FCC Traffic Calming Policy

Purpose of policy.

To reduce road casualties and minimise the adverse effects (environment)  of motorised traffic by the introduction of traffic calming techiques.

There is a points system to work out a method of qualification. My thanks to Cindy for giving me a copy.

Too many speed bumps in Pen y Cae

Not enough in Chester Rd. In fact there are none. So that element of drivers that ignore speed limits just hammer through. Having at least one platform and chicane would slow down traffic.

I feel it should be village policy to make it as awkward as possible for those who use the village as a short cut which in my opnion is over 1000 a day. It is possible using technology to measure the traffic to find out. Mind you I feel Derek Kirby of Flintshire County Council who is head of road strategy has different ideas.

The motoring public want to speed

There's a GATSO on the M6 near Carlisle that's brought in £3 million over the last year. All the usual suspects trotted out to say its not fair. The mindset of the drivers who ignore speed limits is the same as those that fly through our village. They really can't give a fig.

Chester Rd Traffic Education

I understand that Howie and Hugh ( our CBM and Safety Officer resp) have been out in Chester Rd this week. Educating the travelling public.

This is most welcome.

It would be most interesting to see traffic volumes and speeds for 2007 and 2010. The credit crunch I feel has made a big change to driving through Chester Rd, Penyffordd.

Speeding that's what. I do have  two councillors on the case

Impass

With regards ongoing unpoliced speeding through Chester Rd.

1. Mark Tami MP has written to Chief Constable Mark Polin on my (and others on Chester Rd) behalf
with regards no traffic policing of Chester Rd.
2. Penyffordd Community Council have had postponed meetings due to snow, ice and panto rehearsals.
3. Arrive Alive ?
4. There is a possibilty that the 30 mph limit can be pushed back.

The Lache target speeding motorists.

Lache Community Safety Wardens did a survey using a device I think similar to the one Hugh Jones of ArriveAlive uses. I have a picture of it but won't publish it as a minority would seek to vandalise what is a valuable tool to survey village speeding. The MidWeek Chronicle quotes a Chester City Council spokesperson, " Our Safety Warden will continue to work with the Police to address the speeding".

Lache figures 31-39 mph 37%, 40-49mph 4 .3% , Over 50mph 0.3%

Chester Rd Penyffordd 31-39 mph 56%, Over 40mph 8%

So the Lache Community are concerned with their levels of speeding. Ours speeding levels in Traffic Taliban Country are nearly double.

Location Penymynydd Junction with Chester Rd - Conditions Sunny -
Our location was fairly hidden - no fluorescents.

A good proportion were looking out for traffic enforcement we thought.
This survey was done honestly with no intention to exaggerate.
We have both we feel a very good eye for speed.
This may be put to the test in the near future when I test myself
against Hugh from ArriveAlive's radar gun!

Perceived under 30 mph = 93 vehicles
Total going out of village = 422
