Penyffordd residents complain about access to new Health Centre
Not the one in Penyffordd silly !
We haven't got one.
One of the biggest failures of Penyffordd Cllrs of various persuasions over the last 30 years is the non establishment of a permanent health centre in Penyffordd. IMHO
I say this with 100% hindsight
The story is here
http://www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/146684/call-to-help-residents-get-to-new-medical-centre-in-buckley.aspx
I recently had to go for a 3rd time to get a prescription arranged. (not the above centre, the one across the road)
It had gone through my mind, the messing around if I did not have the use of a car.
A complaint to Betty (BCUHB) did not go down too well with office manager......

General Election with regards Penyffordd
Here below are I hope (you need to put your post code in the box) the candidates for Alyn and Deeside
http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/general-election-2015-find-seat-9018062
For me uncontrolled immigration is a big issue.
There are too many people in this country.
There are too many people using NHS resources for free who have never
contributed to it.
Doctors queues are ridiculous.
Non Doms? Couldn't give a monkeys.
A very large prison to be built that I do not want.
Too many kids going to university building up debts.
University should not be for nearly everyone
Some courses are a joke.
Too much tax on car fuel.
The main parties take too much notice of vested interests ( lobby groups)
Windmills are a token energy solution. The electricity they produce is expensive.
Which set of jokers to vote for?
Or perhaps not bother.

Vehicle Fire
Daily Post Tweet
VEHICLE FIRE: North Wales Fire service is saying a car was deliberately set alight last night at
Pen y Ffordd, in Buckley. There is 50% damage to the car which was a VW Golf. One fire engine was sent from Buckley.
I'm sure there will be more about this in the Daily Post tomorrow.
Further
Sources say it happened about 5am and was deliberate. The car is something of a tourist attraction. It must be all over social media. One young man in a car of 4 said "Glad it wasn't mine"

Speed News
NWP are launching a campaign against speeding bikers in N Wales. They wish to persuade them of the folly of their actions. Public relations exercise? I think so. A proportion of bikers come to N Wales to use it as a race track. Some have illegal exhausts which NWP completely ignore. I think it was last year when up near Llandegla on the A494. I couldn't understand why the bikers behind me were observing the speed limit and the Highway Code.
It became apparent later when looking at the Daily Post. About 20 bikers had been booked for speeding. This is the only language they understand NWP.
They are a nuisance and a menace. Our politicians all hide behind the settee on this one. Not one with any back bone.
Link http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-32176039
More locally.
Drivers are speeding over the speed bumps at Chester Rd a major route to school. I think some are taking them at 40mph. My wife thinks not.
The profile of the static speed bump needs altering so that speeders are stopped. I don't think this will happen until a child or lollypop is run over.
If I was in charge of the village, through HGV would be banned and the only things flying through the village would be birds

Flintshire County Council are hard up so we are going to have to pay more
If you look at your council tax rate schedule for the coming year you will notice the Penyffordd Community Council precept has increased by over 23%.
This sounds an awful lot. Someone I know is raising unnecessary blood pressure because of it.
Haven't got the sheet in front of me but it's about £25 for us in Band C. ( 50p a week)
Flintshire County Council and I suppose all other councils in UK are looking to make major savings
due to the greed of the banksters circa 2008.
This hangover will run for years.
Over the next 12 months organisations within the village will have the chance to take over community assets. Also Xmas street decorations, street lighting, playing areas will be transferred from county to village.
Hard times ahead unless villagers are willing to pay.

Traffic News
North Wales Police are holding high profile attendance in Penymynydd Rd, a major route to school. There must have been complaints of speeding over the speed bumps outside the school which has an advisory 20mph limit.
On Chester Rd, drivers are driving too slow for some. Drivers have been seen overtaking 4 cars on the bumps up towards Broughton.
Again an issue on why some drivers should have licenses.
I should point out that some drivers take the fixed speed bump at about 40mph.

To the doctors
I have an infection in the hearing dept which won't go away. The waiting list to see any doctor is 2 weeks.
Didn't ask about the list to see a particular doctor.
Decided to rough it at the open surgery 11am to 12.
One and half hour wait for a 5 minute consultation and an antibiotic prescription.
How did we get this bad?

Penyfforrdd Community Councillor Vacancy
Elected Councillor Joe Bell has been disqualified because he doesn't attend council meeting. Joe has been rather unwell for some time and should not have stood at the last election. ( keywords, sour grapes )
It would be fair to say a proportion of our active electorate would vote for the village clock or a sheep if asked to do so.
That's politics for you.
Details of how to apply for the vacant position are on the Council notice board outside the post office.
Next full community council elections will be in 2016.

