Traffic Calming Comments

There have been a few comments with regards traffic calming in the village.

The comments are anonymous.
The calming has been described as useless.

Your arguments may carry a bit more weight if you :-

a. Say who you are. ( back it up with a proper address or email )
b. Say where you live.  ie Penyffordd
c. Say whether you live on a main road or in a cul de sac.

I think the majority of traffic has had to slow down. This in the main lessens traffic noise and improves safety for children, horses, OAP's and residents in Chester Rd.

There are of course the exceptions.

The next step in my opinion is to ban lorries. We have a bypass after all.
Penyffordd Cllrs in my opinion are to be applauded for taking difficult decisions.

Penyffordd does not have to be a race track or short cut.

Dobshill A55 Accident - A Regular Occurrence - 3pm

A van on its side

About four vehicles, one on its side.
Road shut. The number of idiots who come up the slip road wanting to come
on the A55 two abreast amazes me.
Not that I am implying that happened here. Anyway regular accidents here.
You have to join with caution. I find it best to come on at speed.
You can brake faster than you can accelerate.
Not a lot of people know that.

Time for road modification or just let them carry on crashing?

Too many planks on the roads.........

An email from Cllr David Williams

To myself and Cllr Clive Weed. This is something a little unusual. I was under the impression I was down as "don't bother with, he's an idiot, he's only one vote"

But wait.............

Chester Rd water problems continue

It's 9.50pm and Chester Rd is a hive of activity. A jcb loading road rubble onto a lorry, bang bang. Some problems with water outside the Post Office. Is this the 4th time in the last week they have dug the same piece of road up?

Will we be having brown water for the 4th time in the last week?
Last time we ran the cold water for 5 hours before it cleared.
We are prepared jugs full and a cold water tank full.

postscript. Not looking like water this morning. SP Energy on the case. Four white vans and a digger.

An Unusual Sight.

Driving past the railway station on the way to Pontbylddyn I nearly got stuck behind a horse and carriage pulling out of a driveway with a dozen people behind it. They were heading towards Padeswood Lake Rd where the animal rescue place is.
What was unusual was the carriage was black, the coach horses were black and the two occupants were dressed up similar to Count Dracula, makeup and all.

Just to confirm that I was not hallucinating when I got to Padeswood Lake Rd there were two people in high res with a large camera on a tripod similar to what movie makers or TV would use. They were waiting for the carriage.

Where were they going? No idea.

Google fails to come up with an answer.

A380 Flight Simulator

If you want to fly an A380.

Now you can.

Yours for a mere £400.

The link is at the bottom of the article. The comments section worth a read. The A380 appears to be too big for airports and too many passengers to process at present.

The accident waiting to happen

Hawarden Rd passed the Spar is a bad place. Sitting outside whilst Lisa picks up supplies I have witnessed various near misses. Yesterday the inevitable happened.

Saying that this was a middle of the night job not much traffic !

To Penyffordd Wine Society for wine tasting

A good night that was very well attended. Arwel from Gwinology in Mold gave a very interesting talk on various wines. Members and guests sampled the above wines. Hazel and Maureen laid on a very good spread.

One might notice the spitoon on the end of the table.
Some of us thought such an item a waste lol.

The Boys from the Black Stuff get stuck in

Traffic Calming for beginners

Off we go ! It's just gone 8.30 am.
The tee junction platform laid down inside four hours.
Penymynydd Rd shut. Chester Rd on single lane traffic light.
This team know how to do their stuff.
The old man on the machine a master of this black art.
Poetry in motion.

Final main section being laid.
Cllr Bithell's favourite company involved.
I once put to a previous head of Hanson Cement that
traffic calming made with Hanson Cement
would be a good marketing strategy. Nearly got it any way.

A skim to finish off tomorrow.

Digging out water manholes.
Bolting down entrance ramps to platform.
Not severe enough for my liking.
Some cars just about ignoring them.

We shall see when all is finished.

From 2800 to Zero

In 2007 we had in the region of 2800 vehicles driving through Chester Rd every day even though we had a bypass.

Two thirds were breaking the 30 mph speed limit.

Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday there will be zero vehicles driving through Chester Rd as the road will be shut whilst the traffic calming platform is laid.

So from next Thursday onwards, no more buses, lorries, bikers or cars hammering along Chester Rd.

A safer place for children and residents.

In my opinion a big day for Chester Rd environment.

To those that are not happy I say use the bypass.

I will do a roll call of those who have helped along the way once the black stuff is down.

