Two weeks of sun cue hose pipe bans

When I were a lad before global warming, summer holidays were wall to wall sunshine. N Wales has areas that have the highest precipitation levels in UK.

Why are we not creating more lakes and selling water? Employment, revenue what more do you want?

Postscript. Also when I were a lad (1963) the River Dee froze over and the ice was a foot thick and we had frosts for weeks on end and the ponds on the river bank made excellent ice rinks.

What's happening to Penyffordd Community Council website?

I still can't see any minutes just Latin infill.
Is this an example of how Penyffordd Community Council is run?

The minutes and agenda must be created in digital format.
Or are they still done on a typewriter?

It's many months now councillors still no minutes or agendas

£400 spent and all we have are some silly fir trees.

Some big foot dragging going on here.

In an hour I could put up a site with minutes and agendas for free, with no running costs.
It would be easy to maintain by councillors too.

You are looking very silly councillors.

Penyffordd Air Space

Not sure how many of you have time to look upwards. We have buzzards that soar over Penyffordd. Further up there is air traffic soon to increase when Penyffordd Airport opens.

Here's a live map of air traffic for UK
http://www.flightradar24.com/

If you hold your mouse over an aircraft symbol and click it you can see the aircraft's details.
Members of this site yesterday wondered why a Boeing Dreamliner was constantly flying around in a circle over North Wales. Apparently they were burning off fuel.................

Not a good sign if you are on board !

Thanks Ann for the heads up !

Charity Collections - I've had enough

It all seems very simple. Someone puts a bag though your door. You fill it full of unwanted to stuff. You leave it outside on the day of collection. Y Bont Charity left us a bag. So we put our collection in the bag inside the bag of the two other charities who had failed to pick up our collection.

It's still there this morning.

We're not up some lane we're in the middle of the village.

No more door step charities, bugger off stop wasting our time.

Raw Milk Locally

I like green top milk. It tastes bloody marvelous.  Skimmed and semi skimmed are crap full stop. How you can drink such stuff amazes me.

There are arguments that the fat removed from the above adulterations have to re added by the body to make it digestable

There is an article in the Independent today. As usual big business is out to cripple.
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/news/the-farmer-who-wouldnt-cowtow-rather-than-supply-supermarkets-and-face-financial-ruin-steve-hook-has-developed-a-market-for-raw-milks-8692664.html

I used to get it from Oultrams in Ewloe. It seemed all a bit under the counter.
Seems they are still going.
They are on the old main road between Ewloe and Northop Hall at the petrol station.
There is also a farm in Rhydymwyn details below.

Raw milk is not cheap because of government subsidy means farmers sell milk at a loss.
Work that one out will you!
( £1.50 - £2.50 per pint )

Good advice here.

You may wish to write to Mark Tami MP or Carl Sargeant AM to push for a fair outcome to this issue.

Betty Blanket

I buy and sell books and today came across a book about Caergwrle by John Trematick. John dedicates a whole page to one of Penyffordd's characters. We knew her as Betty Blanket as she would walk around the village draped in a blanket. Betty slept rough. She rubbed coal dust over her face. I once asked Lisa to make her some soup. Betty told her to F off !
I'm not exactly sure of the rules but I am told that as long as Betty did't take food off people the authorities could not legally hold her.

Tony Fish who had the chip shop next door reckoned she had an amazing constitution. Any one who can keep fish and chips down after they had been in the bin outside the chip shop for a couple of weeks had to have a strong stomach he would say. lol.

Didn't know she carried an iron bar around for protection though !

Here's John Trematick's take on the lady ! Click on image to enlarge.

Here today gone tomorrow

I was talking to a neighbour on Monday. He seemed right as rain, happy.
We talked at length about tomatoes. He said he always started them off on St Valentines Day.

Yesterday I am told he collapsed at the Penyffordd Bowling Green

I was told this morning that Eric Davies of Chester Rd has died.

Ordering Stuff off the Net

I'm an inveterate order clicker on Ebay and Amazon. ( so are our customers ) We've ordered a computer box for someone. She's got this mate whose talking about replacing motherboards etc. This is on an 8 year old computer which is very silly.
Hopefully open box, connect Dell computer to mouse, keyboard and net. Off we go with reasonably new technology loaded with a kosher copy of windows 7.

Recently had a silly experience with City Link. The bottom line is we were supposed to wait in for up to 10 hours for item to be delivered. Their nearest base is M56 Warrington. Can we pick it up?Photographic personal evidence required which we haven't currently got.
It was all "no can do"

As opposed to DPD.  Email this morning saying your parcel will be delivered between 9.30 and 10.30 am.

