Somewhere Near

Plas Teg. I've been around it with the Penyffordd Wine Circle.
If you get the chance take a warm coat it's always cold.

The building was used to try people by the travelling judge.
The justice handed out for trivial stuff barbaric.
Still you have to keep the masses under control.

I have a friend who lives in Hawarden. He was on holiday in Switzerland on a ski lift and struck up a conversation with a tall tanned crew cut American who asked him where he was from.
My mate said " Oh you won't know, I live in Hawarden in North Wales.

On the contrary he said, I know it very well. We have dog fights above

A Merry Christmas to All

So ! What to do.

No relatives to visit. I used to get dragged around to relative's houses by the previous model.
Hope she doesn't read here.
A look around our locale shows plenty of visiting going on.

A walk around the woods with the dogs in the rain and a quiet Christmas lunch.
It's the only day in the year I might consider a glass of wine during the day.

--------------------------------------------

Decided to forgo the wine.....
Apparently Millstone Xmas lunch is £65 a go.

Here's Penymynydd Rd's
With Xmas pud to follow.
I'm advised Irish coffee is on the menu when
everything has digested.....

Clockwise, turkey, red cabbage, glazed carrots, roast potato, sprouts and sweet chestnuts, parsnips in maple syrup.

The sprouts go down well with plenty of cranberry jelly.

A Resident Writes...............

SIR – You report (December 11) that Barclays bank has avoided any reference to the word “Christmas” in its holiday opening hours.

I have worked in the Middle East for the last 13 years, mainly in Oman. I also have a rather obvious and large white beard. When I am there in December I am eternally asked by Muslims what I am going to bring them for Christmas. The stores all have Father Christmas figures and decorated Christmas trees.

Muslim children are looking forward to their presents. Jesus Christ is their second most respected prophet (after Mohammed) and Mary, along with Jesus, features in the Koran.

Given that the Muslims celebrate Christmas in the Middle East, what right has Barclays to deprive the Muslim population here?

Penyffordd Banking

There's some new words in town they're called "Bail In's".
Posh words for banks stealing your money.
Not much change there..................

postscript: RBS are being investigated over hiding 4500 dormant accounts from customer.

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-11/bail-ins-%E2%80%9Cundermine-confidence%E2%80%9D-banks-lead-suicide-pensioner

In future when your bank goes bust ie. Northern Rock or gets in a position such as the Bank of Scotland, you as a depositor will be required to give up your hard earned cash to keep the bank or building society afloat.

The above is just talk at the moment but don't be surprised when it becomes law.
( I wrote this before reading above link)

There's also talk of NIRP's

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-06-05/nirp-has-arrived-europe-officially-enters-monetary-twilight-zone

The basic idea that the banks and building society's will charge you to keep money in the bank as opposed to paying you interest on your deposits.

Won't bother me much as I haven't got much ready cash.

Might be a bit of a problem if you've got hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Even tens of thousands.
They also won't let you withdraw large amounts in readies.

Between a rock and a hard place?

More Money for Welsh NHS

Will this mean less queuing for hospital beds, queuing in A&E, waiting an hour in the doctor's surgery?

My unqualified answer would be no.

How about charging everyone a fiver for A&E and a doctor's visit?

Free prescription charges should go too.

Fighting Talk From Behind The Sofa

Postscript: The view by a Conservative MP

further

The Prime Minister's fighting talk in the Sunday Times was not needed.
Some people some where in this country will be in the wrong place at the wrong time shortly.
It won't be the PM..........

A few months ago Parliament stopped Cameron bombing Syrian troops. He's having to make do with terrorists that we trained to destabilize Syria in the first place. Funny old world!

All those MP's who voted for bombing which will kill innocent people as well, should be shipped out to the front line at Raqqa.

Fancy a ride in a helicopter? ( no bad stuff ) Real lives, real bullets, real rockets, no game.
Any follow on videos may not be pretty.

Energy Blues and a rant

So let me get this straight.