The black tie evening will be held next Saturday, April 20, at Clawdd Offa Farm in Penyffordd from 7pm until 12.30am.
Ben Newell from the Tents and Events said: “My mother Sue suffered a heart attack September. This is a way I can say thank you to all the staff who helped.

Danger Chester Rd 3 Way Traffic Lights

Be aware of green tractor with slurry tank. It goes through on Red.
( And others apparently)
I'm not talking amber gambler here I mean solid red for 30 seconds.

I have reported driver to NWP.  I and my wife have seen miscreant do this twice. Nearly hit a small silver car this morning. Did same thing this afternoon. Was behind him as he went through on red.

Looks like I will have to go to court for reporting this incident.

Cllr Cindy Hinds makes headway over Dobshill speed limits

Dirty Mile to be reduced from 50 to 40 mph.

20 mph Speed Limits within the village

Cllrs Clive Weed and David Williams have raised the issue of 20 mph limit zones within the village. This is most welcome especially near schools. Nigel is writing to FCC to clarify recent press statements regarding 20 mph limits in Flintshire.

Improving Penyffordd environment I think of large importance. We should be a village with a bypass and not a huge short cut for lorries and cars. Traffic calming now being constructed will help.

Dog Bakery Business in Penyffordd

A WOMAN has launched a bakery business - for dogs, after years of making canine treats at home.

Sharon Ludgate, of Penyffordd, sells a wide range of homemade goodies including snacks to tackle bad breath and even birthday cakes for dog owners to spoil their beloved pets.

Redrow Marketing on the White Lion Development

I personally think if your building in Wales developments should have Welsh names. Not Englishised by Redrow and Taylor Wimpey. It should be WAG law. Otherwise no planning permission.

The Millstone

Roll up, roll up for another mug. Paint tins in the Millstone. Must be having a quick lick of paint before re opening.

I'm not sure what the new tenants think they can bring to make the Millstone a going concern. Six previous tenants failed.

One hopes they are not relying on UK PLC having turned the corner into a new era of prosperity.

Good luck to the new tenants.

The Magic Car

Cars used to be quite straight forward. Faults reasonably easy to diagnose. Computers under the bonnet and  in the passenger space have changed all this.

Even main dealers get perplexed charging you an arm and a leg whilst not fixing faults.

I used to be able to turn and remove the ignition key whilst the engine continued running. To stop the car I had to open the nearside passenger rear door.

This has now stopped.

Today the car decided not to start at the petrol pumps. This happened after turning off engine to wait 5 minutes for the car in front.

Many thanks to the young man who offered to help me push car ( people carrier ) off court

It appears that turning the engine off without getting out the car causes the immobiliser to reset to on.

Googling Sharan and immobiliser issues shows many a nightmare.

You might also wonder how I found the faults causing the above. So do I !

Chester Rd Traffic Calming News

The contract firm are outside with plans. Kerb stone altering to start shortly. ( I asked )

Cllr David Williams sent me an email last week about the new Penyffordd Community website which I duly advertised on here and will put up a permanent banner shortly.

I in return asked David when Chester Rd traffic calming was starting.

As half  expected no reply.

Your behaviour David unacceptable as a village representative.
You may think you are being smart and clever but people with any intelligence see right  through you.

As a school teacher you have to deal with children but fail to
separate your actions and thinking when dealing with adults.

You lost a lot of votes last election. Some of which may be put down to electorate sentiment.
Many voters however saw your short comings.

Time to up your game and behave in a proper manner as a representative of  Penyffordd?

Cllr Colin Bithell for Hawarden Airport Expansion

in The Leader

There will be plenty  more like Colin who wish to turn our environment into a crap hole.

Regional Airport Searches

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/road-and-rail-transport/8977992/Local-airports-to-double-their-capacity-in-next-40-years.html

"A spokesman for the Campaign to Protect Rural England added: “It is not just that airport expansion of this scale would trample over villages and sprawl across Green Belts. All the extra flight paths needed would criss-cross the countryside so much that by 2050, trying to find tranquillity in much of the English countryside could become as hard as looking for a needle in a haystack.”

Penyffordd Public Relations are non existent

I might be in the Leader today or maybe tomorrow lol. If local media are looking for a quote I am usually available.

But what about about Penyffordd Cllrs? Are they quite happy for Penyffordd to be at the end of the runway for RyanAir or Easyjet?

Penyffordd Community Council are never up for a quote (can't be contacted and don't want to be)  except for Cllr Colin Bithell bashing Hanson Cement.

Time for Penyffordd Community Council to enter the 21st century?

Perhaps we have to wait for dinosaur Cllr Tom Jones (aged 86 and a half ) to stand down.

