr C Bithell or cllr Tom Jones knows them to be compassionate, caring, sympathetic men who will go out of their vway to help people.

    9. with regard to your letter to the Chronicle, why did you get cold feet?
      Was it libelous?
Did the Editor have better sense/

    10. Good point. The letter was about the stitch up of Penyffordd elections by fielding a sheet of 8 cronies for 10 places. No work required just hand over a photo and we'll stick you on the election sheet.

This will be covered on here as an article in its own right. Your comments will be of interest.

  2. What about the traffic problems in other parts of Penyffordd? Is Chester road so very different?

  5. To date, Colin is the only one I have seen stand up for speeding issues in the village. He sticks to his guns and he does not back down at the first sign of agro, he cares about the community.

    1. NOT TRUE THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL OVER THE YEARS HAVE WITH ONE VOICE DRAWN THE ATTENTION OF THE COUNTY COUNCIL AND POLICE TO SAFETY MATTERS AS THE MINUTES WILL TESTIFY

    2. "Speeding nothing to do with Penyffordd Community Council." Thus spoke Nigel Jones to my wife on the phone on instructions from PCC in 2007.
Ask Nigel he will tell you.

  6. If the Community Council have shown such an interest with One Voice over the years, they cannot have been very effective in their efforts, as the cars are still speeding away and HGV's are going through like there is no tomorow.

    1. The problem being in the past that the community council showed little interest in the speeding traffic. There were 2000 vehicles a day breaking the speed limit in Chester Rd which is a major route to school in 2007. This has now changed.

Higher Kinnerton are currently having traffic calming installed. We are on the list thanks to our county cllrs Cindy Hinds and David Williams.

      HGV's
There is much commercial traffic using the village (as you say) as a short cut, Warren bank A55 exits have added to the issue. If there is some local contract on we can have something like 40 hgv journeys a day from one contract alone.
Cllr David Williams has recently raised the issue. As far as I am concerned we have a bypass for through traffic they should be forced to use. The community council have not thought HGV an issue. I sometimes wonder why?

It would be good to see Cllrs Colin Bithell and Tom Jones show some interest in Chester Rd.

Traffic speeding is slowing down. Gosafe have been in Penyffordd 4 times last week.
The morning rat run being the worst. Cars come through the village at 20 cars per minute on occasion.

Must have an election coming soon..............