We are closing all our coal fired electricity generating stations due to the global warming scam.
We have lots of coal under UK.
China have opened 400 new ones!
And we are closing all our steel making facilities

We are relying on President Putin for our gas fired electricity generating stations.
I think as of today Russia was turning off the gas tap to Ukraine because they haven't paid the gas bill.

We are closing down Wylfa Nuclear on Anglesey. The new one won't be on stream for 10 years.
http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/angleseys-wylfa-nuclear-plant-shutdown-10535403

The National Grid are talking about not having enough electricity in the system this winter, cue black outs.

We have our D - heads in Parliament arguing the to*ss over illegally bombing Syria killing innocent people.
Syria has not asked for our help. Assad got more votes in Syria than Cameron at the last elections here.
I see Syria, Iraq and Libya have all asked for Russian help

You do wonder whether we should be paying them ( our MP's) in peanuts.

I see Mark Tami our MP is not moved by our Prime Minister's arguments, good for him.
The 75000 soldiers on the ground fighting Assad and Isi*l some sort of myth in my opinion.

Moel Famau

How it was supposed to be.

The Tower was built to commemorate the Jubilee of King George III. The foundation stone was laid by Lord Kenyon in 1810. The Tower however was never finished.

On November 1st 1862 the part construction was blown down in a gale. The people of Flintshire and Denbighshire  had donated £6000 for its construction.

The Tower stands nearly 2000 feet above sea level and can be
seen from over 100's of square miles.
You know you are nearly home when you see the bump in the distance.

I think a project worthy of being finished. This has been talked about in local media

World News - Jeremy has it right

It is a strange world. I agree with Jeremy Corbyn MP and Dennis Skinner MP.
They do not want us interfering in Syria.

A few years ago David Cameron tried to bomb Syria, Parliament stopped him.

We've been training terrorists for the last 5 years trying to de-stable Syria
Now he wants to bomb Syria's so called enemy who we've been training.

We always have plenty of money for war

I'm sure President Putin can find the UK something to do.
Perhaps we can make the tea.

Fact: Russia controls Syria air space with rockets, aircraft and jamming equipment.
Syria invited Russia into Syria, we're not invited.

Penyffordd Health - Vitamins

I see the new health centre in Hope is coming on leaps and bounds. My last doctor's surgery visit was a 90 minute wait for a 5 minute consultation. I'm looking to join Hope if conditions are better. That's if they are allowing new signings.

Vitamins and supplements, doctors hate them. Perhaps I should say they in general disregard them. They are after all agents for the pharmaceutical industry.

I take all the usual plus Vit D, lugol's solution (iodine), curcumin plus peperine, ginger, selenium, coconut oil, DHEA, whey powder and magnesium chloride.

I take probiotics.

I'm looking to take MSM, licorice, magnesium bicarbonate.

I take all this stuff as I am over 60 and things start to slow down in the body

I took Vit D all last winter, my blood levels showed mid range all through. By February most people's Vit D are low unless you have had a foreign holiday.

Calcium carbonate which doctors hand out like sweeties to us old uns are to be treated with extreme caution.

Speed Watch

Community SpeedWatch Volunteers recruiting opportunities

Dear Watch Member,

North Wales Police are looking for local
volunteers to help deter speeding motorists across the region. Please see attached documents

The initiative is a partnership approach between the community, the police and the local authorities which is already running successfully in other police force areas.

“Community Speed Watch gives local people the ability to actively get involved in road safety. It can be set up in any village, small town, or urban area, governed by either a 20, 30 or 40 miles per hour speed limit,” said Sergeant John Roberts from GoSafe, the Wales Road Casualty Reduction Partnership.

“Motorists who speed through residential neighbourhoods are very often unaware of the impact their actions have on local residents, or the danger they pose to other road users and pedestrians and this is something we are working with communities to address.”

Full training will be given and volunteers on the scheme will visit known speeding hotspots within their own communities and will use hand-held speed guns to capture the speeds of oncoming vehicles. Details of those vehicles will be collated and relayed back to North Wales Police, who then issue a letter to the owners warning them that they have been spotted.