Media cooperation is a two way street when done properly rather than just ignored.

-----------------------------------------------

It should be mentioned that the Welsh Assembly Government are keen for Hawarden Airport development.

Why not have an airport down the coast at Llandudno or Anglesey, Carl?
It's a lot more central and no where near here.

You could even give it a Welsh name instead of an English one.

Penyffordd Airport

in The Daily Post.

" North Wales Conservative AM Mark Isherwood has backed the idea of a north-south air route between Hawarden and Cardiff."

Quite good for Mark travelling to Cardiff on AM work. Not so good for us if planes fly over Penyffordd.

How long until Ryan Air or Easyjet pay an interest?

POSTSCRIPT : I'm going to be in the paper over this. I think local communities are sleepwalking into a major environmental disaster. Hawarden, Kinnerton, Penyffordd, etc.

If nothing else it will knock tens of thousands off their house prices if this project takes off. The airport project has had previous incarnations. This time I think things may be different. There is major pressure on the likes of Manchester. Regional airports will expand to take the strain.

A Penyffordd Skate Park

The comment below  has been made on a previous blog about a skate park for Penyffordd. The comment deserves better illumination so I have copied it here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry but I know that a lot of people are concerned that the skate park would be anti-social or attract 'yobs' as us teenagers are referred to nowadays, but the fact is that what would you rather, a place where kids and teenagers can meet up to learn and practice their hobbies or would you rather them skating all over the streets and making noises outside your house. The teenagers around here have no where to go to do this unless we are expected to walk a decent 2 miles everyday to the nearest skate park which would be Buckley, a lot of villages around here have a skate park already and a lot of people love it.

I see that we have a football cage and basketball court for everyone to play on but what about the teenagers who bmx or skateboard or kids who scooter? why shouldn't we have a place to be able to go and have some fun instead of getting shouted at by making too much noise on the streets? I think a skate park in the village would be a fantastic idea and many people would enjoy it as it would be a great social place for everyone to meet up and practice doing what they enjoy.

Also the skate park could easily be fitted onto the Millstone park land, or even the actual millstone garden which is currently not being used at all. As it is no where near houses, and if some people are concerned that the noise will continue late at night, just make sure that the skate park would not have floodlights in so when it goes dark the skate park wont be used so no noise would be made after dark.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Noise Level in communities

My campaign to slow traffic hammering through Chester Rd daily is partially driven by noise levels. An extra 10mph nearly doubles vehicle noise. Hopefully shortly traffic calming will slow down traffic which will make less noise. Chester Rd levels are between 2000 - 3000 vehicles a day.

Short cut traffic that uses the village instead of Penyffordd Bypass I estimate to be about 1000 vehicles a day. There is also the issues of lorries which cause much noise. This week lorries have been coming through the village at 30+ a day due to quarry materials from Grianrhyd being used somewhere north of Penyffordd.

There is also the traffic noise from Penyffordd Bypass which is far more than any noise that comes from Hanson Cement. This however is conveniently forgotten by certain cllrs with a grudge against Hanson.

The Welsh Assembly Government for some time have been putting a noise map together on the instructions of the EU.

One thought arises. Will the new Wood Lane estate help to block traffic noise off the bypass?

Penyffordd British Legion presents........

Something to look forward to on these grey days - God's Country

Allotments and Primary Schools

Last Penyffordd Council meeting Cllr David Williams was due to meet the headmaster of Penymynydd Junior School over the placement of the new allotments next to his school. The passing of the allotments application appeared to happen without the headmaster knowing.

The headmaster was/is not amused.

Penyffordd District Solution.

At present there is a move towards joining the two Penyffordd Junior Schools together. Perhaps if this is stretched to include Penymynydd Junior School we save the cost of a further schoolmaster and have no further problems over the ( planning passed ) extra allotments lol

Lorries

Cllr David Williams in his most recent newsletter mention lorries taking short cuts. David talks about them being offenders but this is not so, they are doing nothing illegal.
Still he's one of the only cllrs to raise this issue. He is to be commended.

When Penyffordd Bypass was built our wise elders should have pressed to ban lorries from the village. They did not, perhaps they are mates of the local Haulage Association or perhaps its one of those Masonic things.

The main roads are built to A road specification as ex main roads but are now C roads.

Not A roads, B roads but C roads

We have a bypass, this should be the route used by lorries.

Hanson Cement and their sub contractors do not come into the village as a token of their support or our environment. They are to be congratulated.

Hollingsworth Bros use the village as a short cut. Their drivers have little respect for the village. I think pressure can be put on Hollingsworth not to use the village. They are currently doing a project for Airbus. They are most probably on the list of contractors for the WAG and FCC. There lies the leverage for contracts.

