I would like to thank all those who voted for me and those who have made considered comments on the blog. As far as I am concerned progress has been made in turning a moribund community council into a more youthful enthusiastic committee fit for the 21st century.
Colin Hughes
On the positive side for you Colin you can still keep bitching and lying about members of the Community.
ReplyDeleteColin, well done on providing the foundation for the beginning of change for PCC.
ReplyDeleteThe incumbents with the exception of David and Cindy, have largely been shown to ineffective at maintaining current village facilities, standing up for their electorate (re: new housing developments and maximising the benefit to be gained for residents), and having the wherewithal to garner funding and interest in new facilities to the benefit of all.
Sadly the weight of our expectations now sit with Helen and Clive to stand up against the established committee and bring new lifeblood to the workings of the council, unfortunately they are swimming against the tide of those who prefer the comfort of their council meeting room.
At this time we need indivuals who are prepared to stand by their convictions and apply pressure to maximise benefits for those they are elected to serve, rather than view it as a pastime to get them out the house.
I think we can expect a lot from Clive Weed. His presence and thought should turbo charge the others.
DeletePerhaps if the Independents lay off a bit we can get some money from Cardiff
Well said! And Colin I am sorry that you were not elected. Change is much needed. You put up a good fight, just remember that things don't stay the same forever, we saw this when Colin Bithell was kicked off the County Council. That will come as a shock to Tom Jones and his cronies, ah well I won't be losing any sleep.
DeleteWell done for standing Colin. 230 votes was no mean feat when you were up against that well established clique.
Well done for attempting to get elected. Our family think you would have been good for the council, at least would have got them going! And yes you can still keep us informed and reporting without being tied to only being able to give the "line". Keep up the good work!!
ReplyDeleteColin, our constituents have spoken, perhaps you will get the message now. When voters express their views at the ballot box, nobody stands over them with a pistol. Local people clearly value the efforts and time-proven commitment from good & honourable people like Tom Jones, someone you have criticised so unfairly. When your track record is 10% as good as his, maybe you will have some credibility. Until then, you might like to return to your box. You have been very vocal and, on occasions, vitriolic – hopefully it’s clear that your approach has not been well received by the decent people of Penyffordd.
ReplyDeleteConsidering Colin did not hand deliver his campaign leaflet (if he did I didn't receive one), 230 votes via just an online blog is pretty good.
DeleteI'm sure if he had gone with the traditional pamphlet, then perhaps things might have been different?
As I have mentioned previously, I do not support Colin's methods, or un-necessary vitriole directed towards certain individuals. I think his message is "in the right direction" but that by changing his communication method, he would gain more credibility.
Perhaps the existing councillors should also perhaps heed the result, and give both Helen and Clive the opportunity to exercise their new found responsibilties to the full and act for those who have elected them.
This in conjunction with David and Cindy should work for the good of the community, not the few individuals who appear not to want to excercise their duties properly.
Likewise, as the councillor with the largest proportion of the vote, I would fully support Cindy being given the opportunity to take the Chair.
For TJ to demand this role on a less than overwhelming number of votes, would just show comptempt for the community for whom he suppoosed to act.
Likewise, as the councillor with the largest proportion of the vote, I would fully support Cindy being given the opportunity to take the Chair.

You raise a very important point. Tom booking his chairmanship a year before taking it shows he takes democracy for granted.
He insults Penyffordd residents in this action.
Further point with regards Cindy Hinds. Is someone such as Clive Weed going to get the Independents to actually start working with Cindy who has the village mandate.
I think the civil war between the Tom Jones' and the Labour contingent is hurting the village.
Many thanks for the comments people.
"You say Colin, our constituents have spoken."
DeleteYes Cindy Hinds beat Tom's man by 450 votes. Cindy beat Tom by 300 votes.
After a polite letter to PCC I got a phone call form Nigel. Speeding was nothing to do with the council. This will have been straight from the horses mouth ( Tom )
2000 cars a day breaking the speed limit. ( 2007)
Yes that nice man Tom Jones. Only if you don't cross him.
Just personal experience.
230 votes respect!!!!! As with the above comment. "Keep up the good work." And thanks for the lively posts in the run up to the election. This will be one election that Penyffordd will never forget!
ReplyDeleteIt should be pointed out that 17% of residents bothering to vote something of a concern. Is this because everyone not voting is content with the way the village or perhaps they think voting a waste of their time.
ReplyDeleteVoting was low everywhere Colin, there was apathy around. Some people couldn't be bothered to vote, some are just tired of politicians and this poor excuse for a Council.
ReplyDeleteNo reflection on you.
I'd like to invite you Colin and join me in congratulating Tom Jones and the other candidates that have been elected. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYes I would wish Tom Jones and the other candidates well.
ReplyDeleteLets hope the new cllrs on board will stop any silly stuff happening. ( to me, re last 4 years )
Lets hope Tom Jones will work with Cindy Hinds for the good of Penyffordd.
I know oil and water don't mix ( Tories and Labour ). We shall see.
17% this lad can not do his sums, and he aspired to represent us on the Council! God help the Residents of Penyffordd, but fortunately the silent majority decided to down grade Mr Colin Hughes.
ReplyDeleteLast Election he polled over 300- now down to a paltry 280
You have been told time and time again to try to tell tye truth!
The turnout was in the region of 40%
(You Sstupid Boy)send him to the bottom of the class!!!!!!!!!!
Captain Mainwaring says " Last Election he polled over 300- now down to a paltry 280"
ReplyDeleteA scroll to the top shows 230.