North Wales Police are now recruiting volunteers for the role of ‘Community Speed Watch Operator’. If you would like to help reduce speeding in your area and feel that you would be interested in this role please visit the North Wales Police Website http://www.north-wales.police.uk/ and follow the link on the recruitment pagehttp://www.north-wales.police.uk/recruitment/volunteers/current-vacancies/community-speed-watch-operator.aspx

Where's the kids?

Or perhaps where is hubby?

Do modern parents want to know where their children are?
This is a tracker on my mobile phone. It costs about £1.80. I'd taken a parcel around to the Spar.
You can see me staggering around the block. It was only 3pm .............
The zig zagging is me at The Spar, I couldn't find the door!

I've got another one called Followmee it only senses every 10 mins but it has such refinements as a geofence which would tell you when said child/hubby had gone out of his/her permitted zones.

So you too as well as GCHQ will know what's happening.

Penymynydd Rd will be closed

outside the Institute tonight for the bonfire.

The Bonfire

Bonfire night is one of two times a year when many people of the village get together. It has just been pouring down, the bonfire however needs constructing. The best way of doing it is over a few days but you can't do that because some joker might set it on fire before the big night.

So its before 9 in the morning, wet slippy wood everywhere. Residents have been bringing their contributions for the bonfire for the last fortnight. Someone's brought a settee, plenty of leylandii and cypress from near the butcher's shop.  It's been a children's play ground for half term. I wonder about all those nails sticking out of the wood.

Volunteers spend a lot of the day constructing.
Volunteers are also in the Institute kitchen as I write preparing for tonight.

I'm not sure how much money it makes because there are big expenses.

I usually watch the fireworks from the bedroom. I sit the dog on the window sill, he's not bothered by the fireworks as many animals are. When the bangs start there is always an "exit stage left" for parents with screaming frightened children.

Bonfire night a strange celebration. If my history serves me without looking at google we are celebrating the burning of a catholic at the stake for attempting to blow up parliament.

Pretty horrible we were in those days.
I wonder how catholics feel about bonfire night? Is the tradition kept up by protestants to remind catholics of their place?

Down south they've started the tradition of burning politicians. They construct a giant effigy, this year its our prime minister David Cameron with his pig's head.

Perhaps someone can spare a space tonight on their bonfire for our dick head minister who is pushing for our RAF to fly into Syrian airspace currently controlled by Russia. Is he trying to start world War III?

Those who never learn from mistakes are bound to repeat them.

Tomorrow Remembrance Sunday..........

The A5118 is closed in both directions due to an accident involving three vehicles between Padeswood Road South (Padeswood) and Bannel Lane (Penymynydd). Police are directing traffic with emergency services on the scene near the cement works.

Bad Driving II

I see the M56 was closed yesterday afternoon for 12 hours and the trains stopped. 4 car pile up A55  at Conway. Cyclist knocked off his bike in Wrexham.

I suppose its all due to volume and a legion of  idiots.

Which leads me onto........

Speed restrictions are going to happen on the Penyffordd Bypass. Not sure if the restriction includes the bypass but we are talking south of the village.

Cllr Stan Davies has mentioned the speeding on this section of road some years ago.
I find walking on the path next to this section of road un-nerving. 60 mph traffic within 3 feet of the path unacceptable. Some do 80 mph.......

Flintshire County Council advisory notices are on lamp posts.

ps.  Councillors there is speeding over the speed humps on Chester Rd. If you don't believe me get FCC to put down speed recording equipment.

Time for full time 20 mph zones in the village for the idiots.

Anti Social behaviour by youths tonight

Comment put on blog tonight.

"I see the village idiots have been at it again in the park. They are antisocial enough with their daily shouting, drinking, playing loud music etc to all hours at night. Tonight the clowns reached new levels with a very loud firework and creating a large fire in the allotment area. The fire engine has just been down to put it out. How long do we have to out up with these asbo youths?"

One presumes our councillors will get on the case.

Perhaps a few of them need a good tasering...............(edit) that's anti socials not cllrs...

and a month in jail.

