Quote of the week
Seeing as the Top Gear job has gone to Chris Evans I suppose I'll have to settle for replacing Foo Fighters at Glastonbury.

Who suggested closing of the only proper shop in the village to Flintshire County Council?
ref PEN035 This was the item passed by Penyffordd Community Council to get their shiny bright new primary school, selling their soul's for a school.
Might be best if answers are cryptic for now.
I think it an affront to democracy that these representee's might be hiding behind the Data Protection Act.
I have questioned this with the legal eagles at FCC

Primary school plans comment floating to the top......
"a certain somebody commissioned an architect friend to draw up the plans, of his own volition, non of the other school governors knew....nor the school.......this is one man's mission.......the fact that it protects the Red Lion pitch is immaterial!!!!! and if you believe that... "

New Penyffordd Primary School Plans
Apparently Ysgol Penyffordd School plans have been drawn up for LDP site PEN041.
I was going to ask Flintshire County Council who drew up the plans, were they subcontract and how much did they cost?
It appears FCC did not draw up the plans. I am told Ysgol Penyffordd were surprised at their introduction, they knew nothing about them.
I am told FCC will not release the name of individual / company that drew up the plans at present
All those who have made suggestions as to the future of Penyffordd should be in the public domain. How many of our aspirants are house/school building companies?
All this has certain finger prints attached to it.

Millstone Pub Clarification
On closer look at the map I see its the Millstone surrounds are earmarked not the pub. Although the boundary line of the aspiration does go through the pub balcony and all of the bowling area which will be required to fullfill the pub's potential. I did ask planning whether the pub was part of the plan, his answer did not answer my question presuming something slightly different.
postscript. Cllr intentions with regards the Millstone land
(ref LDP PEN041 )would be akin to building houses on half the Red Lion car park.
I don't think Penyffordd Cllrs who are Red Lion patrons ( at least 3) would vote for Flintshire County Council to consider this in the Local Development Plan.
Many thanks to the Flintshire Chronicle for publishing my letter.

Penyffordd Community Council Minutes March 2015 Extract regarding Penyffordd LDP
You know I can go a week without finding anything Penyffordd to write about then.......
My problem being I rarely look at the Penyffordd Council site due to issues over the last 3 years on how its being managed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
145. Flintshire Local Development Plan – Candidate Sites Cllr Williams circulated an email on 3rd March with an A4 map detailing candidate sites for the LDP. He and the Clerk had also received a pack including an outlined map of each individual candidate site. Cllr Williams advised that FCC have asked for views of elected members by 20 April 2015.
Due to the short timescale of receiving the information it was resolved for the Cllrs to consider the sites and be carried forward for discussion on next month’s agenda. Cllr Williams will contact Andy Roberts to request a digital copy of the pack to enable him to email to all other Cllrs.

LDP Comment - Brought to the top
"I too noticed that the football pitch at the infants school has been referenced for protection and voted on by our community council. Who thinks it's ok to protect a football pitch used by one team every other week instead of a successful thriving pub, a childrens play park, a multi use games area, a small childrens football pitch, a dozen allotments, a caravan park and a house? Someone who has a vested interest, who doesn't have the community needs in mind...someone who should hang their head in shame. If is is one of our elected representatives, they should be named and shamed and resign or be hounded out. Looking at all the plots referenced its obvious that there is a lot of vested self interest and not much community interest going on. This village has seen too much development, much of it poor quality and having a negative impact on the community and our local reps have stood by and done nothing. disgrace....time for change Penyffordd."

Further LDP Candidate Comment
"The pyf councillors should be ashamed of themselves for passing this candidate site. No objections either? Absolutely ridiculous. The perfect site for the 'new school' is the existing infant school, there is more than enough land, it's a no brainer. Furthermore I see that one of the candidate sites is the playing fields / football pitch of said school, and that is proposed to be protected, hmm, something is going on here... developers and money maybe, pub wars maybe, who knows.
I'd look forward to seeing who proposed this site, i'll put money on it that it is no one affected, the millstone pub is thriving and has achieved the top20 of tripadvisor best places to eat in chester - they hadn't bought the place when the proposition was put forward. The millstone park home site is owned by the residents and none of them would consider this, park is council property and allotments are privately owned but on a lease to the council i expect.
You are right, all my faith has been lost the councillors after reading this - they are obviously motivated by something other than the best interests of the community. It is time for a change."

Water Pressure
I live in a row of 100 year old cottages serviced by a common lead water pipe. The lead pipe has a build up on its internal diameter. Quite a good idea with it being lead.............
Neighbours have got that fed up with low water pressure over the years that they have had a new plastic pipe plumbed in from the main pipe outside the front.
Tonight I notice higher pressure from the cold downstairs tap that is piped off the rising main.
This is good news. Lets hope it stays.