City Link have recently been taken over by a new company. And rightly so !

I play golf. There was a time 20 years ago when the likes of Wrexham had an 8 year waiting list to become a member and that was if you could get on it!

Things however have changed.

My club has asked members for loans last year.
This year everybody had to pay extra to their normal subscription.

Dennis the Menace in The Leader

Local Dennis Parry (a former council leader) the original whistle blower on child abuse in N Wales is still not happy about the current re investigation.

Read  The Leader

Tom not happy at being side lined

At 86 years old Tom its time you packed up.

Penyffordd residents are telling you so. Can you not see this?

Cllr Colin Bithell and other cllrs see sense on the issue.

The nuts and bolts (detail) are in The Leader.

I should point out that Cllr Tom Jones OBE ( aged 86 and half ) was head school governor at Penyffordd Junior School before the amalgamation was announced.

Last time I looked Tom was also a governor at Castell Alun at Hope our school for over 11's

The Airbus A350 makes its maiden flight

The wings are manufactured at Broughton in the newly constructed facility.

The wings are constructed  mostly out of carbon composites instead of aluminium alloys.

This makes for lighter aircraft and so less fuel is used.

Orders are already in excess of 600. This is good news for Penyffordd employment.

The Penyffordd Trout Tickler

Amongst us we have a villager who is skilled in the art of trout tickling. In his early days he would wade into a tributary of the River Dee up to his armpits in icy cold water and wait for sea trout to swim by. In the right circumstances it is possible to tickle the underside of the trout which makes the trout go into a trance. It is then possible to sweep the fish out onto the river bank.

The links below describe the process better.

Dog stealing

in The Daily Post

One might wonder why this that had happened previously was happening again.

Traffic calming modifications and Chester Rd drainage

This morning we've had our first real test with a downpour not forecast by The Met.  Surface water flowing down Penymynydd Rd and onto Chester Rd. Drains unable to cope as normal

Large amounts of water lift BT underground trunking system manholes and send surface water onto Chester Rd. The water enters BT trunking at some higher point in Penymynydd Rd.

The bungalows opposite which are built below Chester Rd level suffered minimal flooding. Excess water as per usual goes down the farm lane.

Water off the Institute field cannot be dealt with by new drainage..

My amateur opinion is that Penymynydd Rd / Chester Rd drainage is unable to deal with torrential downpours efficiently. Whether this is due to lack of  new infrastructure when the Tate and Wellhouse were built is open to debate.

I notice drains for the new White Lion development are going down towards Broughton.
This is good news for us at the bottom of the hill.

Seems other places suffered far worse.

Traffic Calming Comments

There have been a few comments with regards traffic calming in the village.

The comments are anonymous.
The calming has been described as useless.

Your arguments may carry a bit more weight if you :-

a. Say who you are. ( back it up with a proper address or email )
b. Say where you live.  ie Penyffordd
c. Say whether you live on a main road or in a cul de sac.

I think the majority of traffic has had to slow down. This in the main lessens traffic noise and improves safety for children, horses, OAP's and residents in Chester Rd.

There are of course the exceptions.

The next step in my opinion is to ban lorries. We have a bypass after all.
Penyffordd Cllrs in my opinion are to be applauded for taking difficult decisions.

Penyffordd does not have to be a race track or short cut.

Dobshill A55 Accident - A Regular Occurrence - 3pm

A van on its side

About four vehicles, one on its side.
Road shut. The number of idiots who come up the slip road wanting to come
on the A55 two abreast amazes me.
Not that I am implying that happened here. Anyway regular accidents here.
You have to join with caution. I find it best to come on at speed.
You can brake faster than you can accelerate.
Not a lot of people know that.

Time for road modification or just let them carry on crashing?

Too many planks on the roads.........

Chester Rd water problems continue

It's 9.50pm and Chester Rd is a hive of activity. A jcb loading road rubble onto a lorry, bang bang. Some problems with water outside the Post Office. Is this the 4th time in the last week they have dug the same piece of road up?

Will we be having brown water for the 4th time in the last week?
Last time we ran the cold water for 5 hours before it cleared.
We are prepared jugs full and a cold water tank full.

postscript. Not looking like water this morning. SP Energy on the case. Four white vans and a digger.

An Unusual Sight.

