An obnoxious smell coming shortly?

The above tanks most probably full of human poo. Sponsored by the government. Trade Effluent Services look like they are going to spray the fields of the deserted Black Brook farm with processed human waste. One would think processed would make the substance benign, this is not so.

There are various ways of spreading this stuff.
The best way is for it to be injected into the ground. The contractors prefer to spray it on the top as this is the easy way. I have had to wade through this stuff that covered a footpath. It had also polluted the water courses which is illegal.
You would be surprised how many human made substances survive the trip from a house waste system  through the sewage works. Hormones, contraceptives, medicines, etc

The wind is currently blowing from Black Brook Farm towards the villages of Penyffordd and Penymynydd..........................

  1. i do disagree with your blog colin.
firstly you are not a 100% sure what it that they are spreading(as your 1st sentence)
i would like to tell you that yes ok it is human waste but from what your suggesting is that it is not treated. The waste that is being spread on the fields of black brook farm is treated and is a 1000 times safer than farm yard slurry. There is a long process to treating human waste which then does get spread on fields. I walk over the fields and footpath 2 times a day and have seen no muck on the footpath let alone in the streams. T.E.S spread the waste at the right distance from the water course in which case it is LEGAL. Also this waste is beiong injected into the ground and not spread on top. You would need a spreaer to that and i have not seen one there. when you take another walk down there have a look at the reels of pipe they are used to inject it in the ground.
in future you may wish to contact the company before making wild and incorrect accusations

Hi, for the record the tanks do not contain ‘human poo’ (more commonly referred to as sewage sludge). The operation is a recycling operation whereby we use by-products from the food and drink industries as an alternative to chemical fertilisers. This diverts waste from landfill and also helps to reduce the input costs to farmers, resulting in a cleaner, greener environment and also helps to keep farmers farming and food prices reasonable. All the products are processed and safe, and are applied sub-surface using the latest injection techniques (not sprayed on top). This method is employed to minimise the impact by locking any odours (and the valuable nutrients ) into the soil and as close to the plant roots as possible. Yes, there may be odours in the immediate vicinity but I should imagine that you would have to be on the land attached to Blackbrook Farm to notice and, for some considerable time to suffer. This operation, like most of our others, is pre-approved and monitored by the Environment Agency. I am unaware of any polluted watercourses (we make regular checks of all watercourses) or illegal activities. I’m also intrigued as to the basis for your claims of the questionable levels of treatment of sewage sludge and i’m sure both the Utilities Companies and Environment Agency would have something to say about that. Finally, i’d like to assure all the local residents that we work hard to minimise the impact of our operations and sincerely hope that our presence has little to no impact on you...
