Park in the Past - Where its going.

On our doorstep and not known about by many. There's a couple of parking spots on Stryt Isa. I think its possible to get there on public footpaths.

postscript: I see there is a bridle path at the top of the village on the Wrexham Rd that joins to Stryt Isa near the footpath that goes over the railway into Park In the Past footpaths. Some are proper footpaths others permitted footpaths.

Courtesy of https://twitter.com/DronePicsWales One way to get here is walk past Penyffordd Train Station towards Pontblyddyn. First left down Stryt Isa. About half a mile on the right is a footpath which goes over the railway. There is usually room to park the car. 

If you enlarge photo the footpath is near the white house to the right of the lake. This was a sand quarry used by Castle Cement. I've read the sand was formed by glaciers descending down the Ffrith valley.....

Secret Lake

This lake is within half a mile of Penyffordd but most residents do not know it exists.
You can get to it down Stryt Isa. Along a footpath, over the railway.

The dog has a fascination with horses if controlled he will lick a horse.

Outside Llanfynydd a War Memorial

An old Lime Kiln near Bwlchgwyn near Werngate Farm.
The owner of farm was very friendly.
We talked about mining rights in the area. He directed us to the lime kiln.
Its nice to meet people who will give you the time of day. There are too many millions of social cripples in this world who have never been taught on how to socialise.

A gargoyle at Plas Uchaf Hall outside of Llanfynydd. There are about ten of them in the wall, a lovely house, the use of a stream through the property very imaginative.
That's an arm or a leg he or she is chewing!

Out for a walk in Nant y Ffrith

The pigs are being moved to Nant y Ffrith woods, they are supposed to be following the van.

Whilst walking around Hope Mountain we came across 4 emu's.

The strange bird in the woods

Just had a phone call off Gladstone woodsman Frank Mills of Hawarden. He solved the problem of the strange bird we see on our travels in 10 seconds. It's a Woodcock.



This bird is being ringed for research. If its caught again the bird authorities will know a little more about its movements.

The distinctive courtship flight of the male Woodcock is called "roding" and is usually performed in the twilight just before dawn and at dusk. The bird flies circles with a flickering flight 3-30m above the canopy with it's bill held pointed downward and accompanies this with several croaking sounds ending with a sharp squeak. The sounds can be heard up to 300m away.

Elegantly beats 2 bottles of wine and an invite back for a coffee.

Penyffordd Bridle Path Swamp

This is the best route along this edge. Over to the left a 2 foot drop. You can see where the horses have lost footing with sliding hoof marks into the brook.

Lisa above standing on the best passing point. She is standing on a fence post.

Hoof prints a foot deep filled with water or mud. I have filled some of them with stones. Its a lottery whether your foot stays on the surface or goes down 9 inches.

The middle of the bridle path above. The monster thinks its marvelous.

This bridle path is used every day by walkers and horses. This area is a possible serious injury or death location for horse riders.

A walk to calm the soul

Links to the walk are here. The walk we did was from Ffrith to Bwlchgwyn and back again. It's 2.5 hours, leg and arm protection needed. It will be muddy in places. By doing this walk this way you do the climb on the way up instead of the way back. One of the tracks was used to transport lead ore from Minera to Ffrith in Roman times.

The Walk Easter Sunday

From Llangollen to World's End
Half way up The Panorama.
Time taken 6 hours with pitstops and a few
protests from the gang.
No ropes or clampons needed
Can be undertaken by most people.
Two climbs will needed to be done in stages.
Hat tip to Gary for a great route.



The lane from Llangollen to World's End. I do not recommend
route by car on a Bank Holiday. It is a single lane in quite a few places.
Have you ever tried telling 10 car drivers they all have to
reverse or we will be here till midnight?
