As told by Gareth Williams of Mold in The Flintshire Chronicle on the letters page.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following on from your recent report of Flintshire's budget meeting and comments attributed to Cllr Heesom, the leader of the "New Independents" group, did Cllr Heesom reject the budget in full?
Yes, nothing new there then.
Did he offer alternatives which were viable, deliverable and affordable?
No, nothing new there then.
Did he say " You're out of your depth you don't know what you're talking about.
Yes, again, nothing new there then.
Perhaps he recognised the position that Flintshire and in fact ALL local authorities are in financially, and offered his support?
Nope. Nothing new there also.
Perhaps given the severe constraints on the council he offered some or all of the £100,000 plus set aside in the budget for HIS legal costs to offset against the closures of some of the local libraries, or even the cafe at Flintshire leisure centre.
Of course not silly me. Had he done so perhaps he would have had some credibility and support across the chamber.
Cllr Heesom has never proposed anything, achieved anything, given anything or delivered anything in all the time he has stood as a Flintshire County Councillor.
Not so much a New independent, as same old, same old.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am presuming that the writer is the former deputy council leader when last Labour governed Flintshire.
Last election he was defeated.
Flintshire Chronicle are giving Gareth a lot of space on the letters page. One presumes he will be standing as a county council candidate in next years local elections.
I was told some time ago that this would not be as a Labour candidate.
We shall see in the fullness of time.
It's a pity local media cannot find a way of publishing letters on line, perhaps even involving a paywall to look and comment. All letters written in The Flintshire Chronicle and The Flintshire Leader end up being recycled pulp. This is a pity. I hope Gareth doesn't mind his letter being cast in stone so to speak rather than used as fish and chip wrappings.

Excellent! Thanks for puttinmg that up Colin.
ReplyDeleteGareth Williams knows what he is talking about. If he stands he will get my vote.
Tx Martin. I can see from his letter he is someone of substance.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you two are even more biased and out of touch with reality than Mr Williams of Mold, who at least has public rejection by the electorate for supporting a lousy political party driving him on from what you write. I seem to recall that the Bankers, those friends of the Labour Party, are still getting large multi million pound bonuses, presumably funded by the shortly to be jobless public sector workers of Flintshire and elsewhere. I expect you also believe Patrick Heesom should roll over and accept the politically motivated accusations against him in the interests of saving money as well? I wonder how much the Ombudsmans case has cost so far, and who will carry the can for that when it fails. The answer is of course nobody will.
ReplyDeleteDave Trelawnyd
Hi Dave
ReplyDeleteI realise the letter is politically motivated. You are correct about the bankers in my opinion. I see Sir Fred Goodwin no longer wants to be called a banker ( re super injunction ) This case has come about because various groups think it has "legs".
I'm sure Patrick's lawyer will wade through anything of a superficial nature. The picture so far painted in The Leader is not very pretty.
The larger question is: Can the Ombudsman be used as a political tool. He is paid for by the WAG? PH has been kicked into the long grass for a long time.
I expect Cllr. Patrick Heesom to take responsibility for his actions. It is an utter disgrace that we have to have these hearings. Between Cllr Halford and himself the Ombudsman has been practically living here for the last couple of years, and there is another hearing for Cllr. Halford on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteIf FCC have to foot the bill or part thereof for Patrick Heesom's legal fees, that will be another rise in our Community charge for sure!
Colin
ReplyDeleteQuite agree, the executive at FCC are using this as a means of ignoring the mandate of the then elected political group, and imposing their own completely undemocratic mandate on the electors of Flintshire, aided of course by the new glorious leader, he of the dodgy dossier, and his mates. Interesting isn't it to consider who was involved in the complaints against Patrick, who then voted not to support his request for legal costs cover, then didn't turn up to the (hastily) called second meeting when the action was pointed out by the Standards Officer to be illegal and open to further action.
I believe that the ombudsman's office claim to be neutral in all of this, which given the delay they have caused by failing to hand over evidence, and actions against Alison Halford which was effectively a trial in absence of Patrick, would seem to be rather open to question. Remember this case is being heard on civil, not criminal standards of proof, so the more muck raking and ludicrous accusations Patricks accusers make the stronger their case becomes. Seems to me to be the whole thing is operating to the standards of evidence used at the Salem witch trials. Does anybody smell the Masons here?
Let’s not make this something it defiantly is not. Patrick and Alison have nobody to blame but themselves for the predicament they find themselves in.
ReplyDeleteAlison crucified Patrick on her scurrilous Blog. Giving the reader the impression that she had some inside knowledge of the matter, she alleged that Patrick was under criminal investigation by North Wales Police. To my knowledge this was not true.
Alison Halford’s Blog has caused nothing but misery in County Hall and the trust in that particular Cllr. Is at rock bottom.
Suddenly she changed her allegiance, leapt to Patrick’s defence thinking she could use him as the stick to beat the Leader with.
It all backfired. The writing is on the wall.
The leader may have a dodgy dossier, but he also has some very influential friends and we should never underestimate the level of support he has quietly acquired in County Hall
I'm so thankful I found you!