When local contracts are happening there can be 40 lorries a day through the village.
We are the short cut between quarries and the A55.

Deeside Metals use the village at least 4 times daily. No lettering on their skips.
Airbus and Magellan Aerospace use the village.

Lorries could be banned from the village except for access. NWP have to be involved unfortunately. Their first words will be it's unenforceable. Which is wrong because it is with help from residents and the local media.

So carry on David. lets make the village environment better.

You thought you were eating horse

Apparently you may have been eating donkey too.
I've wondered if they've been messing with my pork sausages  !

A lot of people would give up meat after visiting an abattoir.

I've tried macrobiotic, fruitarian, vegetarian, fasting.

Try a week without any food. Better still try 10 days.
The mental clarity and energy is astounding after you get over the headaches. lol

ps. My wifey is a veggy.

The Millstone - Further Sign of the Times

There is a notice outside The Millstone saying they are closing on Sunday thank you for your custom.
Pubs face a number of issues including social change and the cost of beer.

This will however not stop someone else having a go.They might wish to consider why the last ( is it 6 landlords? ) in the last 5 years cannot make The Millstone a going concern.

If you wish to waste your money perhaps you should draw it out the bank and set fire to it. A lot quicker without the thankless toil of running a business model  that has run it's time in many cases.

The amounts of money to go into the Millstone and the monthly payments are eye watering.

I could make a prediction with regards another hostelry that sells alcohol in the village. It will be perhaps unfair and make me more unpopular.

Note: As far as I am aware Punch Taverns own the Millstone. They have rather a lot of debt. In fact it is billions. They operated an aggressive pub company buying policy before the crash.

Penyffordd Health Care Comment

It's not  my comment really. Carole Malone in The Mirror says it all perfectly.
People responsible for the hospital tortures need to be made to pay. From the top down.

Penyffordd Community Council Meeting Feb 2013

Tomorrow night at The Institute. All are welcome to attend. On the agenda, new allotments, dog fouling, the council take over from NWP of  illegal vehicle parking, the continuing battle of Stryt Isa where a building is having to be pulled down for having no planning permission. Don't know the details but Flintshire Planning deal with quite a lot of retrospective permissions. As someone once said you can't beat city hall.

Worried Penyffordd Resident - Night Helicopters

Anonymous wrote 25 Jan 2013 09:19:00

A little worried at 3am this morning helicopter hovering over the bottom of Rhos Road for about 1 hour. It looked like an army one - very loud and search light over fields by Stryt Issa?

Could you please advise - very worried homeowner. "

North Wales Floods

Sitting up here in Penyffordd on the hill one might think what was all the fuss about over flooding.

Penymynydd Rd and Chester Rd turned into minor rivers.

In the Daily Post link below are pictures taken on the A55 and various villages. The pictures are horrendous.
The A55 looks to be under 6 foot of water in places. Turned into a canal.

It's the slide show pictures not the photo taken after the floods had subsided.

The state we are in

Apparently we are heading for a triple dip recession. Although the claim in the Telegraph that what is currently being experienced is worse than the Great Depression. I didn't think I would see the day when I would regard the Telegraph as a comic book.

The government are taxing us to the hilt.

Heating prices keep going up.

Food prices keep going up.

Pensions and savings are being devalued in large amounts by quantitative easing.

We have torture in hospitals (eg  Ann Clwyd MP husband )
1200 deaths in Stafford Hospitals that are not explained
Health Minister says there's plenty of Stafford treatment happening around the country.

Petrol diesel going up yet again 5p

Average debt for self employed is four times yearly profits. ( Don't know whose carrying my debt )
Self employed and small businesses employ an awful lot of people.

Pubs and shops are closing wholesale

Bankers have been allowed to get away with wholesale robbery by the billion
left to me and you the tax payer to pick up the tab. No one is going to jail all have had golden goodbye deals

We have an unknown quantity of Bulgarians and Romanians invading the country shortly
Immigration do not know how many are coming. They will all require a roof over their heads, free medical care and spending money ( your taxes )

We have police forces asking Google to remove criticism of them. Google has said quite rightly, take a running jump.

We have three quarters of our MP's who feel they deserve an extra £20k a year.

Our PM calling for top firms to wake up and smell the coffee

He doesn't know what day it is !

I'll leave it at that !

The ever increasing cost of energy

Below is a link to an individual who has lowered his gas usage in 7 years by over 80% without changing his gas boiler.

