Penyffordd railway line turned into a river

A Network Rail spokesman said that the line was closed between Penyffordd and Buckley when a train driver reported flood water rising rapidly on the line.
Pictures at the scene showed that the line had been turned into a river.

Worried Penyffordd Resident - Night Helicopters

Could you please advise - very worried homeowner. "

North Wales Floods

Sitting up here in Penyffordd on the hill one might think what was all the fuss about over flooding.

Penymynydd Rd and Chester Rd turned into minor rivers.

In the Daily Post link below are pictures taken on the A55 and various villages. The pictures are horrendous.
The A55 looks to be under 6 foot of water in places. Turned into a canal.

It's the slide show pictures not the photo taken after the floods had subsided.

The state we are in

Apparently we are heading for a triple dip recession. Although the claim in the Telegraph that what is currently being experienced is worse than the Great Depression. I didn't think I would see the day when I would regard the Telegraph as a comic book.

The government are taxing us to the hilt.

Heating prices keep going up.

Food prices keep going up.

Pensions and savings are being devalued in large amounts by quantitative easing.

We have torture in hospitals (eg  Ann Clwyd MP husband )
1200 deaths in Stafford Hospitals that are not explained
Health Minister says there's plenty of Stafford treatment happening around the country.

Petrol diesel going up yet again 5p

Average debt for self employed is four times yearly profits. ( Don't know whose carrying my debt )
Self employed and small businesses employ an awful lot of people.

Pubs and shops are closing wholesale

Bankers have been allowed to get away with wholesale robbery by the billion
left to me and you the tax payer to pick up the tab. No one is going to jail all have had golden goodbye deals

We have an unknown quantity of Bulgarians and Romanians invading the country shortly
Immigration do not know how many are coming. They will all require a roof over their heads, free medical care and spending money ( your taxes )

We have police forces asking Google to remove criticism of them. Google has said quite rightly, take a running jump.

We have three quarters of our MP's who feel they deserve an extra £20k a year.

Our PM calling for top firms to wake up and smell the coffee

He doesn't know what day it is !

I'll leave it at that !

The ever increasing cost of energy

Below is a link to an individual who has lowered his gas usage in 7 years by over 80% without changing his gas boiler.

The gas bill in this household is currently under some debate. We have an old house, a large boiler and air leaks around doors etc,

The aim being to reduce gas usage in this house by 80% in one year. Using both solar and biomass ( wood to you and me ) Work is already three quarters done.

The site below has a lot of information.

Call for police to crack down on Penymynydd rat run

Locals are concerned that the access-only road Penymynydd Road in Penymynydd, near Mold, has become a dangerous rat run and rules are not being enforced properly.

Just Fancy That !

“THIRTEEN years ago, the politically influential Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia – the leading scaremongers about man-made global warming – warned us that within just a few years “children just aren’t going to know what snow is” and that it will be “a very rare and exciting event”. Last week, a foot of this mythical snow stuff closed 3,000 schools, triggered power cuts, shut airports and caused chaos on the roads. As it did last year. And the year before that.”

The Future of Junior School Education in Penyffordd

The amalgamation of Abbotts Lane and Penyffordd Junior schools is up for consultation. Parents of children attending schools mentioned have received a letter about proposals which include having one head teacher and one governing body for the two schools.

The long term aim being to bring both schools under one roof.

Well stops work

Progress on the Post Office cafe construction has had a hick up. A 300 year old well has been found on site.

The well has to be capped.

Capping of holes in Flintshire in the past was a regular operation. There are many hundreds if not thousand of holes that were dug to extract coal. I know of one old lady who played merry hell when coal board contractors turned up to cap the hole that was outside her kitchen window. The lady had been dumping her rubbish down it for years. All she had to do was open the window. The house had been built within feet of the coal shaft.

The Rains

Today Penymynydd Rd drains as per usual are failing to deal with persistent downfalls. I think there is a partial block at Chester Rd / Penymynydd Rd junction or the pipe system inadequate ( most probably the latter).

A Roman Fort just around the corner

I got in trouble last time I said this project was near Penyffordd. Anyway the project moves a step closer. Will we see a Roman Legion marching through the streets of Penyffordd?

Those on Anglesey didn't think too much of them. Although they brought civilisation the Romans did not tolerate opposition.

If you wish to get involved in the project, you can.

Deep Cleaning

In the Leader there is an article on a deep clean operation for Wrexham Bus Station. There is also need for a deep clean outside the Legion on the pathways on Chester Rd one of the main thoroughfares for village folk. Dog muck smeared everywhere, chewing gum, fried rice, etc.