Or perhaps a few days in the village stocks by the Millenium clock.
Eggs and tomatoes supplied.

Up S Creek Further

Public transport companies who service Penyffordd community have been looking to make efficiency's including stopping buses to our health centre in Buckley.

There also appears to be trouble with school children getting Castell Alun our main secondary school.
Cllr Cindy Hinds reports there are serious issues with the bus company that takes our children to the Hope school. Flintshire County Council are getting involved.

Perhaps by now it is all sorted.

Penyffordd Local Development Plan

We've got off very lightly you should see Buckley's

So ! We have the candidate suggestions in, to shape the future development of Penyfffordd district. There are tens of millions of pounds swilling around in the barrel.

http://www.flintshire.gov.uk/en/PDFFiles/Planning/settlement-PDFs/Penyffordd--Penymynydd-settlement.pdf

Who is doing the suggesting?  You have to go to county hall to find out.

It can't be emailed or put on the Flintshire County Council website.

Why?

Perhaps we need to follow the money.
Who is Mr Big? Making all these suggestions.

Why aren't our councillors explaining things properly?
Ah! they will say "If you had attended so and so meeting and looked at this spread sheet and that spread sheet you would know what's happening."

All this could be explained on the council £600 website (and counting)

But its not. I feel it's Penyffordd Community Council's job to communicate before it's too late.
Pen041 an example of why they can't be trusted.

Some of you are having a skate park, Spar type shops, etc next to your houses.
Some of you won't be able to see Hope mountain after they're finished.
Have you looked at the above document properly?

I've been going on about the bulldozing of houses (Pen041) and the knocking down of The Spar (Pen035)  our only village shop. I've not looked at the rest properly. It's been better explained to me by Flintshire planners. A job our councillors are not doing. It's not a question of waiting until someone asks a question. It should be about communicating the possible options that are going to happen.

Penyffordd Institute

Cllr Cindy Hinds in her recent newsletter mentions a possible upgrade to the Institute which is showing its age. An architect has been appointed. Mark Tami MP and Carl Sargeant AM have been contacted

This is good news.

I think the Institute Committee should improve their communications to be inline with 21st century practice. A contact email on their notice board, one on the Penyffordd Community Council board and website.

It's current profile similar to Penyffordd mason's lol

It's easier to contact President Putin of Russia than book the Institute for a do.

Street lights are to be switched off

Flintshire County Council are looking for many ways to save money. One of the ways forward is to turn off certain street lights. Dangerous roads, junctions and pensioner complexes will not be affected. Cindy is opposed to this measure being taken.

Call Me Councillor II

Just had a conversation with Lisa that spurred thoughts on how up to recently new community cllrs were chosen. Say we have 10 community cllrs. I'd check but its not written down anywhere easy.
A bit like the Masons.

There is a political divide within the village. Recently it was 9 - 1.

Nine Independent ( some old Conservatives ) and one Labour

The nine Independents all go to the electorate on one sheet. So all electoral costs are vastly reduced.
I've tried twice to be a community cllr and failed twice, personal costs are well over £200 an election plus a walk around every house in the district delivering leaflets. The £200 is non return it's a cost full stop.

The village voted in a sick man who shouldn't have stood. He beat me, no hard feelings, residents did me a favour. It's better being outside the tent rather than inside the tent.

quote: http://izquotes.com/quote/241192  (adult content)

I didn't ask Tom whether I could go on his sheet.................We had a temporary difference of opinion about speeding traffic on Chester Rd. It lasted 7 years.

Also you don't get paid or have any expenses as a community cllr. In fact it costs you in money and time. Such is the sacrifice for you're fellow residents which is not generally appreciated.

The old way of doing things was for the political head of the village to invite you to stand. This is after he's decided whether you have the right qualities to join his gang. We won't go any further on that one................

The main objective to keep Labour out of everything. The only problem being Labour run Wales and Flintshire County Council.

So that may be part of the reason why the village has under developed public facilities.

Why PACA was formed to develop village amenities.
Why Red Lion patrons got involved.