Driving past the railway station on the way to Pontbylddyn I nearly got stuck behind a horse and carriage pulling out of a driveway with a dozen people behind it. They were heading towards Padeswood Lake Rd where the animal rescue place is.
What was unusual was the carriage was black, the coach horses were black and the two occupants were dressed up similar to Count Dracula, makeup and all.

Just to confirm that I was not hallucinating when I got to Padeswood Lake Rd there were two people in high res with a large camera on a tripod similar to what movie makers or TV would use. They were waiting for the carriage.

Where were they going? No idea.

Google fails to come up with an answer.

The Boys from the Black Stuff get stuck in

Traffic Calming for beginners

Off we go ! It's just gone 8.30 am.
The tee junction platform laid down inside four hours.
Penymynydd Rd shut. Chester Rd on single lane traffic light.
This team know how to do their stuff.
The old man on the machine a master of this black art.
Poetry in motion.

Final main section being laid.
Cllr Bithell's favourite company involved.
I once put to a previous head of Hanson Cement that
traffic calming made with Hanson Cement
would be a good marketing strategy. Nearly got it any way.

A skim to finish off tomorrow.

Bolting down entrance ramps to platform.
Not severe enough for my liking.
Some cars just about ignoring them.

We shall see when all is finished.

From 2800 to Zero

In 2007 we had in the region of 2800 vehicles driving through Chester Rd every day even though we had a bypass.

Two thirds were breaking the 30 mph speed limit.

Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday there will be zero vehicles driving through Chester Rd as the road will be shut whilst the traffic calming platform is laid.

So from next Thursday onwards, no more buses, lorries, bikers or cars hammering along Chester Rd.

A safer place for children and residents.

In my opinion a big day for Chester Rd environment.

To those that are not happy I say use the bypass.

I will do a roll call of those who have helped along the way once the black stuff is down.

Danger Chester Rd 3 Way Traffic Lights

Be aware of green tractor with slurry tank. It goes through on Red.
( And others apparently)
I'm not talking amber gambler here I mean solid red for 30 seconds.

I have reported driver to NWP.  I and my wife have seen miscreant do this twice. Nearly hit a small silver car this morning. Did same thing this afternoon. Was behind him as he went through on red.

Looks like I will have to go to court for reporting this incident.

Cllr Cindy Hinds makes headway over Dobshill speed limits

Dirty Mile to be reduced from 50 to 40 mph.

20 mph Speed Limits within the village

Cllrs Clive Weed and David Williams have raised the issue of 20 mph limit zones within the village. This is most welcome especially near schools. Nigel is writing to FCC to clarify recent press statements regarding 20 mph limits in Flintshire.

Improving Penyffordd environment I think of large importance. We should be a village with a bypass and not a huge short cut for lorries and cars. Traffic calming now being constructed will help.

The Magic Car

Cars used to be quite straight forward. Faults reasonably easy to diagnose. Computers under the bonnet and  in the passenger space have changed all this.

Even main dealers get perplexed charging you an arm and a leg whilst not fixing faults.

I used to be able to turn and remove the ignition key whilst the engine continued running. To stop the car I had to open the nearside passenger rear door.

This has now stopped.

Today the car decided not to start at the petrol pumps. This happened after turning off engine to wait 5 minutes for the car in front.

Many thanks to the young man who offered to help me push car ( people carrier ) off court

It appears that turning the engine off without getting out the car causes the immobiliser to reset to on.

Googling Sharan and immobiliser issues shows many a nightmare.

You might also wonder how I found the faults causing the above. So do I !

Five miles away and maybe 500 ft higher. Anywhere south of Penyfford needs to be treated with caution when driving. Roads narrow to less than two car widths without warning.

White Lion Development

I am receiving comments to the effect that trees are being cut down in the reserved wild life area and that the wild life area is smaller than that agreed in planning.

Is this correct?

Tom Lawrence scores first goal for Wales Under 21s in Moldova win

The former Penyffordd Junior and Castell Alun High school student has been on the books of runaway Premier League leaders United since he was eight and was part of their FA Youth Cup winning squad in 2011.

Full story in The Flintshire Chronicle.

Wrexham Football Club need volunteers tomorrow

Wrexham Football Club is appealing for volunteers to help ground staff clear the Racecourse pitch of an estimated 11cm (4.3ins) snow from 08:00 GMT on Friday.

A statement on the club's website said volunteers should bring a spade with them "while any additional wheelbarrows will also come in very handy".

