190 more Redrow houses - Suggestions and Points

edit: brought to the top new comments

It has been suggested that I am not being very vocal over the above issue. This is true. Two years ago nearly to the month I was in the Maelor on my way to the River Styx, this altered my take on life somewhat. Two years on I am nearly fully recovered thanks to Maelor hospital staff.

To the subject in question. Eight years of fighting Penyffordd Community Council and Flintshire County Council over 2000 cars a day speeding past my house.

What did I learn? Best to have the Community Council with you. This was a little difficult as they said my issue was nothing to do with them at all. ( A lie communicated verbally)

What options have the Against 19O Redrow  Houses Committee have?

How much in need is The County in need of extra money, the answer greatly.

I would suggest letters to the papers AND many posters saying that below lining all the major roads into Penyffordd and Penymynydd.

postscript: Plus written objection outlining points made by the Against the Redrow Development which needs to be in by tomorrow the 29th.

Two emails of protest from this household going off today.

  1. Having been impacted by the Taylor Wimpey Groves sight, both during the 5 years of construction and now the imposition of new houses, blocking our light, privacy etc - I wish the new pressure group well - pity many of those taking part didn't see fit to support us when we were making representations. Oh and don't bank on any support from the community council! David and Cindy were very supportive, but not enough clout to get things changed. Make sure you pressurise the planning committee and officers beforehand - once planning is permitted the builders will build to their permissions and all is lost!

  2. Having been impacted by the Taylor Wimpey development by being able to actually buy a home, settle down near the area I am local to and work in, I am all for more housing being built.

The country is suffering from a nightmarish shortage of houses and rents continue to get more expensive - as far as I am concerned an extra 190 opportunities for people to live their lives can only be a good thing. This entire campaign is NIMBYism at its very worst: I'm alright, pull the ladder up, let me only shop at the Spar and the post office and never speak to anybody else unless it's to complain about someone else being given a chance.

    1. The village needs homes for first-time buyers and the elderly. Only a small number of the homes planned for this development will be suitable for first-time buyers. There's also a risk that the larger homes will get bought up by wealthy landlords and put up for rent. That's not going to help those who have been renting for years and feel locked out of the housing market.

    2. Your concerns are shared by the group opposing the Redrow 190 houses development. You need to make your concerns known to Flintshire Planning Committee members. I will be copying our Facebook protest group points. You need to contact FCC planning members. I will put a list on here shortly.

  3. The objections of the 'save our village' campaign, seem tenuous - even listing an increase in ASBO's in the area as a major concern?? Really?? How on earth could this even be quantified.

Residents complain of housing developments, yet reading Cindy hinds newsletter and meeting notes form the council meetings over the pasts few years - every point they discuss has the taken away action of 'speak to building firms for more funding'. There is currently £200k to be utilised by the community for improvements, which Cindy tells me is ear marked for the community centre. Why does no one talk about the positives to present a rational argument either way?

Can the objectors really have their cake and eat it? Can now thriving businesses in the area, for example the Millstone, which previous to the increase in residents couldn't sustain itself, really now be described as over stretched?

Isn't being over stretched (for example the spar at the moment) be the driver for positive change, such as a new purpose built convenience store as part of the negotiations with Redrow? This seems a more sensible use of resources and embracing change.

The council has changed the land types from agriculture to housing, therefore the decisions seem to have been made already.

Can't we put our energies into making this a success and welcoming and integrating our potential new neighbours instead of splitting the community into two halves, the historic community and the residents of new builds?

At no point have any of the residents of the 330 houses built by Taylor Wimpey, the Elan houses opposite Alyn Drive or the residents of Heritage Park been welcomed into this community. In fact Cllr Cindy's newsletter actively drives this divide - in a publicly distrubuted newsletter!! Penyffordd and Penymynydd should be ashamed of this. What sort of people are we to ostracize like this?

    1. The Millstone is successful because a lot of money has been invested in the building, has good staff and management and has good food. Many from out of the village use The Millstone, it is a credit to the village

    2. it's not about the incomers or newbies to the village - its about the way the village is being developed by the planning authorities and the developers - it can be done in a way that is in sympathy with existing householders - if public amenities are given equal weight to more housing - look at the through traffic hammering through the village for a start - oh and 6 week waits to see the GP in Mold or Buckley - great, even if you have transport

Agreed. We live in the Taylor Wimpey estate and was surprised to receive a leaflet telling me that not only was I unwelcome, I should stand alongside the people who didn't want me there in telling another load of people they weren't welcome.

    1. The leaflet unfortunate, 99.999% of people of Penyffordd are fine.

    2. Certainly had people round to my house...."at no point have any residents...." don't generalise

  5. At no point in my original post did i complain about the residents of the new Taylor Wimpey site (sight!). My complaint was against a planning process and inept county councillors or planners that allowed new houses to be built at a ground level that is 2m above my ground level and that allows new neighbours to look directly into my bedroom and lounge - extra flooding problems etc. The aggressive nature of some of the replies from the 'newbies' is worrying - you need to take the bigger picture - our village is in danger of becoming an urban sprawl for Cheshire overflow in which locals cannot afford to live here.

  6. I've just found the post on this site complaining about "muslims taking over the country". I knew I'd find one.

At least now I can ignore this blog and it's poor, deluded, racist writer.

    2. Your reading comments wrong, my blog ( Colin) , one post from an anonymous commenter whose comment regards muslims was nothing to do with the topic or an of the comments. I scratched my head as to its meaning. I thought shall I delete? I've only deleted a couple of comments in 5000 blog posts why start now.

    3. Funny I was just reading this on Zerohedge. "[Trump’s] onto something, because secretly everybody’s getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff. When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist. Clint Eastwood

  8. Development that enhances the village and local amenities is to be welcomed. But how is it wrong or 'Nimbyism' to ask that planning authorities and developers develop in a way that is sympathetic to existing householders? Seriously - 2meters above existing ground level - look at the original houses to see how they have been impacted.