Cllr Tom Jones is political leader. His knowledge of procedure and local politics great.
Tom's reign is theoretically coming to a close. He's about 88 years old.
The village got fed up with him as a school governor.

I think he should be given an advisory role due to his knowledge.

So from the 9 -1 we go into the 2016 (edit please read comments its altered to 2017) local elections with may be more than one Independent standing down, maybe 3 or 4.
We have a new Labour community cllr so that makes two. A Plaid Cymru cllr has recently come out of the closet. ( perhaps I didn't read 2012 election literature properly)
Red Lion patrons will perhaps wish to make gains

I see Labour trying to make more gains. Cllr Tom Jones' power base collapsing.

This is my opinion. If I talk "pants" please say so in comments with qualification.

postscript. The 2016 local elections will have as a backdrop diminishing local money. We have a UK government that owe £1.5 trillion. (we'll forget the 100's of trillions of derivative exposure by the "investment companies") UK Government are telling England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland they will be getting a lot less money to spend. Welsh Assembly will be giving counties less money. Flintshire County Council will be giving town and village councils less money. There is currently a program of asset transfer from county to community ( read community paying for stuff instead of county council but  you're rates will still rise). So not much room for facility improvement except if we have another 1000 houses......

Penyffordd Health News

One of our surgeries is having difficulty seeing patients

http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/patients-buckley-face-month-long-10184209

Two causes here I think.

Allowing our investment banks to bet the country to make vast profits with no come back to themselves
( Financial Crash 2008)

The Idiot EU allowing free access to any EU resident through out the EU.

Free housing, Free money, Free education, Free health care paid by you and me
is rather attractive to those from other countries less well off.

The current emigrant crisis a good example started by the good US of A. is an added extra.

World News

Whilst I await the Autumn gloom to lift many 1000's if not 100,000's fear for their lives in the ME.

We are currently backing murderers and torturers.

On being short

I've always been short. Was starting to worry at start of secondary school because I was 4ft 6 ins.

I'm 5ft 6 ins now.

Being short has many implications for those of us less enlightened.

Anyway the truth is out.

Up S Creek

That's residents without wheels wanting to go to the doctors. Also from July council meeting.
Arriva (want /are going to) withdraw certain bus services

------------------------------------------------
77. Transport – Bus Routes Both Cllr Walker and the Clerk have written to Arriva Cymru regarding No.3 Bus Service, to date no response has been received. Cllr Walker again raised his concern regarding the Sunday bus service. The first direct bus route on a Sunday into Penyffordd is 8pm from Mold and 9pm from Chester. With regard to residents attending the Medical Centre, the Council discussed WBCT (Welsh Boarder Community Transport) and the fact that they extremely busy. The Council requested the Clerk to contact WBCT to clarify the eligibility criteria and display this information for residents. IT WAS RESOLVED the Clerk will liaise with WBCT for the eligibility criteria and advertise this service on the website and post office.

Open Council Meetings

79. Open Meeting/Public Questions Cllr Williams brought to the table the option of having either an Open Meeting or Public Questions. The Council discussed a number of various options. IT WAS RESOLVED the Council will consider these options and this item will be included on September’s Agenda.
----------------------------------------------

The above was in the July minutes. This indeed a good idea. Perhaps David, the council could go one step further and video meeting live and recorded on the council website. Instead of attending a two hour omnibus, one could sit in the comfort of one's own home sipping a glass of red. One could even fast forward to the more interesting bits.

A first for a Flintshire town or village council!

I should mention that currently anyone can attend a council meeting unless they are having a secret session. You are not allowed to speak or interrupt unless asked.

Penyffordd Councillor Mad Concepts

I was going to mention Penyffordd Council's final comments on Local Development Plan Pen041.
However the Penyffordd Community website is down.
Perhaps the silly background fir trees are being removed.....
I'll take a look later.

postscript

Its back up, fir trees are still there........................

