Tan 1 Consultation - Welsh Assembly Government

WAG are doing a consultation. This is to do with Welsh County Councils and having a 5 year supply of land for building purposes. Without a 5yr supply developers are able to build regardless of WAG Law. Well that's my interpretation. Flitshire County Council are currently in this position as are many other Welsh Councils. Should never have been part of the Bill. Someone batting for developers on this.

You can have your say here.

The morning's drive to work

So you're on your way down Penymynydd Rd, you're in a rush, half a sleep, etc. You get to the bottom you see the traffic has stopped, you swing around to the left, not paying attention, suddenly there is a loud shout, you hit the brakes. You are 10 feet from the lollypop man and three children crossing the road.

Car reg reported to FCC

This is the 2nd time this has happened. A minority of drivers use Chester Rd as a race track.
Time for 20mph zones which are enforced

Wrexham BC have 20 mph zones everywhere. Flintshire CC next to none.

Rain is forecast.
It is however only Tuesday. Plenty of time for change.

Speed check warning from police for motorists using Penymynydd Road

Happens on Chester Rd too, a major route to school and used by many children. Motorists are over taken on the speed bumps, also because they observe the speed limit.

Perhaps a councillor could have a word with NWP.

FCC have data on when it happens.

Going to work, coming home and shift change at lunchtime.

Tom's Farm

Whilst on planning developments I see former Cllr Tom Jones' farm has been sold. I think the assets were split in to two parts. Farm buildings and a bit of land and farm land.

Our green barrier to shrink?

Proposed development of land between Buckley and  Padeswood / Penymynydd. This has been on the cards for at least 10 years. The proposed development will as a local cllr points out fragment Buckley shopping centre which is constantly under threat from local supermarkets, etc.

Knives found in Penymynydd Park

Someone is killed almost every other day in London by people using knives.

The pair of knives were discovered by police officers in the park off Oak Drive in Penymynydd , prompting an investigation.

Buses

Its Saturday night 18.40. The bus is outside at the bus stop. There are no people getting on the bus, there are no people on the bus. Just an observation.

Penymynydd roundabout, not fit for purpose

We had a bypass built, a proper roundabout constructed at the train station.  Penymynydd roundabout was left as it was. So many mornings we have a queue of traffic the entire length of Penyffordd bypass. This encourages traffic to take a short cut through the village.

Penymynydd roundabout needs upgrading. Dual entrances. Smaller roundabout?

Don't see much concern over this.

Another issue is the Hope junction at Hope. If you get there before 4.30 pm the world is fine. 15 minutes later and you are in a 15 minute queue.

Potholes

FCC are going to start dealing with potholes. Have wondered for a while why the potholes were allowed to develop. The amateur repairs a joke.

I've decided it's some sort of political thing. #nationalgov

Speed Awareness

Police have been seen up the Vounog with speed cameras. This morning on my way the Spar I noticed a young man in a dark car coming out of the Spar, he seemed intent on reaching 60 mph before he got to the barbers. I have a policy of always walking on paths facing the traffic so I have a second or two to react.

Bus Stop Timetables in Penyffordd

New bus stops have been erected. Old timetables have been installed. Also FCC website is showing old timetables.

Also routes have been changed.
People have been stranded. Having to walk to Buckley, someone having to get a taxi home from Tesco's with a full shop.

Some piss poor management going on here

Chester Road is having a new bus shelter

The old one has been pulled down yesterday. The Welsh Assembly Government are funding this.

Penyffordd Institute

is having its carpark enlarged. Looks like Read's are doing it.

Proposed Redrow 192 houses

If you drive up Chester Rd past the estate on the left you will see nets on the hedges before Mrs Hibbert's house. I've decided these are there to stop birds nesting. Perhaps so the hedges can be pulled down.

Why would that be?

At the time of writing I'm unaware of any decision made by the WAG Inspector or a senior WAG politician with regards that proposed in the headline.

The history of the far park / sledgeing field by John Wrench

The field was originally park land with the slope being covered in trees as it was the park for the small county house Meadowslea the last private owner was Mr Almore Frost (spelling possibly wrong) who sold the house with gardens to the council to create the TB hospital he then sold the field with Blackbrook farm to Charles Wrench
In the 1926 miners strike the trees were all felled so the villagers could have the wood to burn to keep there house warm and to cook with
The flat part of the field at the bottom was the first Penyffordd cricket pitch complete with pavilion until the 50s when they moved to Wood Lane and the pavilion moved to Blackbrook farm as a hen house and lasted until the early 2000's
Blackbrook farm was sold after the death of Cora Wrench in the 1970s but two of her sons rented the farm John and Harry and later my farther Stephen. They continued to run the farm as "Wrench Brothers" the farm was known for its pedigree Border Lester sheep and its dairy herd which sadly due to its small scale gave up in 1997 after a fire in 2006 at Blackbrook our landlord later sold the farm house and building with a couple of field but the land on the Vounog Hill is still farmed the the family mainly for summer grassing for our beef herd

Just though I would let you all know the history of this field that has been an asset to to village for many years with sledgeing and pleasant views which may not be here for future generations to enjoy

If anyone has an memory's of the field / farm please share

Allotment News and Door trying

Residents continue to report someone trying their front doors to see if they are unlocked. Usually at night. Two attempts on The Groves estate. One resident says he is "baseball bat ready". There was a multiple NWP presence in Penyffordd the night before last. Perhaps they are connected.

Penyffordd Allotments near The Millstone now have CCTV. This can scan the allotments and the children's play area. Also the rear of the bus shelter.

Penyffordd Institute also has CCTV

Attempted Break In Abbotts Lane Tonight

On Facebook somebody reports that their front door handle was tried to see if it was open. The lights were on, they were in and security light came on.
This is disconcerting.
This individual says it has happened once before.
Another person mentions same scenario, the dogs went mad.

