A55 Dobshill - Something to look out for

A car towing a caravan was caught driving the wrong way along the A55.

Police received numerous 999 calls around 12:30pm after the vehicles were spotted on the A55, near Dobshill, heading towards Chester on the westbound carriageway.

Comment:
You have to be trying to do this with a caravan

Could you run the village panto?

If so contact Mr J Roberts for details

Penyffordd Village Amenity Potential Developments

A meeting has been arranged by PACA with Officers from Flintshire County Council  for Wednesday 30th April in the Youth Club commencing at 6pm.
This meeting is to discuss plans for the potential redevelopment of the Old School site including the Scout Hut and shower/changing facilities to accompany the new football pitch on the Wimpey development.   It is hoped that all local organisations with an interest in this potential redevelopment will be able to send a representative to listen to the officers' suggestions and to put their own views forward to the officers.
We very much hope that you will be able to attend along with any representatives from your organisation who also wish to attend.
Many thanks

Gosafe in the locality

Yesterday afternoon between Penyffordd headquarters (Penymynydd roundabout) and Bannel Driving Range. The speed limit is 40 mph. You may wonder where the van could have been situated? Yes you may well wonder......
It wasn't outside Tom's house. It wasn't in the driving range entrance.

Parking News

Apparently someone has been handed a parking fine for parking outside my house on double yellows yesterday at 3pm.

Late last year Flintshire County Council took over responsibility for illegal parking from North Wales Police.

I think we will see more parking fines in the village. Pity I cant get people booked who block my gate.

Sorry to dissappoint the minority, the parking fine wasn't for me.

I've been through two speed radar traps in Pantymwyn last week on the same day.....

Wrexham Borough is also a major test to keep to all speed limits

A chance to rid the village of lorries?

In a perfect run world lorries would use the bypass which was built especially for them.
Lorries would be banned from using the village except for access.

It would appear however our policy makers are far from perfect

A chance to make their way through the village impeded arises when the road is modified at the Chester / Hawarden Rd intersection.

The current hatched area should be built into a 2 foot high concrete block such as those protecting bridges on the A483. Signs at the entrance to village saying unsuitable for HGV's.

A start to stopping this daily abuse of our environment.

Inconsiderate Drivers continued.......

Or should I say inconsiderate people. Do you ever block someone's drive with your car then walk away some where?

Someone's done it to us twice in a week, blocking my car in the drive.

Longest period was 15 hours some years ago, had to call North Wales Police who got it sorted on a Sunday morning, well done!

I'm thinking of using wheel clamps ( carboot £10 )  and going for a two hour dog walk

Driving Gotchas

Apparently if you drive down Chester Rd to the Hawarden junction you can be undertook on the junction on the hatched lines near the Millstone.

Lets see the jokers try this when they put a 6 inch kerb there.
( The junction is going to be modified )

School Transportation Injustice

Whilst the majority of teenage school children go to Castell Alun, Hope on the school bus a minority are going to be forced to use Hawarden and Buckley Elfed schools. There will be no school. transport for them

The move is socially divisive for those involved and highly unfair.

Cllr Cindy Hinds is on the case. Flintshire County Council are being intransigent.

St John School Pelican Crossing Penymynydd Danger

Apparently drivers are going through on red lights endangering children and adults. Cllr Cindy Hinds has the authorities on the case.

What to do?

Video offenders, ban them for a year, put them in the local papers.

Will it happen? Don't hold your breath.

Deeside.Com

Looks a bit politically slanted but loads of county council stuff

Link http://www.deeside.com/

Jonathan Sheppard's reply

Hi folks thanks for posting our link, much appreciated.

Interesting bit of feedback regarding politics.

The site Deeside.com aims to be as politically agnostic from a traditional perspective however, our politics is that of 'Digital' and how society now has a greater opportunity to open up democracy to citizens like never before.

The point of the platform is to give people of Deeside a platform to scrutinise local government, AM`s MP`s etc, but its not the sole focus

For reference Deeside.com is not a commercial platform and has zero funding from any party, council or commercial media organsation, our 'sister' site is Wrexham.com

The main aim is to grow a non commercial news platform relevant to Deeside, given that the media we have currently is beating a rather quick retreat, indeed Deeside and Flintshire may in the not to distant future be served by only one print title, the Daily Post.

The perception around 'political slant' is perhaps because Connah's Quay is a hub of Flintshire politics which in turn is dominated by
Labour, therefore it is relvenat to the people of that community, and whilst we have reached out to ALL parties, indeed even offered 'blogging' space on the site, to date only Mark Tami MP, Carl Sargaent AM and the council leadership have responded positively and we have developed a good relationship with them.

Anybody can contribute to the site, so feel free to get in touch, this months hot topics:

Investigation in pollution and pm2.5 levels, Deeside incinerator, Fracking, and Councillor attendance levels at meetings, freedom of information requests, and data analysis of local statistics, as well as the odd dog poo story

The other day I said there was a for sale sign up at The Millstone.

It is now no longer there.

The pub was / is owned by Punch Taverns who bought a lot of pubs for an awful lot of money. There has been much much negotiation between Punch Taverns and the debt holders over the way forward.

ie. To pay off the debt which is billions.