Speeding
A week last Sunday I went to Northampton. I haven't been down the M6 for some years. The traffic was awful around Birmingham. A sign to me that there are too may people living in this country. The traffic horrendous.
There are now overhead gantry affairs every quarter mile around Birmingham with a speeding camera sign on them.
You ignore the speed limit at these gantries at your peril. On the other side of the gantry are a row of cameras to sense your speed. I was amazed at the number of drivers who were ignoring the speed limit. I thought they must know something I did not know. ie cameras were switch off. Silly me!
It would appear the many drivers I saw breaking speed limits will have been booked. The Treasury must be raking in money by the million.
Speed Awareness Course companies must be doing very well indeed.
An article in the ST were branding them stealth cameras. I thought this a bit silly as the speed camera sign was two foot square and reflective white. They also had a list of the top speeds for various cameras. 135, 140mph, etc.
Doing 50mph through road works with no road work being done was purgatory.

Wrexham Prison Survey
Glyndwr University are under taking a survey on the effects of the Wrexham Prison now being built.
Would have been nice for the WAG to carry out a survey before the decision to build the prison was made.
It was always a done deal. Democracy bypassed by Cardiff.
All those local Wrexham Borough Council members and local AM's, MP's who sat on their hands knowing this was going through should be voted against come the next elections in my view.
Make your views known.
The survey is anonymous excepting GCHQ having a look of course.
The survey in my opinion fair, you can even make comments to some sections.
It's a short survey.

Work on Penyffordd Medical Centre has started.
Ah! you think where is it?
It's in Hope on the main road on the left opposite the Indian Restaurant.
You may ask why does Penyffordd not have a medical centre?
An interesting question.
Looks like we missed the boat on this one.
To be fair to our elected representatives current and past, Betsi Cadwallader seem to be a law unto themselves.
There's always the Penyffordd Pharmacy..................
Or Wrexham Maelor A&E out of hours..............if you are particularly ill.
I should point out to those new in the village that our surgeries are in Broughton, Buckley and Hope.

Pro active policing in Penyffordd
A letter pops through the door from PC Hazel Goss MBE who is a Crime Prevention Officer at County Hall, Mold.
Hazel tells me there is increased crime involving the theft of motorcycles throughout Flintshire and Wrexham.
My brother's son who lives in London parked his motorbike behind my car on a few occasions last week. We were perhaps being a little lazy and should have made sure the bike was in front of the car and not behind in view from the main road.
It was wheel locked and alarmed, perhaps this isn't enough to stop theft.
Many thanks NWP for the heads up.

According to my Met Office page it is going to snow from now until the day after tomorrow. I hope it is not going to stick. Lets hope the forecast is wrong.
postscript: letters handed out to children's parents advising about snow conditions and school. The BBC saying its currently snowing in Penyffordd. The Met Office saying its going to snow on and off for 36 hours.

Further Driver Issues
* The A5104 in Flintshire is partially blocked after two accidents between Pontblyddyn and Penyffordd Roundabout, Penyffordd.
reported Daily Post.

The roads were bad this morning. Still plenty of drivers around who think they are immortal and accidents happen to other people.
They ( the roads) are also going to be bad tomorrow morning for work according to The Daily Post..

Parking in restricted areas
When Flintshire CC first took over policing of parking last year there was an initial flurry of fines for parking on yellow's in Penyffordd. Just to remind, traffic policing is still active. One old lady opposite Hope doctors was seen clutching a parking ticket. They are taking no prisoners.

A Happy New Year to All
What does 2015 hold?
Wrexham Borough Council to amalgamate with Flintshire County Council?
Will Penyffordd Community Council Website be run in a proper manner?

Hanson Cement Alleged Fallout
A Happy Xmas to all.
This week the windscreen of my car on at least two morning maybe three has shown a deposit that does not remove when windscreen washers and wipers are applied.
This is a classic sign of fallout from Hanson Cement.
As is the deposit appearing magically overnight.
Someone in the Post Office told me that certain parts of the village have received letters from Hanson Cement recently offering a free cleaning of their vehicles.
Why only parts of the village? My house was in the main zone for fall out when the previous plant was running.
I'm not looking for a free valete I just want my car to be free of cement fallout.
The new plant works well most of the time. What's the issue here?
Pushing the limits of the filtering system?
Production over environment?
Maintenance work not carried out?
Any further instances will result in an official complaint to Hanson Cement with copies to Penyffordd Community Council, Flintshire County Council and Natural Resources Wales.

The Weather
Horseshoe Pass closed till after lunch and loads of idiots on the A55. This snow stuff makes roads slippy apparently..................
The wintery weather caused the accidents not the idiots in the cars.

