Looks a bit politically slanted but loads of county council stuff

Hi folks thanks for posting our link, much appreciated.
Interesting bit of feedback regarding politics.
The site Deeside.com aims to be as politically agnostic from a traditional perspective however, our politics is that of 'Digital' and how society now has a greater opportunity to open up democracy to citizens like never before.
The point of the platform is to give people of Deeside a platform to scrutinise local government, AM`s MP`s etc, but its not the sole focus
For reference Deeside.com is not a commercial platform and has zero funding from any party, council or commercial media organsation, our 'sister' site is Wrexham.com
The main aim is to grow a non commercial news platform relevant to Deeside, given that the media we have currently is beating a rather quick retreat, indeed Deeside and Flintshire may in the not to distant future be served by only one print title, the Daily Post.
The perception around 'political slant' is perhaps because Connah's Quay is a hub of Flintshire politics which in turn is dominated by
Labour, therefore it is relvenat to the people of that community, and whilst we have reached out to ALL parties, indeed even offered 'blogging' space on the site, to date only Mark Tami MP, Carl Sargaent AM and the council leadership have responded positively and we have developed a good relationship with them.
Anybody can contribute to the site, so feel free to get in touch, this months hot topics:
Investigation in pollution and pm2.5 levels, Deeside incinerator, Fracking, and Councillor attendance levels at meetings, freedom of information requests, and data analysis of local statistics, as well as the odd dog poo story

Hi Jonathan
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment.
I was being lazy with my comment about political bias.
No research lol
I agree with you regarding Chron and Post
The Chron is being run pathetic.
Just try getting into their offices during the day.
They cant even be arsed to answer the door which is security locked with no one on reception. You have to ring them up and try to persuade someone to come to the door.
Wrexham.com and Deeside.com are the way forward for local media in my opinion
best wishes Colin
haha, Cheers Colin, ive been intentionally coy about the origins of Deeside.com on the site, just to gauge reaction really.
ReplyDeleteThink its clearly a case of when and not if the Chronicle it ceases as a printed publication, the mother ship reported a £161m loss last week, blaming the cost of print!
keep up the great work
regards
Jonathan
Hi again Jonathan
ReplyDeleteI started this site about 8 years ago as a protest. I had about 1400 speeders a day past the house on a major route to school. I complained to the council in a nice way. They responded by saying speeding was nothing to do with them. Which is a down and out lie. So after that it was war. The tried to get FCC to shut me up, they declined. The community council tried to hold secret meetings.I have a lot to thank The Chronicle and Leader for my subsequent campaign. The Chronicle hasn't moved with the times. The Leader winds me up over the comments section. I've stopped contributing as its dead easy to get a comment removed ie. mine. No one puts deleted comments back on. Why bother? Finally I should thank Penyffordd Councillors for finally seeing sense. It didnt need to be the way it was though.
I reckon I sent Mark Tami and Carl Sargeant over 200 emails through the campaign lol Half the cllrs hid their email addresses such is the sickness here.