I seem to remember Punch Taverns wanting to pay off the debts with pubs.

Chirk Carboot 2014

The King of Anglesey

Here holding forth on his throne is one of the main characters of the carboot all the way from Anglesey. Resplendent in his robes.
He's rather big in the Anglesey Masons hence the shades.

All who pass this stall are enlightened by his erudition and wit.

These two lads turned up 5.45am and were unable to command their normal space.
They don't go to bed on Saturday night.

Still on the small field but starting to get busy. The big field starts when the clocks go forward.

I came home with an impulse buy ( one of a few). An Open University Course in Chemistry.
A Science Foundation Course S102.
Chemicals, beakers, bunsen burner, scales, the lot.
All for £5
Arms were aching by the time we got back to the car.....

Village Vacancy - Clerk to Penyffordd Council / Financial Officer

In the post office window is an advert for the above post. A knowledge of county council procedure and a head for figures essential.

What is perhaps less known is that the clerk should advise councillors with regards to their behavior, being vindictive, unfair, etc ( I've read the manual )

An ability to deal with dictators essential.

Which is pretty hard when council politics decide who to choose and who to retain.....

Lorries taking short cuts through the village

Currently we have about 50 20 ton lorry trips a day through Chester Rd.

That's on top of normal lorry traffic. We are also a major training route for HGV Lorry Schools which are legion.

We have a bypass that has been especially constructed for heavy through traffic.
Why are through HGV traffic not banned from the village?

Well Tom, why do you think its ok?

Part of the general community council sclerosis?

Lorries are an anathema to village environment, unwanted noise and danger. They also bugger up the roads, grids and drains.

postscript: For those who dont know Cllr Tom Jones is political leader of the village. He must be 87 years old.

He shouldn't have been allowed to have carried on this long. He was paid off from being a county cllr a 100 years ago.

I also think Tom is an honorary member of the Traffic Haulage Association.

Flintshire - Water main work and temporary traffic lights on Penymynydd Road in Penyffordd near the Fammau View Drive junction.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks Graham for the heads up.

Perhaps this work is to stop water running down the road instead of down the drains whenever we have a downpour.

There is a ditch under Penymynydd Rd that runs under the path next to the Institute. It runs under Chester Rd down the farm lane then reappears next to the foot path in the field.

I saw a kingfisher along this stream last winter.

The road works on Hawarden Rd this last week were related to BT.

I think these roadworks will also be related to BT. The role out of Fibre within the village. Anyone with any info please use comments.

Renewable energy

Nothing much happening in Penyffordd except the weather.

I say that but the Penyffordd Panto is happening this weekend.

Large wind turbines that stand out like a sore thumb in our green countryside are mere tokenism and expensive tokenism at that which we are paying for in our energy bills.

Penyffordd's Resident Family Tree Expert

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/local-news/ask-expert-clwyd-family-history-6637370

As one gets older I suppose its natural to ask who one's relatives of the past were. Some families live local lives whilst others spread the globe. I'd done a little asking around but got very stuck on my father's side backwards.

Last December I had a surprise email asking me if I was so and so and was my father named Derek , David.

This has led to an opening up of the family history that goes back to the 1850's. This journey made possible by a distant relative has been very enlightening. A few photos with no names attached now have meaning. Including the one below. This is a photo of my grandad, grandmother, grandmother's sister, my dad and his brother.

has been the headline of the media this last few weeks.

It would appear that august body The EU are causing it.

Our Government and the WAG gold plating it
We're very good at gold plating stuff to do the country the maximum harm.
You would wonder who our civil service actually work for.

Perhaps I should be careful what I say but.....don't want to upset them.

BT contractors have recently connected Penyffordd Junior School with Fibre.
Or should I say dug trenches, run cable through to the Clock Tower and beyond.

One of my informants informs me BT will be connecting households in the Penymynydd Rd area to the fibre network.

There is currently  a little man working (update 3 men) in a box up Penymynydd Rd.

This should mean much faster internet and perhaps lower bills.

One presumes when it is all wired up we will be told.

We are however dealing with a public monopoly utility......................

The Liverpool Daily Post - The End

The above paper has closed today.

This is sad but a reflection of current and continuing harsh conditions being experienced by Main Stream Media. ( and every bugger else in the real world )

Penyffordd District continues to make vast profits.

Chester Rd continued flooding

Penymynydd Rd used to have a ditch running down the side next to the Institute. It then runs under the road, down to the stream next to the footpath.

This was then put underground with pipe.

Every time it rains hard the man holes lift spewing many 100's of gallons on to Chester Rd and into neighbouring properties.

Due to pressure from residents Dwr Cymru are on the case. Apparently they are going to put CCTV down the tubes. They do however have their suspicions.

Are Chester Rd residents who suffer the prospect of flooding with every deluge to have sanctuary?

What has Penyffordd gained?

Following on from the person commenting about fracking. It gets me to thinking.

Various individuals have gained greatly from developments within the village. We have Wellhouse, White Lion, Coed y Graig, Turkey Farm Phase 1 and 2 (Wimpey).