Penyffordd Pedestrian Improvements
Modifications to further slow traffic in the middle of the village. I salute those with vision. We do not have to be a fast short cut, we have a bypass.
postscript: This will upset those who come flying around the bend over the no go area.
Further postscript: How about compulsory 20 mph zones outside the Post Office and Spar?

Wrong Timing
So they want to pay Welsh AM's an extra 10 grand a year. This is at a time of zero hour contracts, employment migrating from full time to part time, declining job security, serious cuts to local services, poor NHS service, etc
They're taking the P aren't they.

Hanson Cement's Economic Barometer
I use the sign of emissions (mostly water vapour) from Hanson Cement as an indicator of national economic activity.
Haven't seen too many emissions lately or for that matter years but it appears the outlook may be getting better.

The decline of local newspapers, the way it is.
A good article on Deeside.com on the relationship between local government and local newspapers.
Also there are large losses in national newspapers such as The Guardian which loses about £50 million a year at present.

Dog Poo Dodge
I took a parcel to the Spar this morning. It was £5 (edit £7) cheaper to send than Royal Mail (over 2kg). You sign up with Click Plus online, pay, print off a sticker for the parcel then drop it off.
Between the Millenium Clock and the Spar which is less than 200yds there are 4 lots of dog mess that has been trodden along the path.
So its eyes down rather than straight ahead.
Rather impossible to miss in the dark...................

Remembrance Sunday
Penyffordd remembered those that fell today with the annual march. The weather has been kind this year.
An alternative view of the great wars is put forward below. In the comments section it is stated that WW1 didn't need to happen, that a million people volunteered to go to war in this country.

Bonfire Night for Penyffordd
All the good people of the village are building the bonfire. Weather forecast not bad. Showing chance of rain at 6, but its only a chance.
postscript. It's 4.30 pm, volunteers are still at it loading the bonfire. So that's nearly 8 hours and counting. Damping down after the bonfire will require effort past 8 this evening.

Housing Survey introduced by Cllr David Williams and my thoughts
Apols for the wonkiness of the scan. This is Hewlett Packard's attempt at intelligent automatic cropping.
If you have an opinion on this place it in comments or write to David on dwillderw@yahoo.co.uk
I agree with David on this issue.
Can I expect to get pensioner accomodation?..................................................lol
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts are do we wish to become a Broughton, or a Buckley?
I think the village is large enough, there is no need for us to become part of an urban sprawl from Saltney to Mold.
It's time to discourage population expansion. More people equals more trouble. Time to pay people not to breed. Time to stop payments for breeding.
Time to control immigration.
Time for our government to start governing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The survey is here. A Wrexham B.C. and Flintshire County Council initiative
https://www.keysurvey.co.uk/votingmodule/s180/f/693110/78c6/
I've tried filling in the form online but I've fell at the first fence. I'm a bit short of an ID number.
Apparently you can fill the form in by just putting in your Post Code, no need for an ID number..............................
"This is the on-line version of the 2014 Wrexham Council and Flintshire Council Local Housing Survey. Please work your way through the survey and select the answers that apply to you or to members of your household. Your answers are STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL and are protected under the 1998 Data Protection Act which places very stringent conditions on the use of the data. We appreciate that some questions are sensitive but it is not possible for the Council to link responses to individual addresses. Research is being undertaken by arc4 Ltd on behalf of the two Councils. Please type in the ID number printed on the front sheet of your questionnaire (this appears as a number with up to 5 digits (WHOLE NUMBERS) and allows us to match responses to neighbourhood only). Alternatively please insert your full Postcode (e.g. LA11 1AY Capitals and middle space). Thank you."
The form appears to be for those near retirement age. There are over 40 questions mainly click answers. Hopefully not looking for help in the next 10 years myself lol..........................

Parking at the Maelor
I notice someone on Wrexham.com mentions the difficulty of parking. I noticed this on Tuesday. You should allow extra time to find a spot. It's like Fred Carno's Circus at the moment.
Ellis the gamekeeper has passed away yesterday
For many years gamekeeper to Sir William Gladstone on his Hawarden estate. For years I tried to avoid Ellis on the Hawarden estate. This was in the restricted areas.
In June he was in the bed opposite me in the Evington ward at the Maelor. As one of the walking wounded I used to go and talk to him. Ellis in fact beat me to the door being discharged two days before myself.
Ellis had a keen interest in cockerels which he used to breed. One visitor to the ward came with the express purpose of persuading Ellis to sell him two cockerels.
A gentleman who will be sorely missed.