The gas bill in this household is currently under some debate. We have an old house, a large boiler and air leaks around doors etc,

The aim being to reduce gas usage in this house by 80% in one year. Using both solar and biomass ( wood to you and me ) Work is already three quarters done.

The site below has a lot of information.

Call for police to crack down on Penymynydd rat run

Locals are concerned that the access-only road Penymynydd Road in Penymynydd, near Mold, has become a dangerous rat run and rules are not being enforced properly.

Just Fancy That !

“THIRTEEN years ago, the politically influential Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia – the leading scaremongers about man-made global warming – warned us that within just a few years “children just aren’t going to know what snow is” and that it will be “a very rare and exciting event”. Last week, a foot of this mythical snow stuff closed 3,000 schools, triggered power cuts, shut airports and caused chaos on the roads. As it did last year. And the year before that.”

The long term aim being to bring both schools under one roof.

Well stops work

Progress on the Post Office cafe construction has had a hick up. A 300 year old well has been found on site.

The well has to be capped.

Capping of holes in Flintshire in the past was a regular operation. There are many hundreds if not thousand of holes that were dug to extract coal. I know of one old lady who played merry hell when coal board contractors turned up to cap the hole that was outside her kitchen window. The lady had been dumping her rubbish down it for years. All she had to do was open the window. The house had been built within feet of the coal shaft.

The Rains

Today Penymynydd Rd drains as per usual are failing to deal with persistent downfalls. I think there is a partial block at Chester Rd / Penymynydd Rd junction or the pipe system inadequate ( most probably the latter).

Global Warming is like religion for some people. Here's an article that might disappoint you if you are a pro global warmer. ( best not to read perhaps )

A Roman Fort just around the corner

I got in trouble last time I said this project was near Penyffordd. Anyway the project moves a step closer. Will we see a Roman Legion marching through the streets of Penyffordd?

Those on Anglesey didn't think too much of them. Although they brought civilisation the Romans did not tolerate opposition.

If you wish to get involved in the project, you can.

Deep Cleaning

In the Leader there is an article on a deep clean operation for Wrexham Bus Station. There is also need for a deep clean outside the Legion on the pathways on Chester Rd one of the main thoroughfares for village folk. Dog muck smeared everywhere, chewing gum, fried rice, etc.

Perhaps put the semi covert cctv back up on the lamp post and catch a few dog owners as well?

Penyffordd Community Council Meeting

Tomorrow night Wednesday at the Institute at 6.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Amongst the items on the agenda is " nefarious activities" in Rhos Rd / Tower Way.

Take your pick from the following :-

----------------------------------------------------------------------

ne·far·i·ous
/niˈfe(ə)rēəs/

Adjective
(of an action or activity) Wicked or criminal: "the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates".

Synonyms
wicked - villainous - vile - infamous - mean - evil

Spring is with us

Notes

10 degrees of temperature, birds singing, buds forming on bushes, the large bulb I found discarded at the boot sale sprouting leaves.

Give the scientists a pay rise I'm sure they can find out some more about global warming.

All will be kicked into touch when the cold returns.

I've just picked some red hot peppers off a bush in the greenhouse.

Talking of peppers now is the time to plant seed with bottom heat and some top light.

This years project amongst other is a kitchen garden. No lettuce or herbs to be bought this coming year.

Perhaps David Williams' allotment for the village will finally find take off now he finally has planning consent. It's been a long struggle through the quicksand of procedure, silly people and red tape.

Sign of the Times

One day less fan noise and odor per week. A late Xmas present for moi.

The above is an indication how private business which pays all the taxes for
health, social welfare, etc is struggling.

Spain is currently spending all its pension money keeping the bond market going.
Spain is too big to bail out.
The situation in Greece is dire ( my brother lives there)

The main stream media  will try to talk the situation up during 2013. The actualitee is totally different.

Less demand equals less jobs. Only Airbus is bucking the trend.
Motorcar manufacturers must be having a nightmare.
So too, anyone involved in retail.

Food prices are going up because of flooding.
Energy prices are going up large amounts which again affects everything
including food.

All due to the bankers, the profiteers and our governments.

Is anyone going to jail for the above situation?
I think not.

Penyffordd's Father Christmas finally caught on camera

competing the around the Chester Wall's Race on Boxing Day.

Brian Wareing still a regular jogger and fund raiser seen jogging around Penyffordd even though he is well into  his senior years. The beard his trade mark is real not a fake.

The Round the Walls always something I thought about doing but didn't.
My best time for a marathon 3 hours 23 minutes. Colin Lolly Pop is an ex jogger as well.
Colin's best times significantly better than mine, nearly of athlete standard.
