Chirk Carboot 2014

The King of Anglesey

Here holding forth on his throne is one of the main characters of the carboot all the way from Anglesey. Resplendent in his robes.
He's rather big in the Anglesey Masons hence the shades.

All who pass this stall are enlightened by his erudition and wit.

These two lads turned up 5.45am and were unable to command their normal space.
They don't go to bed on Saturday night.

Still on the small field but starting to get busy. The big field starts when the clocks go forward.

I came home with an impulse buy ( one of a few). An Open University Course in Chemistry.
A Science Foundation Course S102.
Chemicals, beakers, bunsen burner, scales, the lot.
All for £5
Arms were aching by the time we got back to the car.....

To Chirk Carboot Sale

A lovely spring morning even if there was frost on Penyffordd house roofs. We look at every stall. At the height of summer there are over 800 sellers. Today's haul included two tomato plants that are three times the height of mine. A weather proof anorak, one's they use on yachts, wind proof and weather proof for the princely sum of £1. Sixty seed trays for £3.

Concentration is required to find what we are looking for. We have about 10 competitors looking for the same book stuff as us. There's usually enough to go around for everyone.

The keen ones are there at 6.00am looking what everyone is bringing. Thankfully we turn up at a more leisurely time.

To Chirk Carboot

Still in the top field for the winter. A mild day, many hundreds there. The car boot moves to the big field when the clocks go back.

Carboots for Sunday

The Best - Chirk - Free entry for buyers, sellers from £8
Can be dusty or muddy, sheep muck if he's had them on the field........
You can expect near 2000 there tomorrow given the good weather outlook.
How many stalls? What if I said 300?
Takes us 3 hours to walk around.
Good for flowers and plants, children's toys, books, clothes, car parts and accessories, local produce, meat,  antiques, mobile phones, computers, bikes,  golf clubs, anything goes except live stock.
No trouble there it's very easy going.
It will be getting busy by 8 tomorrow.
Very multi cultural.
Yes dogs are allowed.
We don't take ours as we would never get around.................
A nice English bull terrier brindle puppy there last week
It "mouths" and had teeth like needles.............

Chester Hospital - They have a long list of what can't be sold where Chirk allows everything. Held on concrete

Chester Rugby Club starts 10am , Chirk starts at day light or earlier if you have a torch. You think I'm joking don't you. I'm not, it's keen for some stuff.

To Chirk Carboot

Alternative title - The Calm before the Rain.
There 8.00 am back 9.15 a bit wet.
The rain as shown moving up at a rapid pace.
Started coming up last night from Lands End.

Couldn't believe how many car booters were still there.
Always best to look at the Met rain radar to see what's happening.
Sometimes Snowdonia takes all the rain from Ireland
but not this lot coming up from the south.

Hot peppers galore

To Chirk carboot sale. The pepper man is there for the first time this year. His peppers not liking the biting cold wind. We have come away with the above speciman (in 3 months time) which is an Orange Habenero which is very hot. Bought it for its looks really. Perhaps it would make a good pepper spray?

Also bought a Big Jim, Gold Cayenne, Twilight and Pinnochio's Nose. (below)

After a few hours in the greenhouse the peppers look fine. They are about 2 inches high. If kept in the house over Winter they will fruit each year.