A Bad Year for Polytunnels

The white snow is where the polytunnel lies. A metal frame !

This one may pop up to something like its original shape as the hoops are plastic water pipe.

Still Best Not Go Out

Penymynydd Rd, Penyffordd end

There are people out in cars who have no idea. There is single file on whatever road you care to take.
For example one old buffer refusing to move or to try to accommodate other vehicles, expecting everyone else to get out of the way by reversing etc.

Lowlands are fine. ie Saltney, Chester.

Best not go out

The full chaos at the bottom of the page

Wood Lane Hawarden, cars abandoned nearly impassable

A55 open single file to Chester, you just have to get to it.

Wifey's car couldn't get out the drive.
Against my better judgement I've dug her out.
She is on her way to try to get to Chester.

Middle of the village, Corwen Rd, Penyffordd By Pass to Dobshill

Chester Rd Traffic Calming News

The contract firm are outside with plans. Kerb stone altering to start shortly. ( I asked )

Cllr David Williams sent me an email last week about the new Penyffordd Community website which I duly advertised on here and will put up a permanent banner shortly.

I in return asked David when Chester Rd traffic calming was starting.

As half  expected no reply.

Your behaviour David unacceptable as a village representative.
You may think you are being smart and clever but people with any intelligence see right  through you.

As a school teacher you have to deal with children but fail to
separate your actions and thinking when dealing with adults.

You lost a lot of votes last election. Some of which may be put down to electorate sentiment.
Many voters however saw your short comings.

Time to up your game and behave in a proper manner as a representative of  Penyffordd?

Ellen Cartner - Funeral

Why is the new Penyffordd Council website in Latin?

One commenter has asked the above question.
He wonders whether meetings are held in Latin.

Thanks to another commenter who informs that Latin is used as a filler until content is available. ie minutes, agendas, community group details, etc.

Competition Time: Can anyone spot the cannabis leaf?

Cllr Colin Bithell for Hawarden Airport Expansion

in The Leader

There will be plenty  more like Colin who wish to turn our environment into a crap hole.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regional Airport Searches

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/8977992/Local-airports-to-double-their-capacity-in-next-40-years.html

"A spokesman for the Campaign to Protect Rural England added: “It is not just that airport expansion of this scale would trample over villages and sprawl across Green Belts. All the extra flight paths needed would criss-cross the countryside so much that by 2050, trying to find tranquillity in much of the English countryside could become as hard as looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Penyffordd Brownies cooking on gas after Deeside Round Table donation

Penyffordd Public Relations are non existent

I might be in the Leader today or maybe tomorrow lol. If local media are looking for a quote I am usually available.

But what about about Penyffordd Cllrs? Are they quite happy for Penyffordd to be at the end of the runway for RyanAir or Easyjet?

Penyffordd Community Council are never up for a quote (can't be contacted and don't want to be)  except for Cllr Colin Bithell bashing Hanson Cement.

Time for Penyffordd Community Council to enter the 21st century?

Perhaps we have to wait for dinosaur Cllr Tom Jones (aged 86 and a half ) to stand down.

Media cooperation is a two way street when done properly rather than just ignored.

-----------------------------------------------

It should be mentioned that the Welsh Assembly Government are keen for Hawarden Airport development.

Why not have an airport down the coast at Llandudno or Anglesey, Carl?
It's a lot more central and no where near here.

You could even give it a Welsh name instead of an English one.

Penyffordd Community Council Website

is now up and running at http://www.penyfforddareacc.com

The site is still in its developmental stage and I'm sure Penyfforrd Community Council will welcome your feedback and constructive suggestions.

Council agenda and minutes will be published regularly.

This will be a welcome move towards local government transparency and democracy.

Penyffordd Cllrs who have pushed for this development are to be congratulated.

Penyffordd Airport

in The Daily Post.

" North Wales Conservative AM Mark Isherwood has backed the idea of a north-south air route between Hawarden and Cardiff."

Quite good for Mark travelling to Cardiff on AM work. Not so good for us if planes fly over Penyffordd.

How long until Ryan Air or Easyjet pay an interest?

POSTSCRIPT : I'm going to be in the paper over this. I think local communities are sleepwalking into a major environmental disaster. Hawarden, Kinnerton, Penyffordd, etc.

If nothing else it will knock tens of thousands off their house prices if this project takes off. The airport project has had previous incarnations. This time I think things may be different. There is major pressure on the likes of Manchester. Regional airports will expand to take the strain.