Perhaps put the semi covert cctv back up on the lamp post and catch a few dog owners as well?

Penyffordd Community Council Meeting

Tomorrow night Wednesday at the Institute at 6.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Amongst the items on the agenda is " nefarious activities" in Rhos Rd / Tower Way.

Take your pick from the following :-

ne·far·i·ous
/niˈfe(ə)rēəs/

Adjective
(of an action or activity) Wicked or criminal: "the nefarious activities of the organized-crime syndicates".

Synonyms

Spring is with us

Notes

10 degrees of temperature, birds singing, buds forming on bushes, the large bulb I found discarded at the boot sale sprouting leaves.

Give the scientists a pay rise I'm sure they can find out some more about global warming.

All will be kicked into touch when the cold returns.

I've just picked some red hot peppers off a bush in the greenhouse.

Talking of peppers now is the time to plant seed with bottom heat and some top light.

This years project amongst other is a kitchen garden. No lettuce or herbs to be bought this coming year.

Perhaps David Williams' allotment for the village will finally find take off now he finally has planning consent. It's been a long struggle through the quicksand of procedure, silly people and red tape.

Sign of the Times

One day less fan noise and odor per week. A late Xmas present for moi.

The above is an indication how private business which pays all the taxes for
health, social welfare, etc is struggling.

Spain is currently spending all its pension money keeping the bond market going.
Spain is too big to bail out.
The situation in Greece is dire ( my brother lives there)

The main stream media  will try to talk the situation up during 2013. The actualitee is totally different.

Less demand equals less jobs. Only Airbus is bucking the trend.
Motorcar manufacturers must be having a nightmare.
So too, anyone involved in retail.

Food prices are going up because of flooding.
Energy prices are going up large amounts which again affects everything
including food.

All due to the bankers, the profiteers and our governments.

Is anyone going to jail for the above situation?
I think not.

Penyffordd's Father Christmas finally caught on camera

competing the around the Chester Wall's Race on Boxing Day.

Brian Wareing still a regular jogger and fund raiser seen jogging around Penyffordd even though he is well into  his senior years. The beard his trade mark is real not a fake.

The Round the Walls always something I thought about doing but didn't.
My best time for a marathon 3 hours 23 minutes. Colin Lolly Pop is an ex jogger as well.
Colin's best times significantly better than mine, nearly of athlete standard.

Xmas Notes

A happy Xmas to all those at Hanson Cement. Today the water vapour plume from the chimney pushing into the atmosphere. It irks Cllr Colin Bithell a lot that today Xmas day Hanson will be producing 100's tons of cement whilst one man sits at the controls running the whole show.
It's the one man bit he doesn't like. That of course along with the rest. More on Cllr Bithell and his mates nearer the new year.

If chimney activity at Hanson be the indicator of British Industry we are on an upsurge. Emissions from Hanson have been daily for the last two or three weeks. This sort of activity has not been seen in the last two or three years

Father Xmas seen out for his morning jog. The photo opportunity missed.

Today I am excused visits to relatives ( or they to us ) who are mostly dead or living in a foreign land. A day of good food, a little wine, a time for reflection for the coming year.

This morning's dog walk on Pen Llan y Gwr. ( It's the mountain behind Y Hob.) From which can be seen the Wirral and Mersey Estuary, Liverpool City Centre, Jodrell Bank, Snowdonia. Well judged as this afternoon is a bit damp.

Coming up: Clive shoots himself in the foot.

A happy Xmas to readers

May you get what you wish for. I'm cheating and am currently messing around with my present ( total cost free, bruise on shin was extra). Looking on Ebay with what to fit it out with.

Superfast Fibre Broadband for Penyffordd

Here is the site that supposedly says whats going on

http://www.openreachfibrebroadband.co.uk/where-and-when/

If you put a Penyffordd post code it says the middle of Buckley are currently accepting orders. No plans for Higher Kinnerton and no news about what's happening in Penyffordd.

It is in the village. Various BT Openreach Cabinets have stickers on saying it's installed.

Seems like the standard way of BT doing things. No straight forward way of seeing when various parts of Penyffordd had Superfast Fibre installed or when areas that have not had it installed will be sorted.

Obsfucation reigns supreme.

Still could be worse outlying areas away from Penyffordd and other areas of Flintshire only have dial up !

The Winter Solstice

The shortest day of the year today. From here things get lighter but perhaps colder for sometime.
Today the last day of work for many before Christmas.
Many office parties taking place.
Today I am excused the office party or the trip into Chester at lunchtime for the annual inebriation.
I am just the chauffeur, quite happy to be away from all the fuss.

It's supposed to be the end of the world today. I personally can't see it happening.