Penyffordd Councillors agree to close the only shop in the village
Might as well put it on now as I've just found it.
Post Office can be discounted.
Would a Penyffordd Cllr like to explain why a shop that serves the community from early morning to late at night very well is voted by them to be knocked down for housing.
Many 100's use this shop each day.
Who suggested this!

Comments with regards a New Primary School Site
1. the list of suspects gets narrower......Cindy is after all a great supporter of the allotments. Wake up people of Penyffordd...look what your apathy is achieving ...a Community council that blindly accepts a ridiculous set of plans that rips the heart out of our community, destroys the only truly communal green area in the village and votes it all through... We need fresh blood on the community council, younger people to reflect the changing demographic....don't stand by and watch this self serving bunch further ruin our community - stand up!
2. namely the current infant school with the huge football pitch behind it.......oh wait.....i see now why a site at the heart of the village was nominated....ruin businesses, destroy homes...rip up £000000's in the all weather games area, children's park, allotments......must protect the full size football pitch that is only used by one set of stakeholders!
3. we have two county councillors....one is a fan of the allotments, one wants to protect the full size football pitch behind infants school - which given its size is the obvious site for a new village school.
4. I should think it is quite possible to be a representee without being the owner of the land. After all, it's quite possible to submit a full planning application for land you have no control over, as you can see in the following link
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/merseyside/7344045.stm
Did you explain that you had seen the proposal in the community council papers? It's not hard to understand why people would think that gives it credence is it?

Use this map or google maps to come up with a land plan that does not include the destruction of homes or jobs.
You can email copies to me at tresmegistes@gmail.com
You can do it anonymously if you make a new email account up using hotmail or gmail.
It took me 5 minutes to remove £1 million pounds of compensation from the current land plans.
The current use of land mentioned on the FCC map is wrong. It is not agricultural it's residential, commercial and agriculture

Millstone Pub Area Site - New Primary School
An email to Flintshire County Council
I wish to have details of the candidate site surrounding the Millstone Pub
which I have been told has been earmarked for a new primary school.
1. Is the earmarked development for a primary school on the area including the Millstone definite?
2. Will you supply plans for the proposed Primary School?
3. Have any Penyffordd representatives been involved in the above proposal, if so who?
Many thanks

Dear Mr Hughes
Thank you for your email regarding candidate sites. Explanatory information about what candidate sites are, as well as the complete register of sites (including maps) is available on the Council's website. However, given you specific query I have attached a pdf plan of the site you refer to.
I also need to clarify what seems to be your impression that candidate sites have been proposed by the Council - they are not. The Council made a 'call for sites' last year allowing anyone with an interest in requesting land for consideration as part of the LDP process, to make a representation. These sites simply represents people's aspirations therefore, and there is no weight or certainty assigned to them at this stage by the Council. Indeed they are going through an assessment exercise at present.
It would also have been useful to have know from whom you received the information as again you have been misled into thinking that the Council has plans for a school on this site - it has not.
A candidate site was received for the land as you say surrounding the Millstone pub and as shown on the attached plan, with a request that it be considered as a site for a new school. As I say this is just the expressed aspiration of the representee and is not a Council proposal. Unfortunately due to data protection rules I cannot disclose who made the representation to you. However, I can say that I have been made aware this week the the representee has submitted this land in error, and I am currently awaiting formal notice from them of their intention to withdraw the candidate site. When they do so, the Council will not consider this site any further.
I hope that I have answered your query.

Penyffordd Development Plan - Ripping the Heart out of the Village?
The following comment has been repeated on this blog
" nothing about the county development plan and all the proposed development sites....which are now confirmed as going in to the county plan and that does mean compulsory purchase of the Mill Stone, the Caravan park, the removal of the allotments and play area to make way for a new single site school.....the plans have now been seen by our county councillors.........where is the debate and public consultation????? Go and play on the main road
We've had a bunch of noisy kids outside the house this afternoon riding over the speed bumps on Chester Rd on scooters.
I'd take a picture which is perfectly legal but flack will ensue.
Penyffordd councillors need to be aware that speeding is still happening on Chester Rd. I've seen a car do close to 50mph over the bumps
it was not a 4 x 4 either.