This is the council's view (unratified I think) on Pen041
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
78. Single Site School
Following a meeting between Andy Roberts FCC with Cllrs Hinds and Williams it was established that Candidate Site PEN041 was actually incorrect and should not have 26 been put forward.

The Council discussed this error and identified it was a mistake by the Community Council in supporting PEN041.
The Council have now officially withdrawn their support. The Council still feel very strongly on a single site school and are in the process of arranging a mutually convenient date for a meeting between Ian Budd, Colin Everett, Andrew Farrow, Head Teacher and School Governor.

IT WAS RESOLVED i. The Council have no ambitions on any land in the village to do with the Millstone, no ambitions to take over the Caravan Park, no ambitions in putting a single site school on the allotments or any other properties within the PEN041 boundary line. ii. The date of the meeting regarding Single Site School was agreed to be either 2 nd or 9th September or if needed the Council will hold a Special Meeting.

Cllr Williams will confirm the date to the Council as soon as confirmation is received.

Penyffordd Crime Data

Minuted in the July meeting 2015 of Penyffordd Community Council.

81. Police Report As PCSO Mat Gordon was unable to attend the meeting he provided the following report to the Clerk.

20/6/2015 – ASB – verbal abuse given to a man after leaving the PYF carnival, turned out to be a long standing dispute. It is being dealt with.

21/06/2015 – ASB – Youths have thrown items at a window on Corwen Road.

27/06/2015 – Fire – Youths/Kids have been setting small fires in the grass near Emmanuel Church. Arson reduction team have been made aware and we are working toward an action plan, as there have been 3 similar incidents this month.

27/06/2015 – ASB – Park near Millstone, two younger children have been threatened by older children on the park.

27/06/2015 – ASB – Similar to above, kids using aerosol cans and lighters to set paper alight in the park.

06/07/2015 – ASB – Group of youths drinking alcohol near Towers Way.
08/07/2015 – Bike stolen from a shed on Hazel Drive

13/07/2015 – As you will be aware, 3 reports of damage to sheds on the allotments. Drug Paraphernalia has also been found near the benches which were moved in the area – I have spoken with youths from the youth club and they are adamant that this is older youths who do not attend the club. I have added the info to our officer briefing sheet which is viewed every shift by every officer prior to going out. Hopefully this will get a few more to pop in and have a look, but with staffing levels very low at present this may not be too likely as we’re all being pulled from pillar to post at the moment. As you can see there has been a rise in the ASB in the area, specifically in the area of the park. I’m going to speak to the inspector once I return from annual leave and will see if we can have a curfew put on the area. We do normally have a rise at this time of year due to schools finishing.

Royal Nostalgia

Leanne Uttley, of Penyffordd, a pupil at Castell Alun School in Hope, was there for her ‘once in a lifetime chance’ to see the Queen.

Read further.

Congratulations to New School Governor Steve Vaughan

I understand Steve has been made a school governor. Well done Steve.
You're not standing for Council next year are you? :)

I also understand Steve is in charge of Health and Safety.

If this is true Steve has the wind somewhat against him.

In my opinion councillors are not happy with the school governors
Penyffordd Councillors as a group are laissez faire over village safety with regards traffic.
Some local hostelry patrons also can't see why they can't hammer up or down Chester Rd.
Never mind the kids they'll jump out the way.

A previous councillor who was a school governor fought me for years ( seven) over traffic calming. Wouldn't look at the FCC speed figures for Chester Rd a major route to school. Or didn't want to.
Tried to get the county council lawyers on to me.

My opinion is that traffic calming should be made more vigorous. This morning I saw overtaking on the big speed bumps between 8.30 and 9.00am. (school time) Traffic regularly does 40 mph over the bumps.
Traffic needs stopping at the first bump, its just a matter of increasing bump profile

A tough call Steve, I see no help from Penyfforrd Cllrs at all.

Penyffordd Spar doing their bit

The group, which was team-led by store manager Guy Coleman from Spar Penyffordd, was split into three teams: one team dismantled disused riding centre equipment, one cleared a picnic area for visitors to the centre and the other installed a fence to keep the horses in.