If this stunt is tried at our house they will get 22kg of muscle and teeth with night sight flying at them. He doesn't let go. He will be closely followed by a golfing male wielding a mashie niblick. One's home is one's castle. Most probably against the law but they shouldn't be breaking in.
Too many horror stories in the press. We should have similar laws as US. The right to fire arms and a right to shoot intruders.

Last night a girl on FB said someone tried to set her car on fire which was on her drive.
I know the technique used, it was mentioned in The Daily Post. This was Cae Vounog which must be a new estate.

I hope these people have reported incidents to NWP.

All change at The Evening Leader

A sign of the times

http://www.wrexham.com/news/editorial-voluntary-redundancy-programme-starts-at-nwn-a-leader-edition-quietly-closes-last-week-142908.html

A big thank you to Leader staff you have done communities proud.
A big help when 2000 cars a day* broke the speed limit most days on Chester Rd.

*FCC hold the data

Speeding in the village

North Wales Police were up The Vounog yesterday educating motorists. Down here in Chester Rd we have a speed hump to slow down traffic. Some motorists go full speed over them.
In fact some motorists use the traffic bump as an over taking opportunity when motorists slow down for the bump.

Profiles of the speed bumps can be made more severe at little cost.

Our lolly pop man is currently unwell and last week a young girl had a narrow escape I am told. We had a road traffic accident 2 days ago between a bus and two cars. Nothing to do with the bus driver. There was a rather large bang as the two cars collided.  The give way at the bottom of Penymynydd Rd a dated function not fit for modern roads.

Time for some education in Chester Road.

Time for 20mph zones. Flintshire County Council currently have an allergy to 20 mph zones.
It would be good to see a change of policy.

Penyffordd Bus Time Table

I'm told time tables have changed. I try not to use buses myself after my Crosville experiences as a child. The use of a car is the ultimate freedom.

Here's the time table which I presume is correct.

My wife uses an app to see if trains to Wrexham are running on time or cancelled due to vehicles hitting bridges.

No Entry at the top of Penymynydd Rd

HGC De Sir Fflint / NWP South Flintshire
Word of warning, as of the 13th December the ‘Fail to comply with No Entry Sign’ offence has reverted back to an endorsable offence under section 36 of the RTA.

This means 3 points on your driving licence or to put it another way caught 4 times means you lose your licence.
Police still get reports from Penymynydd Road about people entering the No Entry sign near the school so be aware.

A Happy Christmas for Trevor

All the best for Christmas and the New Year.

For the last 3 months or so a guinea fowl called Trevor has been wondering around Penymynydd roundabout  trying his best to get run over. He's famous on Facebook.
Apparently Trevor hails from Spon Green in Buckley.

There have been numerous attempts to catch him by the RSPCA and others.
A local couple called Duncan and Frances who had been feeding him managed to catch him last week.

Trevor now resides in Gordale Garden Centre where he has loads of new guinea fowl mates.

I have a Facebook account and a Twitter account. Thought I'd start following @bernieatto

For those who do not know Bernie is Deputy Council Leader of Flintshire County Council.

I find Twitter very good. I follow all sorts of people including Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin.
Theresa May is not impressed with Twitter I think, its too honest. She does have an account.
I retweet stuff to her about 20 times a day.

Penyfford Youth Club - A Plea from Cllr David Williams

Save our Youth club and Old School!

We do not know what Flintshire County Council have in mind for the building so we need to keep pressure on to make sure that it is not lost. Anybody interested in the building or preserving one of the few heritage features of the village are also welcome to attend. Please contact David Williams if you need any further information.

Wrexham Maelor Hospital Map PDF

I have an appointment this week. I am familiar with the hospital but I am going to an outpatient dept of which I am unfamiliar. I'll do a google to find a hospital map.

20 minutes later... zilch.
I am familiar with google search I use it most days.
I'll email them to ask for a map location of the net.........
Another brick wall with email address.

Anyway here it is.

postscript: Map is not dated but it is old. A department I know exists is called something else. Best get confirmation on the way in.
Parking the car an eternal problem. How much time do you allow for parking? How long is a piece of string? I have 3 favoured areas, one normal, one on mud near signs saying do not park and another one on mud around the corner.

Vounog Hill Development Update

Copied from Facebook

Vounog Hill Development Update

Yesterday we met with Strutt & Parker land agents, who are representing the landowner of the fields on Vounog Hill.

It was speculated in social media a couple of weeks ago that surveyors were on the land between Meadowslea and Vounog Hill. Following the meeting we can confirm that plans have been drawn up for 37 homes and the planning application is expected to be published for pre-planning consultation later this month.

In this case the people we met with, and the landowner by implication, appear very community focussed and reasonable. They are aware of the Redrow and other applications and the objections from the community. They admitted that they fearful of ‘missing the boat’ if they wait for the full LDP process (the site has been submitted to Flintshire as a potential LDP candidate site now).

They are looking at a continuation of the line of the Meadowslea houses, connecting them to the road but no further down the hill (see map).

They are aware that we have objected, on principle, to any planning applications that come ahead of the LDP process, irrespective of their content, as set out in the Penyffordd Place Plan (if you haven't signed up to it yet please do it now, we just need your name and address - email team@penyfforddcommunity.org).

In spite of our position, they are keen to ensure that the development, if built, fits in with the community and causes the least harm. We discussed the proposal in detail and they listened to our concerns for neighbouring residents and the needs of the wider village.

As soon as the proposal plans come through with the detail, we will make sure they are shared and we can provide detailed feedback.

Construction News - More attacks on the village

I saw 2 workmen with fluoro's theodolites on the corner of the field below Meadowslea the other day. I thought strange. Forgot to pass it on........