The Role of Police

I was communicating with a friend tonight about "Plebgate"

I have a rather naive, innocent view of police. I expect them to uphold the rule of Law, not to tell lies, or to connive with councillors.

This last year or two on a personal level my naivety somewhat rattled. ( CCTV looking at my house, it was taken down as soon as I mentioned it on here, the holding bracket still on the lampost, no one at FCC or cllrs owning up to why it was there even after an FOIE. )
Link http://penyffordd-district.blogspot.co.uk/2009/09/telling-lies.html

The eventual NWP explanation not convincing.

Graeme Archer below tells things better than I ever could.

The police need to get back to basics. Leave politics to politicians.
The police should be honest and not members of masonic lodges or any secret societies.

At the end of the day they police with our ( the plebs) consent.

Lisa's Kitchen Chicken and Potatoes

The chicken wrapped in bacon, the potatoes with camembert cheese and orange sauce
and perhaps a glass of red.....or three.

and pears with dark chocolate to follow

This was sent back to the kitchen as the chocolate doesn't go with the pears.

Chocolate sauce would have been better.

I joke but last week we went to the Croes Howell where one of our party sent something back.
An embarrassment supreme.

I could do a trip adviser of the evening but perhaps it would be unfair.

I could however say the chocolate truffle cake was historic.

Traffic Calming News

There isn't any !

I see further in the Treuddyn News that they have concerns over speeding traffic within the village.

I have asked and I have been told that it is going ahead as planned for Chester Rd.

Council House - Would you like one ?

Further reading through Treuddyn News finds not much of a queue for council bungalows. A £1000 is offered also if you will downgrade from a council house to a bungalow.

Penyffordd?   No idea.

Lorries using the village as a short cut

This is a continuing phenomena. Yesterday I estimate Chester Rd lorry traffic was 30 plus. ( I  had work to do on the car. ) This is extra to new estate building work.

Do Penyffordd Cllrs think lorries should use the village as a short cut?

I've always been of the opinion that Chairman Tom is an honorary member of the local Haulage Association.

Put the daffs in the ground. That's the environment sorted !

This is another area where our long serving members lack any vision for the village.

Penyffordd Institute Grants

Do we ever apply for any?
I read about Treuddyn receiving yet more grants for their village hall in Treuddyn News Issue 261
( I see our news letter appears to be dead and buried )

I read about Llanasa getting £150k last week in The Flintshire Chronicle.

Previously on here there have been commentors on village councils who have active sub committee's whose sole occupation is to seek out public money grants.

Penyffordd at the back of the queue yet again?

Carry on Crashing

Yet another accident beyond Penyffordd train station towards Pontblyddyn. Someone has ran out of road or has been forced to take evasive action. Hedge flattened on the left near cottage that sits on its own.

Cllr Edwina Davies ( Cllr of the month) brought this issue up two meeting ago. Problem is a radical solution is needed to deal with the muppets. Such as compulsory 20 mph zones at multiple accident spots.

It's not going to happen though. It's as the title suggests...

Edwina says " We are behind the times ! "

Well Edwina that's what you get when you leave an 87 year old conservative (small c) control freak in charge of the village. The only problem with the £300 notes is, is it a one off or one of ongoing payments?

By the way it takes 10 mins to set up a Hotmail or Gmail account for Scribe Nigel. Cost free.
30 mins setup for a blog that will suffice for the council's requirements. Cost free.

Perhaps Clive and David can meet down at headquarters at "The Red".

Big issue at giving the Wine Club 50 quid but we'll spray rate payers money around like there's no tomorrow.

Nearly up for murder

There we were at 9 am this morning negotiating Penymynydd roundabout with icy windows, slippy roads and large blind spots courtesy of VW in the Sharan. Lisa suddenly draws my attention to an old man with walking stick and dark clothing in front of us scuttling at a snail pace across the road outside Penyffordd Headquarters.

For it is he Chairman Tom, Penyffordd's greatest living resident.

I had time to slow down but maybe not others rushing to where ever.

Defence would have been futile. " Just read the blog !"

ps. I want to know is our Leader 87 years old yet?

Penyffordd Council Grants 2012

where councillors vote their favourite groups within the village ratepayers money and take revenge on me for having the temerity to occasionally criticise them.

You will notice that there are no comments on the various applications in the minutes. It has all been "resolved" by Chairman Tom.

Penyffordd Wine Circle the only group within the village ever refused with no reason given you invertebrates.

Why aren't the "resolved comments" in the minutes ?

I presume Chairman Tom says they are not needed.

A travesty of process that's for sure.