New Penyffordd Primary School for the Village
I have received the following comments on another post. I know not who commented nor do I need to know. The question is are these comments accurate?
Comment 1
"You might want to start asking questions about the plans for the new primary school in the village. Following the merger of the infants and juniors, a plan is in place to merge them on one site.....taking over the community garden, play area, children's park, allotments, caravan park and ....Millstone...all by compulsory purchase.
And our community councillors know about...as do our county councillors.....so the council get to sell off two existing school sites, for housing no doubt, more greedy developers, rob the village of more community amenities and don't give the proverbial for what they are doing to our village"
Comment 2
"I've heard the same...outline planning permission to be put in soon, but the headmistress at the school has the plans!
The amount of money invested in the Millstone...people prepared to invest in a local business and will see it all taken away...all the homes on the caravan park....the time and money put in by allotment holders....with councillor support......more children's play space taken away...more development likely.....less and less care shown by our civil representatives....just look at how the voted for the new incinerator....how may councillors were missing from the vote....dereliction of duty...can't be bothered to turn up......or just pretend it isn't happening so i don't get tarred with voting for it"

Clearing the shed out
What would you do if you found a hand grenade in the shed?
Would you leave it there and call the authorities?
Take it down the bobby shop?
I suppose there is chance of the bomb squad blowing your shed up in one of those controlled explosions.....

An apology to Penyffordd Community Council
The other day I was suggesting that council was rewarding shoddy work.
I talk pants.
The opposite is in fact the case.
Contractors have carried out work around the clock tower.
Councillors are not happy with work standard in part.
Part payment has been paid, further payment will have been paid
subject to a site meeting with contractor with remedial work agreed
and carried out to council satisfaction..
Many thanks to Clerk Sarah for bring this to my attention.

Just so you know.
I hate what the Tories, Labour and the unelected EU have done to this country, economically and socially
Immigrants with no jobs who cost us 100's of millions, ditto those who do not want a job, the coming splitting up of the Union, the current state of the NHS, too many people here, people living here here who do not like us, red tape on business locally and nationally, the causing of millions to die siding with USA's petrol wars. ( Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya and Syria) That's the short list.
postscript: Allowing our banksters to bet billions with us picking up the tab when they failed.
Our annual interest payments (not the debt) are around a £100 billion a year.
You won't want to know what UK Ltd's exposure to derivatives are.
extra postscript: The goalposts need moving.
"The SNP has bagged 56 seats in the new Parliament, by getting 4.7% of the vote. UKIP got 1 (one) seat, as their return for polling 12.4% of the votes cast. The Liberal Democrats got 7 seats by winning 7.9% of the votes." The Slog

Council reward contractors for shoddy work?
142. Matters Arising
Minute 123 – The Clerk contacted Groundwork to advise that all correspondence
should now be dealt with herself. Groundwork confirmed that all outstanding work
had been completed, to which the Clerk informed all Cllrs and requested them to
view and advise if satisfied. However, a few days later Cllr Vidamour went to site
and the concrete around the crazing paving was loose and broken.
Cllr Vidamour feels that Groundwork should come and visit the site to view for
themselves the poor quality of the work.
It was resolved that the Clerk with request a morning site visit from Groundwork with
Cllrs S Davies and Vidamour for week commencing 9 March 2015.
The Chair suggested that due to the original work being completed last November
and the majority of the work completed to the Council satisfaction that we offer
Groundwork a part payment of £2000.00 with the remainder being paid on
completion. Cllr Weed advised the Clerk to ensure that there would be no legal
issues offering a part payment.
It was resolved that the Clerk will contact Groundwork with the proposal of a
£2000.00 payment immediately and the remainder on completion, however, if they
are not happy to accept this then the full payment will be made on completion.

Do I read Penyffordd Cllrs passed off work that subsequently turns out to be of poor quality?
Then gives company an extra £2000 plus more to fix it?

Penyffordd Wine Circle
A good turnout for a talk by Ray Jones of Chester on North Wales history. He covered our history between 2000 BC up to Henry VIII.
A most interesting talk with photographic stills which covered ancient bronze axes, the Roman, Saxon, Norman and English partial conquests of N Wales.
Also the Mold Golden Cape and mining in Flintshire.
The main thrust of his talks took in Wat's Dyke which runs close to Penyffordd and Offa's Dyke.

Short Cuts
Chester Rd is currently a short cut for road workings at Posthouse A483 /A55 which is 4 miles away.
Saying that Chester Rd has always been a shortcut for the Penyffordd Bypass something I think should be prevented.
A commenter on the 2nd previous post states that Taylor Wimpey are looking to buy up property on the Towers estate to make an extra vehicular access for the estate they are building.
This is wrong. Most certainly outside the planning permission.
Estates are made cul de sacs on purpose, its good planning practice.
This is bad for the Towers estate. Some drivers disregard all safety issues whether its dashing to work or doing the school run.
If there are going to be holdups at Penyffordd Butchers planning permission in its current form should not have been granted.
Anybody's thoughts?

How to become a Billionaire
No news day in Penyffordd. Its sunny and the morning speedy rush is well gone. It's like the tide, its here every workday.
Anyway Elon Musk's former wife has something to say.
"One reason they become the entrepreneurs they become is because they can't or don't or won't fit into the structures and routines of corporate life," she wrote. "They are dyslexic, they are autistic, they have ADD, they are square pegs in round holes, they piss people off, get into arguments, rock the boat, laugh in the face of paperwork."

