Tom's Farm

Whilst on planning developments I see former Cllr Tom Jones' farm has been sold. I think the assets were split in to two parts. Farm buildings and a bit of land and farm land.

Big Shoes to Fill

With the recent death of Tom Jones there now exists a position of Community Cllr. The notice is outside the post office.

Only skimmed document but it basically says that residents have a certain amount of time to put forward names of candidates. If no candidates are put forward the community council will pick someone.

The position lasts for a year until the next elections.

Call Me Councillor II

Just had a conversation with Lisa that spurred thoughts on how up to recently new community cllrs were chosen. Say we have 10 community cllrs. I'd check but its not written down anywhere easy.
A bit like the Masons.

There is a political divide within the village. Recently it was 9 - 1.

Nine Independent ( some old Conservatives ) and one Labour

The nine Independents all go to the electorate on one sheet. So all electoral costs are vastly reduced.
I've tried twice to be a community cllr and failed twice, personal costs are well over £200 an election plus a walk around every house in the district delivering leaflets. The £200 is non return it's a cost full stop.

The village voted in a sick man who shouldn't have stood. He beat me, no hard feelings, residents did me a favour. It's better being outside the tent rather than inside the tent.

quote: http://izquotes.com/quote/241192  (adult content)

I didn't ask Tom whether I could go on his sheet.................We had a temporary difference of opinion about speeding traffic on Chester Rd. It lasted 7 years.

Also you don't get paid or have any expenses as a community cllr. In fact it costs you in money and time. Such is the sacrifice for you're fellow residents which is not generally appreciated.

The old way of doing things was for the political head of the village to invite you to stand. This is after he's decided whether you have the right qualities to join his gang. We won't go any further on that one................

The main objective to keep Labour out of everything. The only problem being Labour run Wales and Flintshire County Council.

So that may be part of the reason why the village has under developed public facilities.

Why PACA was formed to develop village amenities.
Why Red Lion patrons got involved.

Cllr Tom Jones is political leader. His knowledge of procedure and local politics great.
Tom's reign is theoretically coming to a close. He's about 88 years old.
The village got fed up with him as a school governor.

I think he should be given an advisory role due to his knowledge.

So from the 9 -1 we go into the 2016 (edit please read comments its altered to 2017) local elections with may be more than one Independent standing down, maybe 3 or 4.
We have a new Labour community cllr so that makes two. A Plaid Cymru cllr has recently come out of the closet. ( perhaps I didn't read 2012 election literature properly)
Red Lion patrons will perhaps wish to make gains

I see Labour trying to make more gains. Cllr Tom Jones' power base collapsing.

This is my opinion. If I talk "pants" please say so in comments with qualification.

postscript. The 2016 local elections will have as a backdrop diminishing local money. We have a UK government that owe £1.5 trillion. (we'll forget the 100's of trillions of derivative exposure by the "investment companies") UK Government are telling England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland they will be getting a lot less money to spend. Welsh Assembly will be giving counties less money. Flintshire County Council will be giving town and village councils less money. There is currently a program of asset transfer from county to community ( read community paying for stuff instead of county council but  you're rates will still rise). So not much room for facility improvement except if we have another 1000 houses......

Harvest

We have idiot contract farm workers hammering through the village on tractors with trailers at the moment.
One gent didn't see the reason why he should slow down through the village.

On cocaine and bonus?

Being made to use the bypass might slow them down.

Can you have a word Tom?

I mean ask the farmer to ask them to slow down. Banning through traffic a bridge too far.

Mark Isherwood AM

Haven't seen him in the Flintshire Chronicle for ages. Thought he'd died.

Anyway he is alive and well on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/MarkIsherwoodAM?original_referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.deeside.com%2F&profile_id=763796425&tw_i=487550574674845696&tw_p=embeddedtimeline&tw_w=378515969737371648

Also here http://markisherwood.co.uk/

Mark's website is impressive  perhaps Penyffordd Community Council might take a look.

Just in case you think I'm Conservative, I'll put Labour on shortly

On the presumption that Tom owns the field opposite his farm. I spy a Conservative placard at voting times in the past. Surely not you say he's Independent.

Penymynydd Roundabout Traffic

I see the above appeared on the Penyffordd Community Council July agenda.  This is an area I try to steer well clear of at busy times such as first thing and tea time. The roundabout has two lanes entry at some junctions. The roundabout is not designed for two vehicles side by side even if some sillies try it.

Cllr David Williams wants the roundabout decorated with plants and trees. I think is should be shrunk to allow two cars to go around at the same time in safety.
The roundabout is a outdated, a bottleneck

A further option is to knock Tom's house ( Penyffordd Headquarters) down and make the roundabout bigger and make the section of road between Penymynydd and Dobshill a dual carriage way. ( I joke)

postscript: Also an issue is the Hope turning at Hope which should be made three lanes. This affects Penyffordd residents but is not in our parish

Congratulations to Sarah Hughes the new Clerk to the Council

Hi Sarah,

Can you ask Tom if its ok for you to expose council minutes in full on the notice board?
Today I see 2 pages exposed to view rather than the normal front page.

Most of the stuff on the notice board is unimportant
For example the village website that has not been in existence for 10 years.

Perhaps you can explain to Tom that his view that residents should be kept in the dark when ever possible except for election time is a little out dated.

ps I see no email address or anything else to contact you.

As the person of first contact you should have one

Fact Most Penyffordd Cllrs have email addresses but hide them.
Cindy Hinds, David Williams, Linda Vidamour and Dr Clive Weed the exceptions.

Some things in Penyffordd don't change.

Penyffordd Community Council changes

In the Chronicle today I read Penyffordd is to have an increase of county councillors from two to three. This is because of the increase of residents with the new estates. To those who know they might exclaim "Well what has that to do with the community council?"

Well little I have to put something down.

There will also be boundary changes.

Other Flintshire wards have lost one or two county cllrs.

Is Tommy going for the Big 90 as a cllr !

Will he have enough groupies left alive to vote him as political leader of the village?

Let's hope not Tom, time to go !

Lorries taking short cuts through the village

Currently we have about 50 20 ton lorry trips a day through Chester Rd.

That's on top of normal lorry traffic. We are also a major training route for HGV Lorry Schools which are legion.

We have a bypass that has been especially constructed for heavy through traffic.
Why are through HGV traffic not banned from the village?

Well Tom, why do you think its ok?

Part of the general community council sclerosis?

Lorries are an anathema to village environment, unwanted noise and danger. They also bugger up the roads, grids and drains.

postscript: For those who dont know Cllr Tom Jones is political leader of the village. He must be 87 years old.

He shouldn't have been allowed to have carried on this long. He was paid off from being a county cllr a 100 years ago.

I also think Tom is an honorary member of the Traffic Haulage Association.

postscript: Just to clear up what is below in comments. Anon made a comment. I have deleted it and reintroduced it after an edit due to libel issues.

Farmworkers being antisocial

At the moment ( 21.26hrs) tractors with trailers are going through Chester Rd and other Penyffordd roads. Some of them are taking off at the traffic bumps creating large bangs.

I wonder if you can have a word with the farmer Tom?

It's not on and they should not be doing it.
