Democracy coming to a computer near you
No need to traipse all the way to County Hall to listen to a Flintshire County Council meeting. In future they can be watched on your computer.
Link http://www.flintshire.public-i.tv/core/
Meanwhile Penyffordd Community Council website continues to be a dog's breakfast
You click Agenda and Minutes and you get bugger all
http://penyfforddareacc.com/local-directory/education-child-care/schools/2013-01-23-02-11-31/62-council-politics/penyffordd-community-council/95-community-council-council-agenda-minutes.html
On any proper website agendas and minutes are all together instead of being all over the show.
The latest pronouncement on grants has no date attached to it.
Quite frankly an embarrassment to the village. All for £400 and counting...............
The site must have been up for a year by now. This being Version 2.0

A chance to rid the village of lorries?
In a perfect run world lorries would use the bypass which was built especially for them.
Lorries would be banned from using the village except for access.
It would appear however our policy makers are far from perfect
A chance to make their way through the village impeded arises when the road is modified at the Chester / Hawarden Rd intersection.
The current hatched area should be built into a 2 foot high concrete block such as those protecting bridges on the A483. Signs at the entrance to village saying unsuitable for HGV's.
A start to stopping this daily abuse of our environment.

Inconsiderate Drivers continued.......
Or should I say inconsiderate people. Do you ever block someone's drive with your car then walk away some where?
Someone's done it to us twice in a week, blocking my car in the drive.
Longest period was 15 hours some years ago, had to call North Wales Police who got it sorted on a Sunday morning, well done!
I'm thinking of using wheel clamps ( carboot £10 ) and going for a two hour dog walk

Driving Gotchas
Apparently if you drive down Chester Rd to the Hawarden junction you can be undertook on the junction on the hatched lines near the Millstone.
Lets see the jokers try this when they put a 6 inch kerb there.
( The junction is going to be modified )

School Transportation Injustice
Whilst the majority of teenage school children go to Castell Alun, Hope on the school bus a minority are going to be forced to use Hawarden and Buckley Elfed schools. There will be no school. transport for them
The move is socially divisive for those involved and highly unfair.
Cllr Cindy Hinds is on the case. Flintshire County Council are being intransigent.

St John School Pelican Crossing Penymynydd Danger
Apparently drivers are going through on red lights endangering children and adults. Cllr Cindy Hinds has the authorities on the case.
What to do?
Video offenders, ban them for a year, put them in the local papers.
Will it happen? Don't hold your breath.

Deeside.Com
Looks a bit politically slanted but loads of county council stuff
Link http://www.deeside.com/
Jonathan Sheppard's reply
Hi folks thanks for posting our link, much appreciated.
Interesting bit of feedback regarding politics.
The site Deeside.com aims to be as politically agnostic from a traditional perspective however, our politics is that of 'Digital' and how society now has a greater opportunity to open up democracy to citizens like never before.
The point of the platform is to give people of Deeside a platform to scrutinise local government, AM`s MP`s etc, but its not the sole focus
For reference Deeside.com is not a commercial platform and has zero funding from any party, council or commercial media organsation, our 'sister' site is Wrexham.com
The main aim is to grow a non commercial news platform relevant to Deeside, given that the media we have currently is beating a rather quick retreat, indeed Deeside and Flintshire may in the not to distant future be served by only one print title, the Daily Post.
The perception around 'political slant' is perhaps because Connah's Quay is a hub of Flintshire politics which in turn is dominated by
Labour, therefore it is relvenat to the people of that community, and whilst we have reached out to ALL parties, indeed even offered 'blogging' space on the site, to date only Mark Tami MP, Carl Sargaent AM and the council leadership have responded positively and we have developed a good relationship with them.
Anybody can contribute to the site, so feel free to get in touch, this months hot topics:
Investigation in pollution and pm2.5 levels, Deeside incinerator, Fracking, and Councillor attendance levels at meetings, freedom of information requests, and data analysis of local statistics, as well as the odd dog poo story

The Millstone continued
The other day I said there was a for sale sign up at The Millstone.
It is now no longer there.
The pub was / is owned by Punch Taverns who bought a lot of pubs for an awful lot of money. There has been much much negotiation between Punch Taverns and the debt holders over the way forward.
ie. To pay off the debt which is billions.
I seem to remember Punch Taverns wanting to pay off the debts with pubs.
Ok if you can knock them down to build on.......

Chirk Carboot 2014
The King of Anglesey
Here holding forth on his throne is one of the main characters of the carboot all the way from Anglesey. Resplendent in his robes.
He's rather big in the Anglesey Masons hence the shades.
All who pass this stall are enlightened by his erudition and wit.
These two lads turned up 5.45am and were unable to command their normal space.
They don't go to bed on Saturday night.
Still on the small field but starting to get busy. The big field starts when the clocks go forward.
I came home with an impulse buy ( one of a few). An Open University Course in Chemistry.
A Science Foundation Course S102.
Chemicals, beakers, bunsen burner, scales, the lot.
All for £5
Arms were aching by the time we got back to the car.....

Contract lorries taking short cuts through the village
Not sure if its my imagination but the offending haulage company appear to be using the bypass instead of coming through the village.
For Sale - The Millstone Pub
Sad to see this happening. Life is very hard in many sections of the service industry.

Village Vacancy - Clerk to Penyffordd Council / Financial Officer
In the post office window is an advert for the above post. A knowledge of county council procedure and a head for figures essential.
What is perhaps less known is that the clerk should advise councillors with regards to their behavior, being vindictive, unfair, etc ( I've read the manual )
An ability to deal with dictators essential.
Which is pretty hard when council politics decide who to choose and who to retain.....
Forgot - Compensation circa £8500 + per year plus expenses.
Closing date 31st March

Lorries taking short cuts through the village
Currently we have about 50 20 ton lorry trips a day through Chester Rd.
That's on top of normal lorry traffic. We are also a major training route for HGV Lorry Schools which are legion.
We have a bypass that has been especially constructed for heavy through traffic.
Why are through HGV traffic not banned from the village?
Well Tom, why do you think its ok?
Part of the general community council sclerosis?
Lorries are an anathema to village environment, unwanted noise and danger. They also bugger up the roads, grids and drains.
postscript: For those who dont know Cllr Tom Jones is political leader of the village. He must be 87 years old.
He shouldn't have been allowed to have carried on this long. He was paid off from being a county cllr a 100 years ago.
I also think Tom is an honorary member of the Traffic Haulage Association.
postscript: Just to clear up what is below in comments. Anon made a comment. I have deleted it and reintroduced it after an edit due to libel issues.

Fibre Optic Rollout - What's happened
Someone asks. Good point.
The cable and boxes seem all in place.
Perhaps someone who knows might say. Email tresmegistes@gmail.com
I notice BT people are working inc Sundays installing underground cable between Hope and Wrexham.
I personally don't need fibre at the moment as I rarely watch movies but I'm sure there will be something I need it for.
Perhaps its cheaper? ( joke)