A Chinese Surprise
No , not next door.
A mystery package from the postman with Chinese characters on the outside.
Its from Gary Wang of Guangzhou, Guangdong.
The package has about 30 seeds in it.
No invoice
Ordered sometime in the last month after a glass of red.
Mostly 99p wins.
After that we're guessing.
Are they tomatoes or peppers?
They're not strawberries.
A look though my Ebay purchase list.
Names of the sender and supply company can differ
Final solution, plant them in the propagator
and see what comes up.

Penyffordd Recycling Centre
We haven't got one of course.
Some would say why do we want one?
Moves are afoot to close the centre at Hope.
They want us to recycle our rubbish but they want us to travel further by car to do it, using more fuel.
The bus is out of the question of course.
I think residents should be able to swap rubbish at the tip if they choose. It's our rubbish. We should be allowed to skip dive, I'm often tempted lol.
A free mention in the local papers the outcome.
It helps to limit land fill. One person's rubbish another person's gold. It's how I make my living.
Instead recycling centres are built like prison camps with CCTV recording your every move. The council make a nice little earner on the scrap. They operate like Mafia.
For a long time now I've used Buckley Recycling Centre on the Spencer |Industrial Estate on Liverpool Rd. It can be got to via Wood Lane, Drury. It's a lot larger than Hope.
I don't recommend Saturday mornings ever.
I hate turning up with rubbish when the gates are shut and there's a queue
I think Queensferry is shut with Sandycroft being the one.
If you fancy a ride out into the country try Mold.
Aaron says closing sites will improve performance.
Aaron talks pants, he is however a very nice man.

Election News - Just fancy that !
Some of the more aware among'st you ( not me) may have spotted the Green Party election leaflet pushed through your door. The candidate Kay Roney.
Apparently The Green Party don't know their Delyn from their Alyn and Deeside.
Last time I looked Penyffordd was in Alyn and Deeside.
Kay Roney is standing for Delyn.
To be fair Delyn also has a Penyffordd something I need to check when looking for news for the village.

Penyffordd residents complain about access to new Health Centre
Not the one in Penyffordd silly !
We haven't got one.
One of the biggest failures of Penyffordd Cllrs of various persuasions over the last 30 years is the non establishment of a permanent health centre in Penyffordd. IMHO
I say this with 100% hindsight
The story is here
http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/146684/call-to-help-residents-get-to-new-medical-centre-in-buckley.aspx
I recently had to go for a 3rd time to get a prescription arranged. (not the above centre, the one across the road)
It had gone through my mind, the messing around if I did not have the use of a car.
A complaint to Betty (BCUHB) did not go down too well with office manager......

Penyffordd Temperance Society would not be amused.
I have to admire the larger ladies................
In fact I have to admire them all for taking the effort.

For me uncontrolled immigration is a big issue.
There are too many people in this country.
There are too many people using NHS resources for free who have never
contributed to it.
Doctors queues are ridiculous.
Non Doms? Couldn't give a monkeys.
A very large prison to be built that I do not want.
Too many kids going to university building up debts.
University should not be for nearly everyone
Some courses are a joke.
Too much tax on car fuel.
The main parties take too much notice of vested interests ( lobby groups)
Windmills are a token energy solution. The electricity they produce is expensive.
Which set of jokers to vote for?
Or perhaps not bother.

Vehicle Fire
Daily Post Tweet
VEHICLE FIRE: North Wales Fire service is saying a car was deliberately set alight last night at
Pen y Ffordd, in Buckley. There is 50% damage to the car which was a VW Golf. One fire engine was sent from Buckley.
I'm sure there will be more about this in the Daily Post tomorrow.
Further
Sources say it happened about 5am and was deliberate. The car is something of a tourist attraction. It must be all over social media. One young man in a car of 4 said "Glad it wasn't mine"

Speed News
NWP are launching a campaign against speeding bikers in N Wales. They wish to persuade them of the folly of their actions. Public relations exercise? I think so. A proportion of bikers come to N Wales to use it as a race track. Some have illegal exhausts which NWP completely ignore. I think it was last year when up near Llandegla on the A494. I couldn't understand why the bikers behind me were observing the speed limit and the Highway Code.
It became apparent later when looking at the Daily Post. About 20 bikers had been booked for speeding. This is the only language they understand NWP.
They are a nuisance and a menace. Our politicians all hide behind the settee on this one. Not one with any back bone.

More locally.
Drivers are speeding over the speed bumps at Chester Rd a major route to school. I think some are taking them at 40mph. My wife thinks not.
The profile of the static speed bump needs altering so that speeders are stopped. I don't think this will happen until a child or lollypop is run over.
If I was in charge of the village, through HGV would be banned and the only things flying through the village would be birds