These areas have only been allowed to be developed because we live here, that's us residents of Penyffordd district.

What have we gained?

106 agreements to allow for education by ratepayers on the new housing I think are pants.
They will be paying rates for education anyway, they are a con.

So what have we really gained?

Do we have a right to gain anything?

I'll start it off in comments.

Fracking for Flintshire

Flintshire has underneath it vast mineral resources. Coal, limestone, etc.

The UK Gov have already / are going to issue licences to explore for gas and oil that can be extracted by fracking.

link http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/government-to-make-40-per-cent-of-britain-available-for-fracking-9011504.html

UK Gov are currently between a rock and a hard place over energy security due to sitting on their hands for the last 20 years.

Does this offer a way out?

Environmental concerns seem not to be an issue with those in power.

Penyffordd district in the 1800's was a very dirty place indeed with the extraction of oil from coal. There were numerous extraction plants between here and Mold.

The River Alyn would have been black.

Will fracking come to Penyffordd?

ps. I know an old lady who thought she was going to die. I suggested she see her doctor over the tablets she was taking. Yes, you guessed it, statins !

Stopped the statins, the awful bodily feelings went away.

It's time for Big Pharma not to able to influence doctors or government or to torture millions of creatures. The torturing of course a mandate by government.

This week the jokers (MP's) who led us into great debt (2008 and continuing ad infinitum) are demanding an extra £10k a year. We pay them to lead instead they acted like sheep.

Anyone who has any savings has paid greatly for our MP's folly.

Here's a man of substance.

He's my kind of person he speaks to frogs and insects.
Where this chap robbed from the banks to give to the poor
our leaders rob from the people to give to the banks for their gambling mistakes.

Nigel Jones' family turn on the Xmas Lights

Cllr Colin Bithell, chairman of the Penyffordd Community Council, said it was absolutely perfect to have Mr Jones’ family light up one of the new trees.

“They were Nigel’s idea,” he said. “The family were overjoyed to do it.”

Penyffordd will have three trees with the main one under the village’s Millennium clock.

Cllr Bithell said Mr Jones had suggested a tree would act as a central focal point for people to gather around and sing carols.

He said his friend had also been keen to help the council find ways of saving money.

“The lights were costing £4,000 each year, which was a lot for a small community,” added Cllr Bithell. “We thought it was a wonderful idea.

“We’re going to have three trees with this one in the middle of the village, under the clock – somewhere all the villagers can meet.”

Mr Jones’ daughters, Anna and Claire, son Rhys and grandson Cayo Jones attended the ceremony to switch on the lights.

Next time you go to your doctor

Perhaps you may wonder at his/her reluctance to forward you on for specialist attention.
Perhaps it doesn't happen in Wales?
Best I ask.

Lorry crash Penyffordd

LORRY CRASH: A lorry has banged into a Flintshire railway bridge and trains have been stopped for safety reasons. The incident happened on the A5104 in Penyffordd.
More will appear in The Daily Post ( to the right )

The bridge is fairly easy to miss. It's on a straight bit.
The road to Pontblyddyn one of the most dangerous in Flintshire.

The Lowlands

have been having a bad time.

The attractions of Penyffordd were that it was a small Welsh village, it was well up above sea level and the mother in law could not get here on the bus!

When I were a lad in Scroft in 62 I had to wear my wellies to walk up the street. This of course was due to global warming.

When they canalised the River Dee they made it so water could not reach Sandycroft. Perhaps some one had left the water defenses up so that the river flowed back up the ditch.

I also walked on the River Dee in 1962. This not through Sainthood but due to the fact that the ice was a foot thick. I'm named after my dad's brother who drowned in Chester Canal in the blackout during the war.

The gateman at Graessers was under instruction to ring dad if I was seen heading towards the river.
The ditch that ran parallel to the road a perfect hidden route.

The threat of corporal punishment could not cancel the lure of the river.
It was also possible due to sandbanks to wade the river to the other side at Sealand.

Been there, got the tee shirt, the folly of youth.

An email from one of my councillors

Good morning!

I really don't want to disturb you about this but I had no one else to turn to. I'm in Ukraine to see my cousin who lives here. she's critically ill and needs family support. She is diagnosed with (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) - a type of Blood Cancer in 2005 and she had been undergoing treatment since. The chemotherapy treatment was going fine until last week when the doctor noticed that the disease has relapsed and the only way she can survive is by undergoing a BMT (Bone Marrow Transplantation). My sister whose marrow matched she has agreed to be the donor and she will be undergoing the transplant soon at the Salvator Mundi International Hospital here in Kharkov, The estimate for the transplant is £6,000 GBP I have already spent approx. £3,500 GBP towards her treatment. Since the amount is huge, I request you to lend out a helping hand and support me with a loan of £2,500 GBP Since I don't know your financial status at the moment, any kind of help whatsoever will be deeply appreciated. Your help and support will give her a chance to live a normal life once again. There is nothing called a small help when the heart giving it is big. Any amount will be accepted with gratitude and paid back after the surgery. Please let me know how much you can loan me so that i can provide you with the details to get the money to me and, I will pay back as soon as I return.

Regards