Wrestling to return to Penyffordd on Friday 18th January 2013

The Penyffordd British Legion did "turn away business" at the last event. So if you were disappointed last time you have another chance.

As Fred Pontin used to say " Book Early !"

I'll leave it to Saxman to fill in the details.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sax Man26 Nov 2012 15:56:00

The wrestling was such a roaring success that Britannia Wrestling Promotions (www.britanniawrestling.co.uk) have been asked to return to Penyffordd Royal British Legion on Friday 18 January 2013.

Last time (October 2012) the show sold out within 20 minutes of the doors opening - we had to turn away around 30-40 people (sorry!) - however this is one of the smaller venues that Britannia Wrestling Promotions run shows at, so only 170 people are permitted entry.

To avoid disappointment next time around, we highly recommend that tickets are purchased in advance at Penyffordd Royal British Legion for just £5 each.

A whole array of British and International Superstars will be returning to Penyffordd for an even BIGGER night of family entertainment.

Head on over to http://www.facebook.com/britanniawrestling for further details (follow the Events links)

If you are in pain perhaps a visit to our healthcare at the Chemist?

Better still the minor issues unit at Emergency at the Maelor.

Anyone recommend a practice?

Message for Nigel

Penyffordd Clerk to the Council

Hi Nigel

With regards the Penyffordd Community Council Grants Meeting held on the 31st Oct 2012. I would like to see a full view of what went on. Which organisations received money, which councillor voted for each organisation and who voted against the Penyffordd Wine Circle.

For example what I ask for above was not what went down in the minutes last year. Cllrs were not recorded as to their voting on individual organisations.

As Clerk you will of course want to portray an accurate view of the meeting I'm sure

You may wish to confer with Tom

Hope your cricket club got a grant lol !

Remembrance Sunday

Lest we forget.

PACA News as told by Cllr Cindy Hinds

Pen-y-ffordd Area Community Association - PACA have put in for funding for a scooter /skate area on the Millstone Playing field. This came about because two boys went to see Mrs Jess Thomas to see how they could go about fulfilling their wishes. Jess, the boys and two of their friends, parents of the boys and Sean Le Tissier, Chair of the Association, and myself went to see Mark Tami, M.P. and Carl Sargeant, A.M. at their surgery. This escalated in the boys getting a petition together and going back to the M.P.'s surgery to present the petition. PACA has now submitted a package to the Welsh Assembly Government for the funding (including the petitions from the boys and letters from both the M.P. and the A.M.). It was so good to see the enthusiasm these youngsters had. Any time now we should know whether we receive the funding or not.

Community Garden - The Community garden is looking better now after help from Bernard (Scout Leader) and Phil Lofthouse and all the residents who have allotments. A little more needs doing and the Association want it completed as soon as possible.

PACA is putting on a Christmas Fayre on the Red Lion Car Park on the 1st December starting at 11.30 am and finishing at 5 pm. All sorts of stalls, Father Christmas, Carol Singing etc. Please come out and support the Association as all the funds they raise are for facilities in the community. Unfortunately our Christmas Eve Carol Singing event will not be possible this year.

Penyffordd Community Council Communication update

Click to enlarge. This is the part of the council agenda for the meeting on Wednesday

Looks like Penyffordd Community Council can drag its feet till 2014 over an email address
Doesn't look like agendas and minutes are going to be published online

We will see.

I see we are going retro with regards communication to the village peasants.

How many councillors follow Cllr Tom Jones' view that residents should be given as little information as possible with it being as difficult as possible to contact the council?

David has died

I know him only as David. He was 52 years of age. David was a town crier. Always smartly dressed. David strode around the village, his attire from a different century.
His death sudden as he was seen on the same day that he passed away.

Snow reaches North Wales

in the Daily Post.

Penyffordd Community Council Meeting

This coming Wednesday. All are welcome to attend but not allowed to speak. ( unless asked to do so).
A council website is on the agenda.

I've already mentioned that one can be set up for free. That agendas and minutes can be put on in about 2 minutes flat if supplied in digital format by Clerk Nigel's typist.

Will the council go the long route? Expensive and slow to add data?

Our man Tom collects a best kept community award

The full story in The Flintshire Chronicle. Cllr Tom Jones is second right to the fragrant Cllr Carolyn Thomas (Treuddyn), second to back row. In the back row  (next to the lift) is former Treuddyn Cllr Idris Jones.
Idris who is in his 80's remembers life in Treuddyn when times were hard. Council meetings were held in Welsh up unto 1989. Idris a lovely man always a story or twenty to tell about Nant y Ffrith.

Penymynydd won a merit award for best kept village ( less than a 1000 residents)
